Chapter 879: Chapter 879: Dream of an Immortal_1
Jiang Ning’s calligraphy was not good, even a little ugly.
Of course, this was because she didn’t like writing with a brush, and she was too lazy to practice diligently.
People around her knew that she was not good at calligraphy, or the arts of lute-playing, chess, calligraphy, and painting that a young lady of noble birth should master.
But no one criticized or reprimanded her for this.
Because she had a valid excuse.
Who could force a person who had been abandoned at the age of three and grew up in poverty?
For these reasons, the two elder members of the Jiang family were full of guilt towards Jiang Ning. They absolutely forbade anyone to mention her lack of manners, her lack of elegance, her lack of skills in lute-playing, chess, calligraphy, and painting or bad handwriting.
Initially, Jiang Ruobai attempted to make up for years of guilt. Despite Lin Zizi’s objections, he was determined to send his lame, unelegant, and untalented daughter, who was ignorant of poetry and literature, into the palace to become the most honourable woman in the world.
And he was almost successful.
Now, as he held the booklet and looked at the somewhat ugly handwriting, he couldn’t help but chuckle, “Xiachu is good at calligraphy. If you need anything written, just ask her.”
Jiang Ning replied, “This isn’t about you disliking my penmanship right now. Look at the content instead.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ruobai calmed down and carefully read a few lines. He then looked at his daughter with astonishment and asked, “This is somewhat interesting. Did you write this?”
“I transcribed it.”
“Really, you transcribed it from a book? How come I’ve never seen this content before?” Jiang Ruobai said. He kept his eyes pinned to the words written in the booklet, growing more astonished the more he read.
Although he was a literary official, he had studied military strategies at the Spring Autumn Academy in his youth, he and his brother could be considered as proficient in both military and literary affairs.
He was confident that he had thoroughly read military texts, so how could he not be astonished to have never seen this one in his hands?
Since Jiang Ning had brought out this book, she must have prepared her excuse in advance.
She replied calmly, “Even the Imperial Academy might not have this book. A few days ago, I dreamt of an old man reciting from a book. When I woke up, I remembered what he said clearly and transcribed it according to my memory. I don’t really understand it, but I studied it as best as I could and realized it seems to be a military book. Uncle is about to go to war with Rouran, so I’m giving this book to him. Maybe it will come in handy? Regardless, it’s from the bottom of my heart as his niece.”
Jiang Ruobai was stunned as he listened.
A dream?
An old man with a white beard?
While stories of sudden enlightenment in dreams have been circulating amongst the people, it was still incredible when it happened to someone close to him.
But the military book in front of him, written in black and white, couldn’t be faked.
With Jiang Ruobai’s insight, he could tell it was a valuable military book even by just reading a few lines.
Could it be that there was such a magical thing as a celestial messenger giving a dream? And it happened to his own daughter?
If this was true, then his daughter was indeed a girl chosen by fate.
Jiang Ruobai laughed, “After we return, I will give this book to your Uncle. Let him look at it when he has time. Even if it is a little useful, it would be your contribution.”
Jiang Ning laughed, “Uncle cherishes me, so I naturally want to give back. Right, father, how is Gucheng after he returned home?”
Jiang Ruobai laughed, “You already have Gufeng, and you are still thinking about Gucheng? Don’t be too greedy.”
What do you think?
