Chapter 72: The Enchanted Crossbow – A New Masterpiece

The morning sun had barely begun to rise when Lyra found herself once again standing outside Allen’s workshop. The excitement from crafting the Magic Scope the day before had ignited something deep inside her—an insatiable hunger to create more.

Today, she had a new goal. She wanted to craft an enchanted crossbow with elemental capabilities and a built-in long-distance scope. It would be an advanced ranged weapon, capable of switching between different magical arrow types—fire, poison, ice, and thunder. If she could pull it off, this crossbow could change combat for long-range fighters entirely.

She took a deep breath before knocking on the door.

"What is it this time?" came Allen’s familiar, gruff voice.

Lyra smirked. "A new project!"

There was silence for a moment before the sound of locks being undone echoed from inside. The door creaked open, revealing Allen rubbing his temple, still half-asleep. "You don’t waste time, do you?"

Lyra grinned. "Nope! I’ve got another idea, and I need your help."

Allen sighed and motioned for her to enter. "Alright, alright. Let’s hear it."

The Concept of the Enchanted Crossbow

Once inside, Lyra quickly unrolled a fresh parchment and began sketching her idea.

"I want to make a crossbow that can fire magical arrows. Not just any arrows, but ones that change elements depending on the situation."

Allen raised an eyebrow, watching as Lyra drew the design. The crossbow itself would be made from reinforced Darkwood—a material that was both lightweight and resistant to magical backlash. The limbs of the crossbow would be etched with runes, allowing it to enhance the power of arrows shot from it.

She pointed to a section on the drawing. "Here’s where I’ll install a refined mana crystal. Instead of regular bolts, the crossbow will generate arrows made entirely from mana. That way, there’s no need to carry physical ammunition."

Allen’s lips curled into a smirk. "A self-sustaining ranged weapon… I like it. But what about the elements?"

Lyra tapped another part of the diagram. "I’ll need four elemental cores—fire, water, wind, and earth. By channeling mana into them, the arrows will change properties. Fire arrows will ignite, poison arrows will corrode, ice arrows will freeze, and thunder arrows will paralyze."

Allen let out a low whistle. "That’s ambitious. But it could work… if you get the runes right."

Lyra’s eyes gleamed. "I was hoping you’d say that. Let’s get started!"

Gathering the Materials

Before they could begin crafting, they needed to collect rare materials to ensure the weapon functioned properly. Allen led Lyra to a storage room filled with various enchanted materials.

  • Darkwood Planks – for the base of the crossbow.
  • Refined Mana Crystal – to act as the energy core.
  • Elemental Core Shards – fragments of pure elemental energy that could be embedded into the weapon.
  • Mythril Strings – durable yet flexible material for the bowstring, capable of withstanding magical enhancements.

Allen handed her a small engraving tool. "You’ll be carving the runes yourself this time. Let’s see if you remember what I taught you yesterday."

Lyra grinned. "Of course!"

Crafting the Crossbow

For hours, Lyra meticulously worked on shaping the Darkwood, ensuring the crossbow’s frame was both sturdy and well-balanced. Once the base structure was complete, she moved on to the rune inscriptions.

With Allen guiding her, she carefully etched intricate runes along the arms of the crossbow. These runes would stabilize mana flow, ensuring that each elemental arrow fired properly.

Then came the elemental core installation.

  • The Fire Core was embedded near the front, allowing arrows to ignite upon release.
  • The Water Core enabled arrows to form into ice or poison depending on mana manipulation.
  • The Wind Core increased accuracy and speed, making each shot faster than a regular bolt.
  • The Earth Core gave arrows piercing power, allowing them to break through armor.

Each time she installed a core, Lyra infused it with her own fairy mana, ensuring the enchantments would remain stable. The crossbow pulsed with energy, confirming the magic had taken hold.

Allen observed her work with an approving nod. "Not bad. Now, let’s test it."

The First Test

Lyra took the completed enchanted crossbow outside to an open field behind Allen’s workshop. She took a deep breath, lifted the weapon, and focused her mana into the fire core.

A glowing red arrow materialized in the crossbow’s firing groove.

She aimed at a nearby wooden target and pulled the trigger.

FWOOOOSH!

The arrow burst into flames mid-flight, striking the target and setting it ablaze.

Ella clapped. "That was amazing!"

Next, Lyra activated the water core, creating an ice arrow. She fired at a second target, and upon impact, the arrow froze the entire dummy solid.

She tried the wind and earth cores, each shot proving successful—wind arrows flew at twice the speed of a normal arrow, while earth arrows shattered reinforced stone targets.

Allen grinned. "Well, well. You’ve outdone yourself, fairy girl."

Adding the Magic Scope

Now that the crossbow itself was finished, Lyra moved on to the final enhancement—installing a new version of the Magic Scope onto it.

She modified the previous design, making it smaller and adjustable, allowing the wielder to zoom in on targets at will. She even added night vision enchantments, making it effective in low-light conditions.

With the scope mounted on top of the crossbow, Lyra tested it, aiming at a distant bird perched on a tree over 200 meters away.

With the enhanced vision, she could see the fine details of its feathers as if it were only a few feet in front of her.

Yuki smirked. "That thing is dangerous now. What are you gonna name it?"

Lyra paused, thinking. Then she smiled. "I’ll call it… the Elemental Phantom Crossbow."

Allen nodded in approval. "A fitting name for a weapon that bends the elements to its will."

A New Path Opens

With the Elemental Phantom Crossbow complete, Lyra had taken another step toward mastering magical tool crafting.

She looked at her hands, still faintly glowing with residual mana. This was only the beginning. If she could create weapons like this, who knew what else she could achieve?

Allen crossed his arms. "What’s next, girl? Gonna enchant an entire city?"

Lyra laughed. "Maybe. But first, I think I’ll enjoy using this crossbow for a bit."

Yuki, Ella, and the others watched with admiration, knowing that Lyra was on the path to becoming one of the greatest enchanters the world had ever seen.
