Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 620 Samples

Although Xu Feng had yet to confirm if his new deduction was true or not, Cole's response and concern toward him helped verify it.

"Michael, I've been working for Battleship Lux for too long. I know how they operate. You're still a Trainee and young. Heed my advice and run away if you can." Cole said, his expression filled with a melancholy look.

He wanted to see the stars outside, but there weren't even any windows in this isolated room.

Everywhere was reinforced with special material, ensuring the occupant could not escape whatsoever.

To have a window created meant having some glass— most likely transparent. And if that were the case, then the occupant would know where they currently are and might orchestrate an escape plan.

"Have you given up hope?" Xu Feng gazed at him and asked softly. "If you have given up hope, then you should have committed suicide already."

"Oh, I wish." Cole laughed with much difficulty as he dragged his clothes down a little, revealing a small, thin, metal necklace around his neck.

"Do you see this device? It could sense my action if I wanted to do any self-harm and would tighten up immediately. The pain is excruciating but won't ever be lethal enough to kill me." He continued, clarifying that it wasn't that he didn't wish for death.

But rather, he couldn't even choose death in this grim situation.

In this era, death was considered a luxury. And he was merely the majority who couldn't even afford such luxury.

High Rank?

That was laughable, with how easily the High-Rank personnel could be replaced.

Being High Rank meant lots of great benefits, such as money, women, and even delicious food.

However, with great benefit, it naturally came with great risk. And Cole just so happened to have fallen and received that risk.

This was the reason why Xu Feng didn't empathize or sympathize with Cole's situation.

Sure, he might look sorrowful and down now, but Xu Feng knew damn well that if Cole hadn't contracted an unknown disease. Then he would probably be in bed, getting laid with a beautiful woman.

"Okay, I've gathered enough samples for now." Xu Feng stood up and glanced at Cole. "Try not to move around too much."

Shortly after Xu Feng exited the room, he was greeted by a few guards who had their guns pointed at him. Though their distance was quite far apart.

"Cleric Michael, listen carefully and start turning to your left and head over to Room 13. That's where you'll be researching the solution. If you refuse to comply with the order, then we're permitted to shoot." One of the guards warned solemnly.

Unfazed by the development, Xu Feng nodded and turned toward the left. As he was about to enter Room 13, he heard the same guard announcing that if he required any materials, then he was free to request them from the interior.

However, he was forbidden to leave the room at any cost unless he wished to meet with the patient.

When Xu Feng heard that, he pointed at Room 12 and asked, "What about the patient in this room? I've heard he's been affected by Cole."

"That patient is no more. You only need to worry about Cole." The guard quickly responded and urged him to head inside.

Xu Feng took a mental note of the word and entered.

Once he was inside, the guard proceeded to lock the door from outside, clearly treating Xu Feng like a prisoner.

'Heh, so this is what they want to depict the Cleric's life.' He was amused by the attitude and behavior.

Sometime later, he inspected the interior and realized the room was indeed a certified lab experiment with proper devices.

Amidst the inspection, Xu Feng noticed there were some pinhole cameras secretly installed around the room. In other words, he was under heavy surveillance.

He feigned ignorance of the matter, walked toward the desk, and started working on analyzing the samples.

The current him was the equivalent of an insignificant ant. There was nothing he could do about it with how much nerf he received.

Cause a fuss?

Sure, a bullet would be shot straight at his vital spot, effectively failing trial.

'Ensure Battleship Lux is maintained at the top. If that's the condition, then I might as well be the one leading the charge.' Xu Feng thought. As he placed the test tube on a piece of specialized equipment, otherwise known as NanoSpectral BioAnalyzer, he pressed the start button.@@novelbin@@

Soon, the device activated, its holographic interface projecting an intricate 3D model of the bacteria at a molecular level. Within seconds, it identified the pathogen's genetic sequence, highlighting potential vulnerabilities with a cascade of glowing data streams.

On a surface level of comprehension though, it appeared as if the bacteria was just a regular virus.

However, that was obviously not the case. Otherwise, it would have been resolved from the very start.

"This type of bacteria wouldn't even be able to penetrate the immune system that the crews were injected with the vaccination." He murmured and placed another test tube.

Time quickly went by, and Xu Feng's research was completely unsuccessful in discovering the main problem.

'None of these samples were capable of forcing Cole into his current state.' He furrowed his brows. He had even attempted to combine two or three samples together to see what kind of effect it had. Yet the result ended up being a rather well-known virus that was already listed in the Battleship Lux database.

There was a cure for the combination of said viruses, so Xu Feng realized he was missing something else— the key component that utilized the samples.

That key component must also be capable of mutating into a deadly infectious unknown virus capable of being a bioweapon.

'Seems like I must make a trip to Planet Zaun.' Xu Feng came to the conclusion and began sending in his request.

With the request sent, Xu Feng proceeded to spend the next few days completely isolated in his room.
