Vol. 11 - Chapter 562.2 - A Tri-Partie Siege! Desperate Pinch and the «Hundred Flame» Might! (2)
"Whoops, that’s really a dicey situation."
"Well, why hurry? How about we exchange some pointers?"
"No thanks. I never expected our gaps would be so big."
"...Hmm? You don't appear panicked."
Noticing the fluster merely in words but not in expression of Haku, Misato increased her vigilance in case of unexpected twists.
At a glance, Class-3's were obviously at a disadvantage here. The duration of Sanctuary might have ended but the continuous damage from it had easily cut down on their three members by 30%. One even was in more critical condition, and had Sanctuary's duration lasted a couple second more, then they would be eliminated.
Now, it was Rika and Pamela's task to sort out the remaining followers of Class-3. This would break their opponent's circle and finally give the trio of Class-1 a chance to escape. Yet, the lack of any urgency on their opponent's face didn't bode well with Misato.
"Fufu, and your borrowed time is up. Can you save yourself quick?"
"What ar—! «Terra Barrier»! Ugh!"
Misato didn't know what was occuring, but she had immediately casted her barrier when she noticed strangeness—the effect of her training in «Eden».
*Baaam!*
Something heavy collided against the barrier, causing a shock to travel across it, raising a loud noise. Misato looked at what had attacked her, and saw a giant boulder. Barrier emitted a screeching sound, a sign that the attack just now had nearly destroyed it.
"Woah, you can even protect yourself from blind spots, huh?"
Jay, the leader of Class-10, and also the preparator of the attack, made the remark while his eyes turned wide at the prowess of Misato. He was in the adjutant square.
Jay's job was «Esper». He had picked nearby rock and tossed it at super speed using the skill «Psychokinesis». However, since the toss of a boulder was a physical action instead of actual skill/spell, it didn't fell under the damage reduction if attacked from adjacent square rule. Hence, he was sort of a guerilla fighter in such scenarios.
He had also attacked Pamela and Rika the same way, but both of them similarly sliced the incoming attack.
Haku glanced in Jay's direction, and a surprising expression covered her face. She remarked in a playful tone.
"Oh dear, now I didn't expect you would be here in person, Keel. I appreciate your appearance here, but do heed the warning though; you can't win against Class-1 so easily."
"Believe me, I know. But don't you say this is our chance to shave off Class-1's hands? I doubt we would have such a chance again. Besides, it would be lame if all of you leaders are here, while I am sitting hand-on-hand, so I also gotta do what I must. Honestly, I would have preferred you stay within the walls of your base, but oh well."
"Haha, I told you, that's a futile discussion. If I don't take the spear for our class, then who will do the conquest?"
"Well, true enough. But anyway, so we're up against Class-1 right off the bat huh? —Vigilance is a must in such situations, Jay."
"I know."
On the other hand was Keel, the one spectator who had been watching everything happening from a distant hill earlier. Right now, he had changed from his earlier cheerleader attire to wearing a ragged robe over the academy's uniform, and a skull mask shifted toward the right ear instead of circular, heavy spectacles. But what was striking about him was the huge black and purple scythe resting on his shoulder, gleaming an uncanny aura, its striking color emphasising its poisonous nature. Certainly, in contrast to his wise words, the scythe was sticking out a sore thumb. It was this attire of his why he gained the alias of «Reaper».
With six members as reinforcement, and scout squad of four from earlier—the one who had clashed against Rika and team at first, the Class-9 now appeared in the area with 10 other members in tow. On the other hand, the leader of Class-10 was approaching with 3 people in tow.
It was clear what they're planning, especially when neither of the leaders went for each other's throat but spoke amicably.
"So a reinforcement huh."
"Is it? Well, I didn't say Class-3 is alone either, hehe."
After weathering the sur[rise attack, Misato's gaze turned to Haku.
It was clear the group they had seen coming from north and east were both reinforcements. And the three classes were in cahoot—probably, they'd been in alliance even before starting the match.
It also explained why they're jumping on the fray when they're engaging against other classes, or Haku's earlier remark. They're been targeted all this time.
"Hmm, that should be enough information then. Alright, you can have the field for yourself, bye."
"Ufufu, what a cold statement. Why don't we play our little game for a bit more? —«Flame Dance»!"
"«Spirit Barrier»!"
Haku's flames rampaged for the second time. Misato promptly defended herself with a barrier, but this also meant she couldn't move away from her spot.
But a moment later, Pamela joined her.
"I got one down, but one escaped-desu."
"Good going, Pamecchi."
"Yay, or well a bummer. We're in a pinch now, though."
"—We're facing at least 20 of them, while it's just the three of us. Hmm, I guess, that may be a stretch indeed."
"Either way, you're staying behind~."
Pamela managed to eliminate one of the Class-3 followers, but her path was blocked by the flames. And given that they were literally surrounded by mountains with sharp cliffs, scaling them wasn't a solution.
They would surely lose if they let them be overtaken by 14 people arriving from the northeast.
They're completely like a rat in a bag. Which left them only one solution—
"We may fall here, but so be it. Let's focus our concentrated fire on Haku and make a forceful breakthrough to the southeast. —«Regeneration Barrier»!"
"Copied!"
Since their biggest hurdle was the flames, it's better to take out Haku to make their escape. Either way, burn doesn't matter as long as they still have HP left.
Misato casted a continuous healing barrier on Pamela. Misato herself had high resistance to all such elements, but as an evasion tank, Pamela's defense was on a rather lower side.
"Then here I go, now!"@@novelbin@@
"—«Blink»!"
Matching her dashed at the ending of «Spirit Barrier», Pamela bolted in Haku’s direction using a rapid-fast dash. She weathered some fire damage amidst, one that surpassed even the HP regeneration of the barrier.
Nevertheless, after making it to the Haku with Blink, she slashed with her two swords.
"—«Give Me Your Life»!"
But Haku broke into a grin, probably having anticipated the move.
"Fufu, I am not so easy you know? «Roaring Burst of the Flaming Fox»!"
She activated a skill that triggered an explosion with her at the centre. Soon, flames crowded the space near Haku, and then an instance later, it detonated, throwing Pamela from approaching and beyond.
"—Aaaargh!"
"Pamecchi! «High Heal»!"
"That's a mere drop of water in a desert. «Flame Whirl»!"
"—Rrgrh."
Pamel received a huge amount of damage. Misato tried to heal her but the follow up fire swirl, a strong offensive spell, hit her square on, and blew her away.
"«Extra Heal»! —You all right, Pamecchi?!"
"I fumbled. But I am not injured, so relax-desu!"
Misato quickly made her way to Pamel and casted a potent healing spell, helping her recover HP. But—that was a fatal mistake.
"Fufu, we have you at a place now."
Misato swiftly turned around, and saw Jay with two huge boulders floating around him. The other 10 or so members were also waiting for the signal to attack.
"Tahaha~, It's not going to be easy defending huh."
A faint chuckle escaped Misato as she realised their tricky situation, and maybe this was where their role ends—she had thought when it happened.
"«Apocalypse»!!"
—*Boooommm*
A loud explosion rang. A remarkable spell trailer toward the group of Class-10 and Class-9.
"Wha—kyaaa?!"
"Huh, what's this suddenly?!"
A flash momentarily dazzled their vision as they heard the screams of both classes.
As the mighty magic crashed into the party, with cries akin to pandemonium ringing in the area, Misato belatedly noticed a shadow approaching from southwest.
"Sheesh, you are a good-for-nothing, Misato."
"Ah!"
The newcomer was ever so familiar for her, and a fellow guild member for Pamela.
With gallant pace, and navy blue robe draping over body, the style reeks of a magician-esque person. And soon, that silver hair and sagious expression—the figure of the Class-8 leader reflected on Misato's eyes.
"Mert-sama!"
He was the reliable «Wiseman» of «Eden»—Mert.
