Chapter 56: Chapter 57 It’s simply preposterous!

“You!!!”

Shao He’s threat infuriated Old Madam Chu, her chest heaving dramatically with anger.

Chu Yu, hearing the commotion, rushed over and saw the undisguised disgust in Shao He’s eyes.

His brows knitted slightly as he asked, “Grandmother, what happened?”

“This vile wench cursed me, claiming she would see to the end of our family line, utter nonsense!”

Chu Yu glanced coldly at Shao He and, without hesitation, raised his hand to slap her. @@novelbin@@

Shao He effortlessly dodged and struck back in return.

Slap—

The clear, resounding sound of the slap echoed in the quiet hall.

Chu Yu was stunned, the burning pain on his cheek snapping him back to reality as he incredulously stared at Shao He, a trickle of blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.

Chu Yu hadn’t expected Shao He to dodge, much less retaliate with a slap of her own. He didn’t manage to avoid it in time.

Old Madam Chu watched in disbelief, her eyes wide, her voice trembling as she rebuked, “You monster, you actually dared to lay a hand on Yuyu!”

“Why can’t I retaliate, when he was the one who hit me first, and I was merely acting in self-defense?” Shao He stared back coldly at Chu Yu, unafraid to meet his fiery gaze.

The two faced off against each other, neither willing to back down.

Laughing angrily, Chu Yu scornfully said, “Ah, you’ve learned not only to die explosively, but also to be arrogant and overbearing without knowing your place! Today, I will properly discipline you, lest your actions bring disaster upon the entire Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion.”

He raised his hand to strike at Shao He again, only to find… his blow dodged once more and his wrist caught and flung aside by Shao He.

Chu Yu, furious and humiliated, was trying to regain his composure when Luo Jiner dashed in, trying to mediate, “Sister, please don’t be angry with the Marquis anymore. Quickly take your child and go.”

She then turned to Old Madam Chu and Chu Yu, offering her concern.

Unfortunately, Old Madam Chu was having none of it, demanding sternly, “If you knew she was here, why didn’t you say something sooner? Why hide it instead?”

Feigning innocence, Luo Jiner replied, “You misunderstand, Grandmother. I’ve been trying to persuade my sister to leave, but she wouldn’t agree, which is why I didn’t dare tell you.”

After hearing Luo Jiner’s explanation, Old Madam Chu’s expression eased slightly as she turned to look at Shao He.

Seeing Shao He maintain her cold, distant demeanor, she frowned and asked, “Why are you unwilling to come back with us?”

“Perhaps that question should be directed at the Marquis?” Shao He said, looking at Chu Yu with a chilling tone.

“Where is the child?”

As Chu Yu thought of that bastard child, he regretted not killing him personally, for how could he allow him to continue living?

Shao He scoffed, “Does the Marquis really wish for the child to exist?”

After a moment of silence, Chu Yu spat out through gritted teeth, “I will not allow it!”

Shao He raised an eyebrow in mocking challenge, “How utterly hypocritical of you, Marquis! To clearly dislike yet still desire the child!”

Chu Yu had run out of patience for this back-and-forth. His hand at his side clenched into a fist, the murderous intent in his eyes deepening. He could not let that bastard child live.

Feeling his intent to kill, Shao He shouted loudly, “Everyone, come and judge for yourselves! They insist I am the Lady of the Marquis of Pingnan and are trying to take me away against my will. Is there no law left?!”

The gathering onlookers, who had been eager for gossip, began whispering among themselves, having heard some rumors about the Lady of the Marquis of Pingnan.

“Isn’t the Lady of the Marquis of Pingnan already dead?”

“Indeed, and wasn’t it the Marquis of Pingnan who personally buried her?”

“I heard the Madam Marquis died in childbirth, a loss of both mother and child!”

These remarks instantly caused discomfort to Old Madam Chu, Chu Yu, and others; they hadn’t expected Shao He to make such a scene.

“Make way, make way…”

Yan Ze, with a group of constables, arrived and dispersed the crowd.

“Well, well, what wind has brought the Marquis here?” Yan Ze said, his fan flicking back and forth as he looked at Chu Yu with sarcasm.

Chu Yu forced a stiff smile on his face and responded, “Grandmother is unwell, and I’ve brought her to see a physician.”

Yan Ze squinted his eyes, a fake smile on his face, “The Marquis is so filial. However, do not forget that trouble comes from the mouth, Marquis!”

“What do you mean?” Chu Yu looked puzzled at Yan Ze, not understanding his cryptic words.

With deliberate slowness, Yan Ze elaborated, “The Madam Marquis has been buried—a fact even The Emperor is aware of. Even if someone looks similar, that doesn’t make her the Madam Marquis! I hope the Marquis will remember this well.”

Chu Yu was furiously enraged, his forehead’s veins bulging as he suppressed his anger and said, “I merely suspect that this woman’s origins are suspect, without proper registration, so I asked a few questions.”

Chu Yu continued, “Moreover, I suspect that this woman has no medical skills and is treating the commoners recklessly, isn’t that harmful to both others and herself?”

“The Marquis worries too much. I haven’t had time to attend to the matter of registration. As for my medical skills, you need not concern yourself with that. If I were lacking in medical skills, would Jian Hall allow me to treat patients here? And would so many people come here seeking my services based on my reputation?”

Shao He backed Chu Yu into a corner with her words, leaving him speechless.

“Since the Marquis has so little faith in my medical abilities, why not take Old Madam to another Imperial Physician for treatment, so as to not further delay her recovery.”
