Chapter 66: Chapter 65 New Version Preview

Tower of Trial plane.

The prophecy is true, the apocalypse is really coming.

The Gun Knight lifted his gaze to the sky outside the Tower of Trial; a deep blue orb had appeared in the sky of the Tower nine days ago, resembling both the sun and a meteorite about to fall.

But the orb moved very slowly, initially so small it seemed like a mere speck of sesame seed, barely visible without a close look.

Today, that deep blue orb had grown to dominate half the sky of the Tower of Trial.

With his monocular telescope, the Gun Knight could see cities reflected inside the orb; this was neither a meteorite nor the sun, but another world.

A desolate world was gradually approaching the plane of the Tower of Trial, and the very moment this desolate world made contact with the Tower’s plane, the foretold apocalypse would arrive.

“Sir, what are they doing?”

The Gun Knight’s adjutant, who had just been transferred to the Tower of Trial plane that day, asked him.

The four great empires had a written agreement to share the Tower of Trial; military forces were not allowed within the tower, this high tower was a treasure shared by all the world’s original inhabitants.

Yet, the prophecy of apocalypse forced Flowing Water Country to break this covenant, deploying thousands of elite soldiers outside the Tower of Trial in advance.

The adjutant of the Gun Knight had come with the soldiers of Flowing Water Country, and what he was inquiring about were the Sacred Spirits, hopping around outside the Tower in the distance.

“Photography,” said the Gun Knight, uttering a word his adjutant couldn’t understand, “They’re taking a group photo.”

“Group photo?”

“It’s about capturing this image for posterity. When His Majesty the King travels abroad and encounters wondrous sights, doesn’t he have court painters record them? That’s what these Spirits are doing.”

The Gun Knight glanced at the group of Spirits in the distance, busy taking photos and posing for a group picture.

When the azure ‘Destruction Plane’ appeared high above the Tower of Trial, the Spirits had also shown great surprise.

But their astonishment was unlike that of the Gun Knight and his soldiers; his soldiers’ alarm stemmed from a fear of the unknown, as the mere merger of planes was already beyond their comprehension.

Moreover, the prophecy of the pending apocalypse left the soldiers in a state of panic, but the astonishment of the Spirits…

“It’s really just a teaser for the new version of the game, just as the forum analysis said.”

“Did you get the screenshot? After the update, we probably won’t see such a spectacular scene anymore.”

“Already on it!”

“Anyone up for a dance battle?” @@novelbin@@

Listening to the clamor of the Spirits in the distance, after spending nine days with them, the Gun Knight had gradually gotten used to the mindset of these saviors.

It would be more apt to describe their emotions as excitement rather than surprise, as these Spirits were looking forward to the apocalypse, even with an eager anticipation.

And just then, a large number of Darkflame soldiers suddenly appeared on the other side of the Flowing Water Country encampment.

“Tourism? Kermo! I believe in your nation’s prophecy of doom, but can you really trust these saviors who seem like they’ve run straight out of a circus?”

A burly man approached the Gun Knight; he was the commander Atrang leading the soldiers of Dark Flame Country, who had also been monitoring the changes in the Tower of Trial.

But this was the first time they had led soldiers to be stationed at the Tower.

“The circus is indeed a very fitting description,” the Gun Knight nodded in agreement.

The area where the fairy merchant of the Tower of Trial was located had turned into a gathering place for high-level Spirit players, and after completing an instance, some players went to the fairy merchant to sing and dance.

It was literally singing and dancing. Jiang Qiao had optimized the Spirit dance system, and there were actually a few Spirit players who aimed to collect all the dance moves in the Spirit community.

So, to the native inhabitants, it looked like a group of strange people with horse, bear, and pixel heads dancing around a weak, helpless, and pitiable fairy merchant, almost like some tribal sacrifice ritual.

“Can we really rely on them?” General Atrang had heard from the Flowing Water Country that these Spirits were key to saving the world.

“I cannot judge their reliability, but as for their combat strength, I suggest General Atrang tries a few rounds with the Spirits in that arena,” the Gun Knight pointed to the arena that had been set up earlier.

“Really? There’s not much to do during my garrison period anyway,” General Atrang seemed eager to try and went to personally test the strength of those Spirits.

“Oh! Right… a small piece of advice, remember to tell those Spirits ‘not to use high-level skills’ when you get on the arena,” the Gun Knight kindly shared the experience he had gathered from his nine days of combat in the arena.

In those nine days, the level of the Spirit players the Gun Knight fought against rose from thirty to fifty. As the Spirits’ levels increased, the fights became more challenging for the Gun Knight, but once he figured out the Spirits’ skills, he could still instantly defeat some rookies.

But that was provided those rookies’ level forty-five skills didn’t have too large a range.

“High-level skills?” General Atrang didn’t understand what the Gun Knight was talking about.

“Each of those Spirits has mastered one to three very powerful spells. Once unleashed, the arena could be destroyed, so such skills are supposedly banned in the contests,” the Gun Knight explained. “For example…”

Just as the Gun Knight was thinking of an example, a panicked shout suddenly came from the arena nearby.

“Get out of the way! I hit the wrong button!”

“This… this is not what we talked about before!”

As the Gun Knight turned his head to look at the arena, he noticed one of his Knights was fighting against a Berserker player.

The Berserker’s greatsword instantly solidified with red blood crystals, and he leaped from the air to infuse the Blood Qi Power within his body into the ground.

The Gun Knight had fought against many Berserker players, so he was very familiar with this move and knew how to dodge it.

But the problem was that the elite soldier under the Gun Knight’s command didn’t know how.

The Berserker’s sword of Blood Qi fiercely split the ground. As the ground shook, the elite soldier fell, and then a large amount of scorching blood spewed from the cracks in the ground, engulfing the elite soldier like lava.

“Carry him off! Next!”

The Gun Knight only heard a shout from a Pharmacist responsible for healing below the arena.

They wouldn’t truly die even if they died in the Tower of Trial plane; only the original body in their home plane would suffer a severe spirit shock, whose pain was avoided thanks to the tower spirit’s healing abilities.

“Do you want to try your hand, General Atrang?” the Gun Knight asked, making a gesture of invitation.

Marshal Atrang watched as the stretcher carried away the elite soldier, who was still screaming something like “Despicable Spirit! We agreed not to use high-level skills! Ah… I’m still bleeding out.”

Not only the Gun Knight, but the elites of the Flowing Water Country had crossed swords with the Spirits nearly a thousand times already, and many of them had even become quite familiar with the Spirits.

Now it was the turn of the Dark Flame Country to challenge these Spirits.

“Let’s focus on dealing with the impending doomsday crisis instead. I can sense that the enemy we are about to face is extremely dangerous,” General Atrang wasn’t about to perform such… a morale-damaging act.
