Chapter 61: Chapter 62 Marquis, Choose Your Words Wisely
Shao He turned around, only to see Chu Yu approaching, dressed in splendid garments with a jade crown securing his hair.
Annoyed at the narrowness of the path that brought enemies together, Shao He had no wish to entangle with such a person, yet he obstinately blocked her way as if looking for trouble. With no other choice, she had to stop.
Chu Yu, seeing her impatience, sneered coldly, “What’s the matter? Are you scared?”
Shao He huffed lightly, indifferent, “Scared of what?”
Chu Yu stared at her with a sullen expression, “You are now alone, merely a young female doctor of lowly status, a disgrace to the Imperial Censorate. No wonder they disown you as their daughter.”
Having said this, Chu Yu felt a sense of exhilaration, looking down on her with disdain. Such a status was worse than death, living was only suffering.
“Marquis, you are mistaken. My parents have not disowned me, and moreover…” Shao He narrowed her eyes, glancing at him before breaking into a cold smile, “What does the Imperial Censorate’s acknowledgement have to do with you?”
As the sound of her voice faded, Shao He walked past him to continue forward.
Chu Yu’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot, and he shouted furiously, “Stop!”
Shao He raised her eyebrows, turned around unhurriedly to face him, her mouth curled in a mocking smile, “Does the Marquis have something else to say?”
“Shao He, don’t push your luck. I am asking you one last time, where is the child? If you don’t tell me… Ha! Do not blame the Marquis for being impolite!” Chu Yu threatened venomously.
Shao He curled her lips, flashing a playful expression, “Oh? What is the Marquis planning to do? Have someone take me to the official residence? Or poison me and dump me at Mass Burial Mound, or perhaps burn me to death? Surely you wouldn’t go as far as to commit murder?”
Hearing this, Chu Yu’s cheeks twitched violently, and he gritted his teeth, “You dare threaten the Marquis!”
Shao He shrugged her shoulders, her tone light, “I wouldn’t dare, but I do know that angering the Marquis would not bode well for me.”
She quickly changed the subject, her words dripping with sarcasm, “Just like Miss Luo and Old Madam Chu, incompatible as fire and water, continue like this and you will both be ruined.” @@novelbin@@
Old Madam Chu had always looked down on Luo Jiner. Old Madam’s standards were very high; she even despised her own son, the Imperial Censor, let alone a mere maidservant.
“You…”
“Oh, speaking of the Old Madam, it just occurred to me, I wonder if her headache has gotten any better?” Shao He interjected before Chu Yu could speak.
Because he knew Chu Yu was a filial grandson, who definitely cared even more about his grandmother’s illness.
True to his expectations, Chu Yu’s anger subsided as he recalled the Imperial Physician saying the prescription was good and that the Old Madam’s symptoms had indeed lessened after taking the medicine.
Even though she still occasionally fell ill, it was much better compared to before, which somewhat eased Chu Yu’s mind.
He took a deep breath, trying to suppress the turmoil in his heart, and spoke in as calm a tone as he could manage, “How did you learn medical skills? I remember you didn’t know anything like that before.”
Shao He spread her hands, retorting innocently, “The Marquis only remembers doting on your favored consort, when did you ever have the time to care about me?”
“Why should I care about you? You are a malicious woman; your actions are shameless. You don’t even compare to one-tenth of Jiner!”
“Oh, is that so?” Shao He responded noncommittally, then swiftly changed the subject, “Actually, I quite admire Old Madam Chu, for raising such a filial grandson like yourself. Half of Old Madam’s headache is indeed thanks to the Marquis’ efforts.”
Chu Yu’s face turned a shade of green, his fists creaking in anger, “Are you insinuating that I am disloyal and unrighteous?”
“I wouldn’t presume so,” Shao He shook her head lightly, “If the Marquis does not wish to listen, you are free to leave.”
“You…”
Shao He looked at his furious expression with great pleasure, continuing, “As a Doctor, I feel obligated to remind the Marquis to let the Old Madam rest more often, not to overthink things. It is said that anger harms the body, and this saying isn’t false at all.”
It was evident from Shao He’s words that the cause of Old Madam Chu’s headache was excessive worry and anger.
Chu Yu’s eyes bulged with fury, veins pulsing on his forehead, his hand clenched into a fist by his side.
“Marquis, please step aside.” Shao He extended her hand, pushing him aside, and walked straight ahead.
Chu Yu, unaccustomed to being ignored, grabbed Shao He’s wrist and demanded in a severe tone, “The Marquis can forgive and forget, as long as you hand over that calamity!”
Everyone could live, except for that child—that was the greatest humiliation and irony for Chu Yu.
After a moment of futile struggle, Shao He resigned herself to being dragged by him.
“The Marquis should watch his words!”
What do you think?
