Luo Jiner felt a sudden “thump” in her heart as she listened and turned her head to look at the Marquis. Seeing that he did not refute, but instead fell into contemplation, she felt certain that Shao He had hit the nail on the head.

There was an unpleasant feeling in her heart. The Marquis had rarely visited her room recently, so it was clear who he was having intimate relations with. Luo Jiner’s hand, hidden in her sleeve, slowly clenched.

“Since Chu Yu said he is, it likely isn’t false.” Shao He also had her doubts, but now they seemed to be confirmed.

Upon hearing that, Yun Qian furrowed his brows and murmured lowly, “If he is a Prince, why would he hide his identity to seek medical treatment?”

Yun Qian immediately followed and thought of their recent conversation. He hesitated but still spoke up, “I’ll escort you back. Young Master Pei hasn’t come recently, and you’ve offended the Marquis’s Mansion. It’s not safe for you to go back alone.”

“No need, I’d like to walk alone,” Shao He said with a smile, waving her hand and taking her leave.

With her hands clasped behind her back, she walked down the sparsely populated path, thinking back to the last meeting. She couldn’t help but wonder, Could he be avoiding me deliberately? Did I speak too harshly last time?

When she returned to her residence, looking at the neighboring courtyard, after hesitating for a long time, she climbed the big tree, stuck out half of her body, and looked towards the other side, only to see the house door shut tight and the windows closed firmly, as if no one lived there at all, prompting her to furrow her brows in confusion.

“What’s going on? Why hasn’t he come back?” she muttered to herself, completely bewildered.

The night grew deep, only a few lonely lamps lighting the lane, occasionally disturbed by the cries of a cat.

Descending from the tree, she walked towards her room. Nanny Zhang, seeing her return, welcomed her excitedly with Xiao Linzhang in her arms.

“Look who’s back, it’s mother.”

Shao He took the chubby Xiao Linzhang from her, placed him on the bed, and gently pinched his tender, baby-soft cheek.

Shao He smiled and sipped the warm water.

After playing with Xiao Linzhang for a while, she stood up, feeling tired, and said, “You should rest now. I’m a bit tired.”

Nanny Zhang quickly advised, “Miss, dinner is ready and can be served at any time.”

When she arrived at Jian Hall, before she could even get closer, she saw a luxurious carriage parked at the entrance, attended by two maids, one of whom looked quite familiar.

As Shao He walked over, just about to step into Jian Hall, a cold female voice from behind her called out, “Doctor Shao, please wait.”

Turning around, Shao He saw the carriage curtain being slowly lifted.
