Secret Wealthy Marriage

Chapter 28 - 28 28 I Come to Propose Marriage

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: I Come to Propose Marriage Chapter 28: Chapter 28: I Come to Propose Marriage “You’re back? Where have you been?” Matilda Ferguson had just opened the door when she saw her aunt Ailin Ferguson, who immediately asked her.

Ailin was Matilda’s grandfather’s late-life daughter. Matilda’s father, Floyd Ferguson, was the eldest of three brothers in the family. Her grandfather had always hoped for a daughter, and when her parents got married, her mother became pregnant with her at the same time her grandmother gave birth to Ailin. As a result, Ailin was only nine months older than her, and their similar ages made them close to each other, despite their difference in generation.

Because they were close in age, Ailin and Matilda had the best relationship.

Ailin loved dancing as well, but due to her mother’s older age and her own premature birth, her body was not able to handle the physical demands of activities such as dancing or gymnastics.

Ailin was the only female of her generation in the family, and Matilda was the only female of the younger generation. As such, both women held a high status within the family. Their grandfather left all of his wealth to Ailin, who in turn, wholeheartedly supported Matilda’s passion for dancing.

Matilda didn’t let her family down. Her hard work and innate talent allowed her to excel in her field, and she was on the verge of achieving great success.

Especially since Matilda had started dating Bryan Hawkins, a dazzling young man. The Ferguson family was just an ordinary one, but everyone expected Matilda to elevate their status to that of the upper-class society once she married Bryan.

At this time, the Hawkins family was not the absolute top in G City, but they were indeed a prominent family along with the Carlson family. There were of course other powerful families, but their focus was on Bryan Hawkins.

Matilda was naturally beautiful, and her dancing background made her graceful and elegant. She was not only attractive but also full of charm. Many people had chased after her, but she had never been interested in anyone except Bryan.

Yet, fate played such a cruel joke on her, as Bryan suddenly got into an accident.

“Aunt Ailin, when did you get here?” Matilda forced a smile and talked to Ailin without answering her question, not wanting her family to know she had gone to see Bryan again.

She also kept the fact that Bryan’s grandmother didn’t like her a secret from her parents.

“Your father was worried you might do something foolish, so he sent me over.” Ailin didn’t hold Matilda’s evasiveness against her. In fact, they all knew what she had been up to, even if she didn’t say it.

Bryan’s car accident had already been reported in the news, and the Hawkins family’s planned initial public offering (IPO) had been cancelled as a result. The current situation was surely a delight to George Morris, the young master of the Morris family.

No one knew that the car accident was carefully planned by him. Even his pursuit of Matilda was part of his meticulous scheme. However, during this deliberate plot, he genuinely fell in love with Matilda.

Nowadays, Bryan had become disabled, which was something George hadn’t expected. He was surprised that Matilda, who had been raised in such a family, was still so loyal and devoted to Bryan. At this point, she was still willing to make sacrifices for him.

This woman truly had Bryan in her heart; otherwise, she wouldn’t have consistently rejected his advances. George had pursued her relentlessly, yet she remained unmoved.

Putting Bryan through such adversity was for the sake of securing Matilda and the family business.

Both the Hawkins and Morris families were in the hotel management business and were competitors. However, Bryan, who had studied abroad, was particularly skillful in managing hotels. Under his management, their hotel occupancy rates had plummeted, and the Hawkins family still had the audacity to attempt going public.

He would never allow them to succeed.

Since childhood, he had been unable to stand Bryan. No matter the aspect, he had always been overshadowed by him. But now, fortune seemed to favor him, and everything was going smoothly according to plan.

This was something he hadn’t anticipated.

“…” Matilda didn’t respond. Ever since Bryan’s accident, her parents had immediately objected to her continuing any contact with him, let alone the fact that he had become disabled.

Of course, her parents would be even less likely to approve now.

“You’re back?” Suddenly, a deep and slightly familiar male voice interrupted their conversation.

“Why is it you?” The sight of George Morris made Matilda feel nauseous.

If not for him insisting on taking her out for one last lunch together that day, promising that he would leave her alone afterward, she wouldn’t have lied and stood up Bryan.

However, when she thought George was a man of his word and agreed to go, they went to a western restaurant, and George got a private room. As soon as they entered, he became reckless, kissing her passionately and leaving a deep love bite on her exposed collarbone.

It was on this very day that Bryan suffered such a tragedy. Matilda couldn’t believe her misfortune – one, that Bryan could be so unlucky, and two, that when disaster struck Bryan, it was Carolline Ruiz who was by his side, and that woman even had the audacity to call and inform her.

“Don’t want to see me? I’m here to propose.” George didn’t mind the disgust in Matilda’s eyes, because he believed that anyone with a sound mind would choose him over the disabled Bryan.

If Matilda wasn’t smart enough to make that choice, Ailin and Floyd certainly were.

Thus, he was completely confident, especially since spreading news of his engagement to Matilda while Bryan was in this state would surely break Bryan for the rest of his life.

From then on, Bryan would never be able to rise again and challenge him.
