Chapter 235 Spirit Waterfall
Lucius nodded and unconsciously turned to their father for an explanation.
"Father?"
"The forest around us is no ordinary forest. It's an illusion created by the Spirit Waterfall. When the Spirit Water pours down and hits the rocks below, the impact creates a dense mist, which is then carried by the wind to the surrounding area. Moreover, it's because of the Spirit Waterfall that the Ever-Changing Phantom Slimes made their home here."
Realization dawned upon Pei Buhan. He now understood why Bai Shishi told him to enter the forest.
"That means we can enter the forest as if it doesn't even exist."
Bai Shishi nodded.
"That's right. Just like the coin I threw, which phased through the tree, we can do the same."
Without needing any more guidance, Pei Buhan pulled the reins, steering the horse toward the densely populated trees. Moments later, as the horse reached the treeline, it neighed as it dug its hoofs into the ground, stopping the carriage in its tracks.
"Keep going." Even though Pei Buhan said that, he understood the horse could not understand him.
With no other choice, he grabbed the reins with one hand and patted the horse. "Sorry buddy, I'll make this up to you." He then took out a whip and gave the horse a light whip on its butt.
The horse grunted in pain and gave Pei Buhan a grudge-filled gaze, as if silently vowing it would take revenge. But, reluctantly, it obeyed and lifted its hoof toward the tree once more.
Surprisingly, as its hoof touched the tree, it phased through. There was none of the resistance it had expected or even a sound.
Pei Buhan chuckled as he looked at his old friend's stunned expression. Its eyes were wide, and its hoof remained in mid-air.
"There, see? If you had been watching when Bai Shishi threw the coin, you wouldn't be looking like a fool right now. Now, keep going." Pei Buhan snorted. "You threw away your owner's dignity."
The horse looked at him with narrowed eyes. It could not understand what its owner had said, but after many years together, it grew to understand when it was being ridiculed. Experience more content on My Virtual Library Empire
After letting out a breath of air through its nose, the horse stepped through the tree, pulling the carriage with it, into the fake forest.
For many minutes, the carriage continued to phase through many trees created by the Spirit Water, but they still did not see even a hint of the Spirit Waterfall. But that did not mean they lost hope, as further into the forest they traveled, the sound of the Spirit Water falling and hitting solid ground, grew louder.
Sometime later, a sparkle of light appeared, followed by a beautiful grassy clearing.
The illusion was left behind, but everyone except for Bai Shishi was stunned by the sight in front of them.
A tall, jagged mountain reached high into the sky.
From a jagged cliffside, milky-white liquid poured down. As it hit the river and rocks below, the impact scattered thousands of droplets into the air.
Carried by the wind, the mist scattered out.
"There it is." Bai Shishi nodded with an excited expression. "Finally, the Spirit Waterfall. Remember, we only need one Ever-Changing Phantom Slime for Mistress Lily."
Hearing his words, Pei Buhan and the brothers were broken from their daze. They looked around for the white slimes described by Bai Shishi, but even after many moments, they did not even catch a glimpse of their blob-like appearance.
Pei Buhan scratched his balding head.
"Where are the Ever-Changing Phantom Slimes?"@@novelbin@@
"They might have moved elsewhere." Lucius frowned.
"How about I threaten them?" Luke suggested cruelly. Licking his lips, he continued, "I bet they'll show themselves if I threaten to destroy this place."
Bai Shishi frowned at Luke's suggestion. "Stop." He shut his son's mouth with his hand.
Luke struggled, but after receiving a glare from his father, he calmed down.
"After all the noise we've created, they must have already heard and seen our arrival. Even though they're Magical Beasts, they're not bloodthirsty. Moreover, they only have one Skill — Thousand Faces. They don't even have an Element. As weak creatures, in the face of intruders, they can only hide and pray they don't get discovered." Bai Shishi explained.
Pei Buhan frowned.
"Then how do we find them?"
"Use your Mana Senses. As long as your Mage Rank is higher, their Thousand-faces Skill won't work." After saying this, Bai Shishi activated his Mana Sense.
The others followed suit, activating their Mana Sense, too.
It did not take long before Luke excitedly yelled as he pointed in a certain direction, "I found it!"
Hearing his excited shout, the group turned to where he pointed. There, hiding behind two rocks, they saw a small white blob with no discernable features. It did not have eyes, hair, ears, nose, arms, or legs. It was simply a white ball of goo.
The slime, on the other hand, shivered in fright as it felt the senses of the four intruders on it. It wanted to run, but it knew that it could not outrun them.
Knowing the inevitable, sadness filled its body.
Meanwhile, Bai Shishi and the others slowly approached it.
"Be careful." He warned. "The Ever-Changing Phantom Slimes aren't strong but it could escape if we don't keep an eye on it."
"Father, can I just grab it?" Luke suggested. "It's so small that it can fit in my hand."
Hearing his idiot son's words, Bai Shishi's expression darkened.
"Luke, if you dare touch it or harm it, even before Master chops your head off, I'll do it myself."
Luke shivered. He wanted to argue that even if he harmed it, there were more Ever-Changing Phantom Slimes around, but decided against it. He knew how cruel his father was. He was a man who would not spare even his children.
Satisfied by his silence, Bai Shishi ordered, "You three stay here. I'll capture the Ever-Changing Phantom Slime for Mistress Lily."
What do you think?
