Chapter 224 Harmoniously Eating
Sword lights flashed, beasts roared, trees fell, and the occasional bush was set on fire before being put out by the fierce night wind… but it had nothing to do with Lucian. His indifferent eyes remained locked on the four skewers.
[Host, are you confident the plan will work?] The worried voice of the System rang in Lucian's mind.
[Of course, why wouldn't it?] Lucian acted as if he was genuinely surprised.
The System sighed.
[What if they choose to attack you before they eat the roasted rabbit?]
Lucian was silent for a moment.
[They won't attack me. I've shown just enough for them to be wary of me, but not enough to scare them away.]
Soon, the chaotic sounds of fighting ceased, signaling one side had won.
Accompanying the squelching of liquid being pressed into the grass, two figures walked out of the forest.
Lucian looked at the victors and had no change in his expression. They were none other than Lucius and Luke.
'It's good that there was only one Grade 2 Magical Beast, while the rest were just animals.'
After glancing at the bloody footprints left by their steps, Lucian turned his attention to the skewers.
If they had died, Lucian's plan would have been foiled. Only while they remained alive would they be useful to him.
"It smells great, way better than elder brother's food," Luke exclaimed, and swallowed his saliva.
Even Lucius stared fixedly at the roasted rabbit meat and the aromatic oils releasing from its body.
He had not lied when he said they had barely eaten in the last few days. It was not that they could not find game to cook, rather they had been too worried about their father's dwindling life.
But now, they had a method to save their father and delicious food to feast on.
'Our lives finely took a turn for the better.'
"Alchemist Drake, is the roasted rabbit ready?" Luke asked as he took a seat next to the campfire.
Lucian nodded and took two skewers off the tripod and handed them to Lucius and Luke.
They took the skewers with expressions of pure anticipation, eyes wide, and their mouths watering. But instead of digging in right away, Lucius glanced at his brother out of the corner of his eye, signaling him not to eat it.
Though Luke did not want to wait, he knew the plan was far more important than satiating his stomach.
Lucius tilted his head and asked curiously, "Are Alchemist Drake and Sir Pei not eating?"
Hearing this, Pei Buhan glared at him and without a second thought, snatched a skewer from the tripod. "Of course, I'm eating. I've been waiting all this while for this brat's roasted rabbit."@@novelbin@@
Lucian indifferently watched as Pei Buhan tore into the roast meat. Only then, he reached for his own skewer and turned it slowly as he inspected the golden, crispy skin.
"It's roasted to perfection." Then, as if Lucian was oblivious to the two pairs of eyes staring at him, he took a bite of the roasted meat.
Meanwhile, after seeing both Pei Buhan and even Lucian eat the roasted meat without hesitation, Lucius gave the go-ahead signal to his brother, who, without wasting a second longer, opened his mouth and sunk his teeth into the meat.
Rich, meaty flavors exploded in his mouth, with hints of smoke only slow, patient roasting over fire could provide.
As he chewed, a pleasant groan unconsciously left his lips.
Shaking his head at his brother's antics, Lucius slightly parted his lips, letting his teeth sink into the crispy skin and the smokey flavor of the rabbit.
"How can rabbit meat taste this delicious?" Lucius said in between chewing.
Luke nodded in agreement, his mouth too full to speak, but the smile on his face said everything.
Even Pei Buhan had momentarily forgotten his vigilance against the brothers.
Lucian, on the other hand, calmly ate. The food was good… no, it was excellent, but only for those who had not tasted dishes created by Alchemy Chefs.
Nevertheless, Lucian did not travel to the abandoned Yanming Mines to cook and have fun.
He ate and watched as the three took continuous bites of the roast meat without even stopping to take a breath of air.
Even someone as normally indifferent to most things as Lucian, could not prevent the corner of his mouth from twitching.
Each rabbit weighed approximately two pounds, yet before long, Luke had already finished devouring more than half of the meat. His hands and face were smeared with oil stains, but he continued to tear into the meat like a starved man.
Lucius had devoured his way to the midpoint of the rabbit, while the old man was quite picky; he only chose to eat the rabbit's tenderloin.
But, it was more than enough, as a sudden change occurred to Lucius, Luke, and Pei Buhan.
Fragrant pink mist rose from their pores and swirled around their bodies.
The sudden phenomenon happened so fast that by the time Lucius saw the pink mist curl up his skin, he could only stammer, "Wh-what's happening? What is this pink mist? And why the Hell do I feel a sudden urge to-" He stopped mid-sentence, embarrassed and ashamed to continue those words.
"Brat, why isn't the pink mist rising from your body?" Pei Buhan, who was startled by Lucius' shout, demanded.
Lucian shrugged and continued to eat. In between bites, he replied, "Who knows? I'm also eating, aren't I?"
He then turned to Luke, who was completely oblivious to the pink mist around him. "Damn, have the Ember Lion Pride fallen so low they can't even have a proper meal? " Lucian pointed at Luke with his skewer and continued, "Look at him. He doesn't even know he's about to become my servant."
Upon hearing his words, Lucius and Pei Buhan's expressions changed. The color on their faces was completely drained.
"Y-you… you know who we are?" Lucius had always believed the naive and friendly Alchemist Drake did not know their real identity.
What do you think?
