Silvia suddenly met the Spirit that was living with the giant golden dung beetle, which seemed naturally attracted to her presence.
FLASH!
At first, it resembled nothing but a faint golden glow, which rapidly gathered together into something, some sort of small little creature.
It gained a pseudo physical form right away, more so Silvia could see them other than anything else.
It was shaped like a small golden scarab, with feathered wings and a big red jewel over its head…
Silvia gasped, stepping back in utter disbelief, covering her mouth but then screaming.
"Uhh… A-Aquarinaaaa! I think I met the Spirit!"
The moment Aquarina glanced at it when Silvia screamed at her, she was reminded of the symbols and ornaments that the artifacts and monuments inside the pyramids had.
Yes, the pyramids which were ancient gods’ ruins that were found in the deserts of the floating continent of Cloudia, those pyramids!
"T-That’s…!" Aquarina muttered. "Woah, it’s really a spirit, I was right! Nice, you have to quickly make a contract with it, Silvia!"
"A-A contract? I don’t know how to do that though!" Silvia muttered. "Um, little scarab friend, would you like a contract with me? To become my familiar?"
The golden scarab only floated in midair, glancing at Silvia with its big eyes while flapping its small, feathered wings.
"You…"
And suddenly, out of nowhere, it spoke directly inside her mind.
"E-Eh?!"
Silvia jumped off the floor and then fell over the hard, cold stone of the caves, groaning in pain.
"Ouch, did that spirit talk to me?!"
The scarab was suddenly floating above her!
"I talked to you, yes."
"Huh?!"
Silvia gasped once more! She didn’t know spirits could talk to other people so easily!
However, remembering how Undine can talk and yap so much, she thought it might not be too far-fetched.
"S-So you’re one of those spirits that can talk! I see, I see…"
She tried to calm herself down, yet the spirit was quite eerie and maybe too serious.
Maybe it was angered that its host died?
"I am Khepri, a Spirit of Sunlight and Sand," said the golden scarab. "A Dual Elemental Spirit such as myself is a very rare occurrence, don’t you think?"
"T-Two elements?!" Silvia muttered. "Aquarinaaa! Come here already!"
"You have to deal with him yourself!" Aquarina said, storing the giant bug carcass piece by piece.
"Eeh…?" Silvia felt lost.
What can she do now?
"I-I think you are very amazing, mister Khepri," said Silvia.
"I have no sex, but I do think I’m a lady, so Lady Khepri," said the sprit.
"Lady Khepri!" muttered Silvia. "Um, why were you inside that monster?"
"It was a host," said Khepri. "I hold little attached to her to be honest. She used me to gain more power, and I used her to grow bigger and absorb her life essence and mana for sustenance. Because of my dual element, I require much more energy than other spirits. Living on my own in the world by itself is dangerous, as I require to be constantly siphoning energy from something to survive."
"B-But why?" Silvia wondered, tilting her head. "Wait, is this why the bug could shoot lasers? Was that your power, Khepri?"
"It was, she could unleash my power through Sunlight Lasers," nodded Khepri. "And well… the reason I’m so special is because… Uhh, I kind of forgot right now. But I am fairly sure I was… I had a life or something."
"A life?" wondered Silvia, without understanding a single thing.
"I wasn’t a spirit all the time," said Khepri. "I once was… something else. Ahh. But I got lost, for so many years. I could take host after host to survive… taking over so many beasts slowly made my memory get fuzzy and confusing…"
"I-I see…" Silvia was a bit confused but got the hang of it. "You’ve been lost in the desert? And you were… someone else? Not a spirit?"
"Yes, I wasn’t… a spirit all the time, but something happened to me," Khepri nodded. "However, the only thing I remember now is my life as one… And so, I am a Spirit now. Although due to my power, I would consider myself a High Spirit, rather than a normal Spirit."
"H-High Spirit?!" Silvia gasped.
"Yes, and you are very compatible with me, girl!" Khepri nodded. "However, I require… your name, what are you called?"
"Silvia!" Silvia said. "And you? Ah, right, you’re Khepri! It’s rare for spirits to come with their own names. Usually they are called by their masters."
"Khepri is… it has always been my name, my name given to me by… to me by… Uh, I don’t remember," sighed Khepri. "Well, whatever. Anyways! Silvia! You could have the great honor of becoming my vessel- I mean, my master I suppose? A familiar contract, a spirit and master bond, I had never done one of those. I was mostly a host to vessels. But I could try this, yes." @@novelbin@@
"Sure! I-I would be so happy!" Silvia nodded. "Let’s do it now!"
"No, wait," Khepri said. "There are no conditions! After all, I am a High Spirit, I simply won’t handle myself to someone else for free. I will require of you to do me a few favors first."
"Favors?" Silvia asked.
"Yes, you see, I used to have my own hideout, I think… I remember it was something like a huge… pyramid-shaped golden mountain," said Khepri. "In there, I had a pile of treasures I loved. However… Uh, something came. Then everything was destroyed, and I had to run away I believe. But my most precious ornaments, magically attuned to me, were lost. I require them! I think with them, I could finally regain my memories of who I once was."
"E-Ehhh? And how will I ever find such things in this wide desert, Khepri? This sounds very hard!" said Silvia.
"Fufufu, don’t worry about that, what do you think this red colored crown is for? This huge jewel is a special magical devise that helps me detect where they are!" Khepri flew into the air and made her red jewel shine brightly. "With this we’ll find my three ornaments easily!"
"Oh nice! But… um, why didn’t you find them before if its so easy?"
"Because monsters are stupid, and I couldn’t order them to do this!"
"Oh, makes sense…"
