Reincarnated as a Fairy: My Magic Wings Will Soar Above This Fantasy World!

Chapter 40: The New Party Member

The heavy doors to the reception area creaked open, the sound echoing through the quiet hall. Lyra and Ella followed Garan through the dimly lit corridor toward the Guild's main reception desk. Both of them were exhausted from their combat tests, but there was a sense of triumph in their steps. They had done it. They had passed the test and earned their Adventurer rank.

Garan led them to the front of the desk, where a middle-aged woman with a welcoming smile sat, sorting through papers. She looked up as they approached, her eyes flicking between the two newly promoted adventurers.

"Congratulations, both of you," Garan said, his tone more approving than before. "You’ve earned your D-rank status. You’ll be able to take on D-rank missions from now on, but if you want to attempt anything higher, you’ll need approval from the Guild Master."

The woman behind the desk smiled warmly, sliding two small wooden cards toward Lyra and Ella. "Here are your Adventurer cards," she said, her voice gentle and reassuring. "You are now officially registered as D-rank Adventurers. These cards are important, as they will keep track of your tasks, missions, and any rewards you earn."

Lyra’s fingers brushed over the smooth surface of the card. It was adorned with the Guild’s emblem—a pair of crossed swords. There was something incredibly satisfying about holding it in her hand, the symbol of a new life, new challenges, and new opportunities.

The representative continued, "As D-rank adventurers, you can take on any task within that rank. The Guild Master is a kind person, and if you ever wish to tackle higher ranks, she’s the one you’ll need to speak with." She smiled again, her eyes twinkling. "But for now, this will do."

She then pointed to a large, wooden board on the far side of the room. It was covered in neatly arranged papers, each with a brief description of a mission—monsters to hunt, supplies to deliver, or requests to investigate. "You can choose any mission from here. Just remember," she added, her tone turning slightly more serious, "you’ll need to complete at least two tasks every month to keep your license active. And whenever you kill a monster, make sure to bring back a piece of it. We need the monster’s ear, a scale, or whatever proof you can provide. If you bring back the whole body in good condition, you’ll receive a higher reward."

Lyra and Ella nodded in understanding. They had heard the rules before, but hearing them again made the whole experience feel more real. This was it. They were officially adventurers.

"Thanks for the information," Lyra said, offering the representative a smile. She glanced over at Ella, who seemed just as eager as she was. "We were also wondering... Is it possible to sign up as a party?"

The representative's eyes lit up with approval. "Of course," she replied cheerfully. "You can form a party with whomever you wish. In fact, many adventurers prefer to form parties because it increases the chances of success on harder missions. Go ahead and sign up whenever you’re ready."

Ella grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We’re ready."

Without another word, the two of them walked over to the large mission board. It was filled with a wide variety of missions, each one categorized by difficulty and danger. Lyra quickly scanned the board, her gaze flitting between different tasks. There were requests for gathering rare herbs, hunting dangerous beasts, and investigating strange occurrences in remote areas. But they were looking for something more specific.

"Here," Lyra said, pointing to one of the posters pinned to the board. "This one looks good. It says there’s a wild magic boar causing trouble near the outskirts of town. D-rank mission. Seems like something we could handle."

Ella peered over Lyra’s shoulder, nodding in agreement. "Yeah, a wild boar shouldn’t be too tough. We can handle that."

As they prepared to sign their names under the mission, a voice interrupted them.

"Excuse me," a soft voice called out from behind them. "Can I join you?"

Both Lyra and Ella turned in surprise to see a girl standing behind them. She had long, dark hair tied back in a loose ponytail, and her skin was a deep, rich shade of violet. Her ears were pointed—definitely an elf, but unlike any other elf Lyra had ever seen. This one had a more mysterious aura, darker than the usual bright and ethereal elves she had encountered.

The girl gave them a shy smile, though there was a glint of confidence in her eyes. She carried two elegantly crafted blades on her back, their hilts adorned with intricate symbols. The weapons were long and curved, clearly designed for fast, lethal strikes.

"I’m Yuki," she said, her voice calm but firm. "I’m a D-rank adventurer. I saw that you two are taking the mission to hunt the magic boar. I would like to join you, if that’s alright."

Lyra and Ella exchanged a glance. Lyra could sense the hesitation in Ella’s eyes, but at the same time, she could tell that Ella wasn’t opposed to the idea. The dark elf before them didn’t seem threatening, and she was an adventurer. In fact, her twin blades might prove useful against a dangerous animal like a magic boar.

"Sure, why not?" Lyra said with a smile, feeling the excitement bubble up again. "The more the merrier. What’s your story, Yuki?"

Yuki looked at them both, her expression softening. "I’ve been a solo adventurer for a while, but I’ve been looking for a team that I can trust. It’s hard to take on bigger missions alone, and I’ve heard good things about you two."

Ella eyed her with curiosity but nodded. "Well, we’re just starting out too, but it’s always good to have someone with experience. Alright, Yuki, you’re in. Let’s go hunt a boar."

Yuki grinned, the edges of her mouth curving upward in a genuine smile. "Thanks. I promise I won’t slow you down."

The three of them made their way to the reception desk, where they signed up as a party. The representative smiled at them warmly as she stamped their names on the mission form, marking it official.

"Good luck, all of you," she said kindly. "Remember, take care and be safe out there. The magic boar can be tricky, but I have no doubt you’ll handle it."

With their mission officially registered, the trio walked out of the Guild together, each of them filled with a sense of purpose. They were now a team, ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead. The streets of the town bustled around them, but Lyra felt a quiet thrill building within her. This was the start of something new, something bigger than she could have imagined.

As they left the town’s bustling marketplace and headed toward the outskirts of the forest, where the magic boar was rumored to be, Lyra couldn’t help but feel that their adventure was only just beginning.
