Reincarnated as a Fairy: My Magic Wings Will Soar Above This Fantasy World!

Chapter 50: The Return to the Merchant

The journey back was uneventful. The forest, once filled with the sounds of battle, now felt peaceful and serene. The birds sang in the distance, and the rustling of the leaves provided a soft soundtrack to their walk. The air was crisp, and despite the wealth they’d just discovered, Lyra felt a sense of calm.

As they walked, Lyra’s wings fluttered gently, a constant reminder of her true nature. But she was careful to keep them hidden, folding them as tightly as she could. Though she trusted her companions implicitly, she knew that revealing her full identity might complicate things. For now, it was best to keep her secret.

"Hey, Lyra," Ella called out as they walked. "What are you planning to do with all that gold? I mean, we’re already paid for the escort mission, but this treasure’s a whole other thing."

Lyra glanced at her, her eyes thoughtful. "We’ll use it for whatever we need. Some of it might go toward equipment and supplies. But I think I’ll be keeping most of it for now. I’ve got some things I need to work on, and the rest can be split between us."

"Sounds fair to me," Yuki said with a grin. "I’ll take whatever I can get."

They made their way back toward the merchant’s camp, where the caravan had set up. The merchant was already waiting, a big grin on his face as he saw them approaching.

"Well, well," he said, rubbing his hands together. "Looks like you’ve completed your mission. And from the looks of it, you’ve done more than that."

Ella chuckled. "You could say we’ve found a little extra on the side."

Lyra stepped forward, her wings carefully hidden beneath her cloak. "We’ve finished the job," she said, her voice steady. "Here are the goods. We’ve got the payment for the escort mission, but we also found something… a bit more valuable."

The merchant’s eyes widened slightly, but he quickly recovered. "I’m sure you’ve earned every bit of it. Let me see what you’ve got."

They made their way to the back of the camp, where the merchant had set up a tent to handle transactions. Lyra carefully removed the magical scrolls from her bag, placing them on the table. "These are for me," she said, not wanting to draw too much attention to the items she was keeping. "But the gold and silver should be part of the deal."

The merchant nodded, inspecting the treasure. His eyes gleamed as he ran his fingers through the coins, his expression turning more and more impressed as he worked. "This is quite a haul," he muttered. "You’ve outdone yourselves. It looks like you’ve brought back about 700 gold coins, 10,000 silver coins, and 500 copper coins, as well as some very fine weapons and magical artifacts."

He paused and glanced at Lyra, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You’re lucky you found all this. I haven’t seen treasure this valuable in years."

Lyra didn’t say anything, her gaze steady. "So, what’s our cut?"

The merchant smiled broadly, his tone now more friendly. "I’d say a fair amount. With this haul, you’ve earned a reward well beyond what was promised. For your efforts, you’ll receive the agreed-upon 3 gold coins for the escort mission, plus an additional 50 gold coins as a bonus for bringing back such a rare find."

Lyra and her companions exchanged looks, and after a brief moment, they nodded in agreement. The merchant had kept his word, and they were satisfied with the outcome.
