Reincarnated as a Fairy: My Magic Wings Will Soar Above This Fantasy World!

Chapter 42: The Truth of Lyra’s Origins

The air in the forest was thick with the scent of moss and earth, the morning sun filtering through the canopy above and casting soft, dappled light across the ground. The three of them, Lyra, Yuki, and Ella, had ventured deep into the woods, the trees parting just enough to let them through, but there was a strange stillness to the air. It felt as if the forest itself was holding its breath, waiting for something. Or perhaps, it was just Lyra who felt that way.

After the revelation of her wings, there was a quiet tension that hung between them. Yuki had been silent for a few moments, taking in the new information about Lyra’s true nature. But Lyra knew that silence wouldn’t last long. There were still things she needed to explain, things that she had never told anyone before. It was time for the truth, the deeper truth that not even Yuki knew.

As they walked along the winding path, Lyra turned to Yuki, who had been glancing at her wings with a mix of fascination and awe. Ella, sensing that something important was about to be said, slowed her pace and kept her attention on the path ahead, giving the two of them space.

"Yuki," Lyra began, her voice low but clear, "there’s more to the story you’ve heard. The story about fairies... it’s only half right."

Yuki glanced up at her, her expression still filled with wonder. "What do you mean? I thought... I thought all fairies were small, like the ones in the tales. Little creatures with wings, not like you."

Lyra nodded slowly, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "That’s true, in a sense. But it’s not the full truth. The fairies you’ve heard about, the ones from stories, they are small, yes. But that’s not how my kind originally was. The fairies that exist today, the ones you’ve heard about, are... well, they are the descendants of an ancient race. A race that was once much larger, with more power. My race."

Yuki raised an eyebrow in disbelief. "Wait, so... you’re saying the fairies that exist today aren’t the original ones?"

Lyra’s gaze softened, her eyes filled with a distant sorrow. "Exactly. They are... a shadow of what we used to be. You see, I’m not just some ordinary fairy. I’m different. I’m one of the last of my kind, one of the few who still has a human form. Most of my people, the original fairies, were able to transform into human bodies long before I was born. They had wings, yes, but their bodies were made to blend with the world. Not like the small fairies you see now."

Yuki walked beside her, trying to absorb the information. "So... you were once just a normal fairy, but you have a human form now?"

Lyra hesitated, then nodded. "Yes. And no. The human form wasn’t something we just ‘became.’ It was a gift... or perhaps a curse, depending on how you look at it. The fairies of old were part of this world in a way that no one can fully understand now. We were not bound by the same rules as other creatures. We could walk among humans, blend into their world. It was a time of peace. But over the years, our race began to fade, and the magic that allowed us to shift forms started to wane."

Yuki looked at her in wonder. "But you still have it. You still have the ability to change into your human form."

Lyra smiled sadly, her wings fluttering slightly. "Yes. But that’s not the most surprising part. What I’m about to tell you is something I’ve only learned recently. It’s... part of my lineage."

Yuki raised her eyebrows in curiosity. "Lineage? What do you mean?"

Lyra took a deep breath, the weight of her next words heavy in her chest. "The elder forest spirit told me that I am a descendant of the Fairy Queen. Not just any fairy queen, but one who ruled over the ancient fairies before the world changed. The elder said that my bloodline is more special than even I realized. It’s not just the ability to take on a human form that makes me different—there’s something in my magic, something that runs deeper than I can understand. He called me the 'Adriant descendant.'"

Yuki’s eyes widened, her mouth slightly agape. "The Fairy Queen’s descendant... You’re related to royalty?"

Lyra’s gaze turned distant as she nodded. "Yes. But the truth is, I don’t know much more than that. The elder forest spirit said that there are few of us left, and that my connection to the Fairy Queen could mean something important for the future. I don’t fully understand what that means yet, but it’s why I’ve been so cautious all these years."

Yuki’s voice was full of awe as she absorbed this new revelation. "That’s... incredible, Lyra. You’re not just a normal fairy. You’re like... a living legend."

Lyra chuckled softly, though there was a hint of bitterness in her laugh. "That’s what the elder said. But all I’ve known is that I’m different. Always different. And because of that, I’ve had to hide who I am for so long. I’ve always felt like an outsider."

Yuki paused, her eyes softening with empathy. "I can understand that," she said quietly. "But you don’t have to hide anymore. You’re not alone, Lyra. You’ve got me, and you’ve got Ella. And we’ll stick by you no matter what."

Lyra smiled gratefully at Yuki. Her heart warmed at the kindness in the dark elf’s voice. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t feel like she had to carry her burdens alone. "Thank you," she whispered.

Ella, who had been walking ahead of them, turned around at the sound of their conversation. "Everything okay back there?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.

Lyra nodded, giving her a reassuring smile. "Yeah. Everything’s fine." She glanced at Yuki and then back at Ella. "Just... a little more of the story to tell."

Ella raised an eyebrow but didn’t press the issue. "Well, we’ve got a wild boar to hunt, so let’s get moving."

Lyra couldn’t help but laugh softly. It was a welcome change from the heaviness that had been hanging over her. They had a mission now. A real mission, one that would help them grow and move forward. And no matter what secrets she held, no matter how different she was, she knew she wouldn’t face it alone.

The forest stretched out before them, an expanse of green and gold that beckoned them forward. As they continued on their journey, Lyra felt lighter than she had in a long time, her wings gently brushing against the wind. The path ahead was uncertain, but with Yuki and Ella by her side, she knew she wasn’t alone.
