Chapter 67 - 66 The Beginning of the Battle of the Gods
Chapter 67: Chapter 66 The Beginning of the Battle of the Gods
Located in the Divine Fragment plane.
“Shun Zi!”
The Wasp Knight sat on the execution platform and played ten poker cards from her hand. After placing the cards on the wooden board of the platform, the eyes beneath the Wasp Knight’s mask glanced over the axe-wielding man and the Lion Heart Knight.
The Lion Heart Knight scratched his pale gold helmet with his armguard, a bit vexed, and muttered through the helmet, “I can’t follow that.”
“Pass.” The axe-wielding man gave up following the cards straightforwardly.
“Just one three.”
The Wasp Knight then laid a diamond three on the board. She was the landlord for this round, and she had already lost three games in a row to the axe-wielding man. But this time, she was the landlord, and her hand was exceptionally good.
Now, she had only the joker and a bomb left in her hand. The axe-wielding man had thirteen cards left, and she didn’t believe that he could beat her instantly with those!
“Warrior.” The Lion Heart Knight threw out a Jack, leaving it all up to the axe-wielding man’s play. As long as the axe-wielding man did not drop a bomb, the Wasp Knight would win this round.
The axe-wielding man glanced at his cards, then looked up at the Wasp Knight, whose eyes beneath the mask seemed to be telling him, ‘if you dare play a bomb, I’ll real-life PK you.’
Truth be told, the Wasp Knight was not cut out for playing landlord, a game that required cunning and team cooperation. During the nine days, the axe-wielding man was the landlord most of the time. If they were gambling, the Wasp Knight and the Lion Heart Knight would probably lose so much they’d owe their armor to the axe-wielding man.
This time, the axe-wielding man decided to let it slide and played a single queen, the ‘Q’.
The Wasp Knight suppressed the excitement in her heart and pushed the joker down; when the Lion Heart Knight and the axe-wielding man both shook their heads indicating they couldn’t follow…
“I won!” The Wasp Knight raised the four remaining cards in her hand. The word ‘bomb’ she was about to shout out when a whirlwind blew the poker cards on the platform into the sky.
Along with the playing cards swept up by the whirlwind were the four bomb cards in the Wasp Knight’s hand!
“Where’s… where’s the bomb?”
The moment the Wasp Knight lowered her hand, she realized the poker cards had vanished, and being an assassin with excellent emotional control, she kept her cool and lifted her head.
Through the slit in her mask, she saw a Mage clad in crimson robes emerging from behind the execution platform.
One of Queen Mei’s Five Knights, the Red Knight, had stepped out from his post at the Mage Tower.
“The battle for plunder is about to begin! I have a feeling… this time we will be facing not only the natives of this world but also the Sea Blue Goddess’s chosen warriors.” The Red Knight spoke sternly to the three slackers, “It’s time to prepare for battle!” @@novelbin@@
“My oversight.”
The Lion Heart Knight only then realized that war was imminent. A bolt of lightning flashed, his poker cards turned to ashes in his hand, disappearing. At the same time, the Lion Heart Knight gripped his spear and stood up from the execution platform…
“Seems we can only continue this game after the war of plunder ends.” The axe-wielding man closed his hand of cards and tucked them into his waist bag.
“By ourselves, we can’t control such a vast number of undead soldiers. Troy and Sigel, you go and gather the conscious subordinates. This war won’t be fought by us alone; all of Queen Mei’s subjects will take part.”
The Red Knight was the only Mage among the Five Knights and was also the central figure controlling the entire army of the undead.
“You want the civilians to fight?” The Lion Heart Knight raised his spear to halt the Red Knight’s advance. Even though the civilians had turned into undead, they remained the charges he was duty-bound to protect in the eyes of this upright Knight.
“They are your soldiers, Lord Sigel. Queen Mei’s power can resurrect all your soldiers, and even those who once invaded our nation can be revived. This is the power of the Divine Fragment, but upon revival, they are no more than irrational undead, needing your command and that of others.”
The Red Knight gently moved aside the Lion Heart Knight’s spear with his Magic Wand.
“My duty is to guard the entrance to Her Majesty the Queen’s palace, but I can let my lieutenant take command,” said the Lion Heart Knight.
“That’s right… gather everyone in the city still of sound mind, the battle to reclaim everything begins now,” declared the Red Knight, and as his words fell…
No one answered him; all lifted their eyes to the sky in unison, including the red-clad Knight.
“I smell it, fresh air,” even through his mask, the Wasp Knight could scent the air… an air that didn’t belong to this plane.
Since the apocalypse had begun, everything within the city had come to a standstill, including the movement of the air.
The three Knights and the axe-wielding men all ran towards the direction of the city walls without prior agreement, while the Hawkeye Knight already stood atop the walls, gazing into the distance.
The far horizon was faintly reflecting the scenery belonging to the Tower of Trial’s plane.
“I… I think I can understand the feeling those vampires I used to hunt had towards… blood.”
The axe-wielding man looked at the Tower of Trial’s plane in the distance, filled with a bizarre impulse to storm into that plane and plunder everything in sight.
This feeling was akin to a fat otaku starved for a hundred years who, the moment he sees cola chicken, loses all reason in his mind, desiring only to stuff the food into his mouth, not thinking of anything else.
The Knights on the city walls shared the same thoughts as the axe-wielding man, their desire for the new world restlessly stirring within them.
“The scent of human beings from another world,” the red-clad Knight had already sensed the enemies they were about to face.
“Lord Lion Heart!”
“Lady Wasp…”
Even the living dead within the city who still held onto their consciousness had climbed the city walls at this moment, as the scenery of the Tower of Trial’s plane grew increasingly vivid in the distance.
“All units, prepare for battle,” the red-clad Knight shouted loudly to everyone, as cracks in space erupted on the distant horizon.
The plane of the Tower of Trial was now officially connected to this one, and the air of the two worlds intermingled at this moment, signaling that the battle for the Divine Fragment had officially begun.
“The enemy is here.” The long spear in the Lion Heart Knight’s hand burst with the sound of thunder as he intently watched the figures swarming through the temporal rift in the distance.
However, as Lion Heart Knight made out the appearance of those figures… the thunderous spear he had conjured disappeared, purely out of shock.
“Sea Blue Goddess above.” Someone among the living dead on the city walls blurted out without thinking.
Wasp Knight gave that person a glare, prompting him to close his mouth upon realizing he had unconsciously spoken blasphemy.
But what emerged from the temporal rift was truly… terrifying.
In place of the heavy armor battalions or alchemical machines that the Wasp Knight had imagined, she only saw ranks of rainbow unicorns, bears, and yetis mixed together.
What was this? A rainbow-unicorn Cavalry brigade? No, those weren’t real unicorns but merely headpieces.
A rainbow unicorn circus troupe? That wasn’t right either! The Wasp Knight observed that after entering the temporal rift, the first reaction of that group wasn’t to charge at the walls, but to gather together and curiously explore the surroundings as if on a picnic.
A rainbow unicorn tour group? The Wasp Knight felt these people weren’t here to fight, but seemed more like they had come to sightsee.
“They’re charging,” Lion Heart Knight interrupted the Wasp Knight’s wild imaginings, as a contingent of sanctified beings rode their mounts charging in the direction of the city walls.
Wasp Knight also faintly heard what they cried out during their charge, focusing intently… The enemy’s battle cry was…
“For Queen Mei!”
“???”
Three question marks appeared above Wasp Knight’s head as she doubted her own hearing, but mixed with those charging cries were bizarre battle cries like ‘For the new wife!’ ‘Shut up! Fureya is the main wife!’ ‘Then the second wife!’
What do you think?
