“How could there be nothing?”
Xia Shan, not willing to give up, continued searching through her backpack. She had three mechanical craftsman backpacks, each with fifty slots, which were rewards given to her when her level as an Alchemy Engineer rose to the level of a proficient professional.
The benefit of a mechanical craftsman backpack is that it provides extra stacking bonuses when storing parts and mechanical items.
After taking everything into account, Xia Shan’s three fifty-slot backpacks were filled with all kinds of strange mechanical parts and materials for crafting.
If the doll girl is indeed a doll, maybe she can eat screws?
Xia Shan, looking at the mechanical parts filling up her backpack, fell into a bizarre train of thought, but she quickly…
“What am I thinking?” Xia Shan, on the verge of a breakdown, threw one of her fifty-slot backpacks onto the ground.
“Fureya, wait for me, I’ll go buy you something to eat!”
Xia Shan picked her backpack up off the ground and reopened it to check how much money she had left.
The money section displayed a total of 0 copper coins, 0 silver coins, and 0 Gold Coins.
“How can I not have a single copper coin?” Seeing her empty wallet almost drove Xia Shan to despair.
But soon, Xia Shan remembered that since starting to play Spiritus, she had spent all the money she earned from instances and fighting monsters as soon as she got it… What was it spent on?
Her backpack full of screws, mechanical components!
Advancing in life skills really was a colossal drain on funds. Xia Shan had to spend her entire salary buying Gold Coins just to barely scrape her way to a proficient level as an Alchemy Engineer, still a tiny bit away from reaching the master level.
What to do?
Xia Shan was facing the most distressing situation of her life, something that would also be considered the most shameful for other men: not having the money to buy food for one’s own wife!
“Sell the parts?” Xia Shan glanced at the mechanical parts filling her backpack. Each varied in price from one to five copper coins, and she only needed to sell a few to be able to buy the cheapest… plain steamed buns from the chef in Lionheart City.
The doll girl had suffered such serious injuries! And she was considering feeding her plain steamed buns?
If Xia Shan had a boyfriend who did that, she’d break up with him immediately the next day!
You’ve got to at least buy a bowl of porridge! And not just any porridge, but a nutritious one!
“I can only spend money now,” she mused.
The most expensive food sold by an NPC in Lionheart City that Xia Shan could remember was a bowl named Dragon’s Call Eight-Treasure Porridge.
This item allowed players to recover five thousand health points in seven seconds after consuming it, receive a five percent increase in defensive power and a twelve percent health regeneration rate, along with a special effect known as Dragon’s Call. There was a two percent chance of triggering one hundred points of magic damage with an attack.
Players could use Healing Potions during battle, but food needed to be eaten outside of combat. However, to most players, it was just another buff item!
But to Xia Shan, that was the best porridge in the world, and it cost forty-two silver coins.
It hurts a little… Xia Shan looked at the remaining two thousand yuan in her bank account, which was her living expenses for a month.
But not expensive!
The current price of Gold Coins in Spiritus was merely three hundred thirty-seven yuan per Gold Coin, and one Gold Coin could be exchanged for one hundred silver coins. She was about to spend a little over a hundred yuan to buy a bowl of porridge for the doll girl.
“If I don’t spend money now, when will I ever do it? Buy, buy, buy! Fureya, just wait! I’ll be right back!” With a determined heart, Xia Shan quickly used a Return to City magic.
………
Meanwhile… Mo Shigui had also already logged in and arrived at Biland Island. He too found his Fureya underneath the ancient tree, in the hollow below it.
However, compared to Xia Shan’s predicament, Mo Shigui seemed… much more extravagant when saving his own Fureya.
Mo Shigui had now found a chair and was sitting across a table from Fureya, with his shield and longsword placed in a corner of the tree hollow.
Fureya was sitting in front of him, and between Mo Shigui and Fureya was a table, laden with various dishes that bore the words, “Sorry, luminous cuisine is truly impressive.”
His Fureya looked very restrained at the sight of so many dazzling foods, holding a spoon in her hand, unsure where to begin.
“If you’re feeling weak, you should start with some porridge. I’m not too sure if you can eat human food, but if you have hunger and thirst levels, then it should be fine.”
Mo Shigui was seated, his gaze passing over the table filled with food to look at Fureya, who sat on the other side, now dressed in a pristine white Priest’s garment.
This Priest’s garment was also an epic piece of equipment, known as ‘Life’s Refuge,’ one of the top-tier outfits for a level fifty healer, with effects that increased healing output and buff enhancement, among other things.
However, there was an additional note on this garment that said, “It is said that the wearer shall forever be free from the affliction of diseases.”
From the current situation, it seemed that the garment’s description was merely a legend, as Fureya’s weakened state had yet to improve.
Fureya heeded Mo Shigui’s advice and began to eat Dragon’s Roar Eight Treasure Porridge in small spoonfuls… of legendary quality!
“The food on the table doesn’t have a freshness attribute, so it shouldn’t spoil. I’ll leave these here, and you can tell me what you want to eat.”
Mo Shigui watched as Fureya’s hunger and thirst levels began to rapidly rise, and as the weakened attribute flickered once before disappearing, he stood up from his chair.
This was because his Fureya had another negative attribute: fatigue.
“I’m going to Lionheart City to buy you a bed. By the way, can you leave this tree hollow?” Mo Shigui asked Fureya.
Fureya did not answer, her movement with the spoon stiffened slightly, which Mo Shigui caught.
“I see. It’s best to get some sleep after eating. The next part of the main quest requires your health to be fully restored to trigger it.”
Mo Shigui glanced at his own main quest log, his was still at the same stage as Xia Shan’s—stuck on the second stage of the quest “On the Brink of Death.”
The requirement to complete this quest was “Fureya’s health must reach ninety percent.”
Every negative state that Fureya had reduced her maximum health, and while she was in a state of hunger and thirst, even the best Healing Potion Mo Shigui used could only restore a hundred points of health to Fureya.
Fureya’s health was now at seven hundred points, and the last two hundred points would likely need to be recovered through sleep.
Mo Shigui picked up the shield and longsword from the corner, paused his steps as he reached the entrance of the tree hollow.
“One more thing, did that porridge have any flavor?” Mo Shigui remembered some… unknown little settings about the spirits that Starry Sky had mentioned to him, one of which was that food sold by NPCs in the game was flavorless.
At the time, Mo Shigui thought, of course, it had no flavor. If food in the VR game really had taste, Mo Shigui would have doubted whether he was fed through a tube in the back of his head.
So… what about when an NPC eats?
Fureya was taken aback when Mo Shigui asked.
“Tell me the truth,” Mo Shigui said as he stood beside Fureya.
Fureya gently shook her head.
“How about this?” Mo Shigui gave Fureya another bowl of legendary-quality Russian soup.
After taking a sip with her spoon, Fureya came to the same conclusion and shook her head.
“I understand. Eat your fill first,” Mo Shigui said.
After confirming this, Mo Shigui left the tree hollow without looking back, and after he left, Fureya, looking at the brand-new clothes on her body, had a barely discernible smile at the corner of her mouth.
What do you think?
