Chapter 655: Socializing
"Hey there," Zhao Kai flashed his cheeky smile, seemingly hoping to interact with a few women.
However, much to his depression, the women glanced at him with a startled expression.
What followed was them retreating away from him.
Before long, Zhao Kai found that there seemed to be an invisible line surrounding him.
"What was that person doing?"
"I don’t know. Did he manage to get in from the poor line?"
"Geez, my rhythm and mood is now ruined. What is the High Table Club doing?"
And almost immediately, they began gossiping about Zhao Kai’s actions.
Their voice wasn’t that loud, but it wasn’t too low either to be difficult to hear despite the loud DJ music playing in the background.
Astonished, Zhao Kai felt isolated once again. The suppressed feelings of being unwanted and labeled as an illegitimate child seemed to resurface from deep inside an abyss.
Just as a rush of suffocation seemed to consume Zhao Kai whole, he suddenly felt a hand placed on his shoulder.
"Phew, so you were here messing around all along huh, Kai." Xu Feng faked an exhausted expression and chided.
"I know you have been busy handling the Zhao Enterprise business because of your grandfather, Zhao Gaofu. He has high expectations of you. But did you seriously need to ditch me that quickly and come dancing on the floor without me?" He continued, sounding extremely pitiful.
"What do you mean ditching you?" Zhao Kai raised an eyebrow and was alarmed by Xu Feng’s sudden accusation.
However, he had failed to notice that the people who were gossiping earlier had turned deathly silent.
Without a doubt, the DJ music wasn’t enough to cover the tone that Xu Feng used to practically announce Zhao Kai’s identity.
"Wait, so he’s the accepted grandson of President Zhao."
"Ah, it makes sense now for his enthusiasm."
Shortly after, the women who had distanced themselves from Zhao Kai earlier, all stepped toward him and smiled brightly.
"I didn’t expect you to be here, Mister Zhao Kai." One of the women said softly. "I’m Hu Xian and my father owns a real estate development business. If there’s some land that you are interested in, you can call me."
Hu Xian then handed over a business card to Zhao Kai, turned around, and returned to her table. She didn’t even wait for his response.
Meanwhile, Zhao Kai was dumbfounded by the change of situation. His eyes stared at the golden business card which appeared to have Hu Xian’s personal contact number instead, rather than the company number.
Similar situations continued to occur, and it was mainly the women who had distanced themselves from Zhao Kai earlier. They all smiled magnanimously and greeted him with their respective business cards.
None of them apologized or acted overly friendly, which made it clear they wanted to erase any animosity in their interaction.
A few seconds later, Xu Feng dragged Zhao Kai to an empty table to be seated.
"What just happened, Feng?" He quickly turned to him and questioned the abnormality.
"What happened was them trying to make amends of their earlier behavior, but also not overdoing it that would disgust you." Xu Feng mused and explained the situation.
Previously, Zhao Kai appeared like a buffoon who wanted to snag a woman. His status was unknown, but his actions indicated him as a poor country bumpkin.
However, thanks to Xu Feng’s timely interruption, followed by his declaration of Zhao Kai’s status, these people realized they got it all wrong.
Zhao Kai being a recently acknowledged illegitimate grandson of Zhao Gaofu wasn’t some secret. After all, it happened during the birthday party of Zhao Gaofu, and anyone with a bit of an intelligence network would have learned of this news.
If they still remained unaware of such news, then the term living under the rock was an understatement. It was better to say they were completely out of their influence circle.
As Zhao Kai pondered over the subtle implication, realization soon dawned upon him.
"Ah, was it because you mentioned to them who my grandfather was?" Zhao Kai twitched his mouth.
"That’s right. You are one lucky bastard with such a godly connection."
"..."
Unamused by the joke, Zhao Kai wrapped his arms around Xu Feng and attempted a strangle. "What godly connection? Aren’t you the one with a godly connection? Not only did you have me as your brother, but you also have a powerful mysterious boss."
"Just a coincidence. Nothing more and nothing less." Xu Feng then pretended to be hurt and surrendered himself.
"As if I’d believe you!" Zhao Kai, however, felt his arms turning numb from trying to strangle a tough body.
In the end, he had no choice but to let go.
"Ugh, how did you even train your body and play Divine World so flawlessly?" He complained.
"I’ve got a training office established at the Apex Tower." Xu Feng responded, his eyes wandering around.
"Hoh, the Apex Tower. You really struck it big." Zhao Kai teased. "Anyway, shouldn’t I get a free voucher to do some training there?"
While Zhao Kai continued to converse, he was unaware that Xu Feng had stopped paying attention and was trying to look for someone.
’Hmm, they should be here by now.’ Xu Feng thought to himself.
The High Table Club was not just some random club that was constructed out of the blue. Instead, it was actually a franchise club that had its club established in other graded cities.
Its fame was long established as a luxury club catered to the high class, with a few margins of people being in the lower pyramid society. Aside from its operation as how a club should be, it was also the perfect gathering for socializing with people to make a business deal. Find more to read at NovelBin.Côm
Of course, the people doing the business deals weren’t some adults or old folks, but rather, the youngsters such as heirs or contending successors.
The adults merely stayed their hands and watched in the back, using this as a chance to test their successors or heirs.
And that was the main motive of a High Table Club appearing here.
’The franchise owner… I’ll need to get their sponsors.’ He gazed at the new people who arrived from a special door.
What do you think?
