Chapter 55: Chapter 56 Please Leave Here Immediately
“That’s right, abusing their status to oppress the common people.”
“Everyone’s waiting to see the doctor, so why should she be allowed to jump the queue!” @@novelbin@@
“Heh, can’t help it, who lets them have an imperial command? Ordinary folks like us dare not provoke them.” Shao He’s tone was rather helpless, but her words were clearly fanning the flames, guiding public opinion, pressuring Old Madam Chu.
Fearing the incident would tarnish the reputation of Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, Old Madam Chu reluctantly got up and went to the back of the line.
There were many patients that day, and it wasn’t until almost noon that it was Old Madam Chu’s turn. She sat down and went straight to the point, “Where’s my grandson?”
“Mass Burial Mound.” Shao He’s response was simple and clear.
“You’re talking nonsense!” Old Madam Chu glared at her angrily.
“Whether it’s nonsense or not, the Old Madam can just ask the Marquis, why waste your breath here with me?” Shao He said with a cold laugh.
The Old Madam’s chest heaved with suppressed rage. Just as she was about to slam the table in anger, Shao He said calmly, “I would advise the Old Madam to think thrice before acting. If you happen to run into Master Yan, it might be tough to explain yourself.”
After hearing this, the Old Madam pressed down her raging fury and forced a stiff smile, trying to reason with her, “Your current situation is not good, and having the child with you is all harm and no benefit. Why not let me take the child back to raise? You can see him whenever you want.”
“No need.” Shao He’s rejection was cold; no one would take her child away from her.
“How can you bear to watch such a small child suffer with you? If you are willing to give the child to the Marquis’s Mansion, I guarantee you won’t have to worry about food or clothing, and you can continue to see patients here if you like,” Old Madam Chu continued to persuade gently.
Shao He’s coldness deepened at her lips. Old Madam Chu probably didn’t know that it was her precious grandson who had personally dispatched her and her child to the Mass Burial Mound, never intending for them to live.
“I’d rather the child suffer with me than hand him over to you!”
Old Madam Chu’s eyes turned sinister, and she lowered her voice to threaten, “I have many ways to kill you and Anji Hall. Think carefully about the consequences before you refuse!”
Shao He fearlessly met her sinister gaze, “If the Old Madam doesn’t wish to see a doctor, please leave. As for the child, you need not worry about him. His father was a Scholar and he’s already dead!”
Seeing Shao He so defiant, Old Madam Chu’s repressed anger finally erupted.
“You worthless wretch, don’t push your luck, thinking that just because you have Master Yan’s protection, you’ll be safe. Look at yourself and what your station is.”
“If my great-grandson stays with a shameless woman like you, he will never be able to lift his head again!”
“Shao He, oh Shao He, how could you stoop to such filthy acts, lingering among all sorts of men every day?”
“A woman like you is a disgrace to our Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, you’ve completely lost our face!”
Old Madam Chu pointed at Shao He, spittle flying, her harsh words cursing her vehemently, with every ugly and foul slur spewing from her mouth.
After speaking, she reached out to grab Shao He’s lapel, but Shao He agilely dodged her grab.
Old Madam Chu almost fell from that missed grab and, infuriated, steadied herself before glaring at Shao He and demanding, “What kind of attitude is this? Dare to treat me like this, are you trying to turn the world upside down?”
“I’m telling you, you won’t get away this time!”
Shao He let out a cold laugh, “Since you’ve come today, I might as well tell you clearly, you’re not welcome here!”
Old Madam Chu burst into a scornful laugh, “Hehe… good, very good, I’ve never seen such an insolent and arrogant wild girl who dares to defy my words.”
Shao He raised an eyebrow and scoffed with a mock smile, “And who are you exactly that I should respect you?”
Old Madam Chu trembled with fury, “Indeed, you’ve grown audacious, not even having regard for your elder like me. You’re quite fierce!”
Shao He’s eyes narrowed slightly as she coldly regarded Old Madam Chu.
“Old Madam, please leave immediately, otherwise, I won’t hesitate to show you out!”
Shao He’s tone was very strong and icy, even carrying a hint of danger.
Stunned by Shao He’s words, Old Madam Chu suddenly burst into loud laughter after a moment.
“Haha…”
Then, with her handkerchief covering her mouth, Old Madam Chu laughed and gasped, “Show me out?”
“I’d like to see just how capable you really are.”
Shao He glanced indifferently at Old Madam Chu, her expression as calm as if the Old Madam were nothing more than a jumping clown.
Her lips curled into a faint smile, and she spoke slowly, “I don’t care how powerful Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion is, I’ll never allow anyone to harm me and my child, including you…”
“I advise the Old Madam to do more good deeds, lest you suffer from slander and find that fate has ordained you to be without the blessings of descendants.”
What do you think?
