Chapter 29 - 29 29 It Cant Be You
Chapter 29: Chapter 29: It Can’t Be You Chapter 29: Chapter 29: It Can’t Be You “George Morris, you’re breaking your promise, aren’t you?” They’d agreed he wouldn’t bother her anymore, yet here he was, proposing marriage. What on earth did this man want?
Matilda Ferguson was infuriated. Whether at home or outside, except for when she was with Carolline Ruiz, she had never exposed her bad temper in front of anyone else. She always appeared gentle as water.
Not to mention, in the presence of her parents, she had completely thrown all her ladylike manners out the window.
She was truly angry. If George Morris hadn’t come to talk about this today, maybe she wouldn’t have been so furious.
Even so, Floyd Ferguson did not agree with his daughter’s unruly behavior. Let alone, this was the first time their daughter behaved so rudely in front of a guest.
Floyd Ferguson felt his dignity as a father was violated.
“Matilda, what are you saying?” As Floyd Ferguson’s serious and solemn voice rang out, Matilda Ferguson immediately realized she had been too presumptuous.
She shouldn’t speak to George Morris with such a tone in the presence of her parents. Even if George Morris were not her boyfriend, the latter had done favors to their family and he was their family’s benefactor.
“I’m sorry, dad.” In an instant, Matilda returned to her previous soft and warm temperament, her eyes shining.
Seeing her in such a delicate and vulnerable state made George Morris’s heart ache.
How could her father be so harsh to this outstanding woman? Truly too harsh.
“It’s okay, Matilda. No matter what you say to me, I’ll be happy. The worst thing is when you don’t want to talk to me at all,” George Morris generously stated. He truly wanted to protect Matilda.
If he didn’t genuinely like this woman, her parents wouldn’t mean anything to him.
“…” Matilda did not appreciate his sentiments at all, instead she gave him a cold look, “Dad, mom, auntie, and even you. Even if you think I’m being rude today, I have to say something. I could marry anyone, but it won’t be you.”
Today, her mother Ailin Ferguson had been summoned by her parents. She was aware of Bryan Hawkins’ current situation, it was almost impossible for her to be with him.
Yet, regardless of the outcome of her relationship with Bryan Hawkins, she would never get entangled with George Morris. She found this man utterly disgusting.
After speaking, Matilda ran upstairs without hesitation.
“This child has actually become like this. It would be better if she didn’t date at all,” Floyd Ferguson was infuriated. His daughter had always been obedient to him. They had previously thought Bryan Hawkins was quite good, but now, Bryan Hawkins was completely unsuitable for their daughter. He didn’t understand why she was still insisting on Bryan Hawkins.
Now, Floyd Ferguson admired George Morris more and more.
When Bryan Hawkins was fine, George Morris was always outperformed by him. But now that Bryan Hawkins was in trouble, George Morris was getting more and more popular, and it was only then that Floyd Ferguson realized the standing of the Morris Family in G City.
Especially since George Morris had promised that the Morris Family would go public within the next three years and definitely outrun the Hawkins Family.
He had great ambitions. Not only did he want to dominate the service industry market in G City in the future, but he also wanted to become the richest man in G City.
He planned to outdo the Hawkins, Carlson and Barkley Families, which were all ranked before the Morris Family.
“It’s okay, Mr. Ferguson. You don’t need to be too upset. When a man loves a woman, he should pamper her and tolerate all her good and bad qualities, shouldn’t he?” George Morris truly felt there was nothing wrong, “I think I should leave you now, let Matilda rest properly. I’ll come to visit you, Aunt and Auntie Emily another day.”
“George, you are really a good person,” Floyd Ferguson sighed with deep emotion. Without waiting for further comments, his daughter had already stormed upstairs.
“Let me walk you out, Mr. Morris,” Ailin Ferguson didn’t uphold the elder’s position and was referring to George Morris courteously as Mr. Morris. She had been planning to open a Tea House recently, and George Morris had proactively offered to help as she was short on capital. To her, George Morris was like a god of wealth, and she should serve him well.
Furthermore, George Morris really loved Matilda. Compared to Bryan Hawkins, the only drawback was that his appearance wasn’t as good. But a handsome face wasn’t edible.
At present, Bryan Hawkins was always accompanied by a wheelchair. Who knew whether his lower body had been damaged or not? If it had, then Matilda, who was still keen on getting close to him, what was the difference between her future life and living as a widow?
Therefore, from Ailin’s perspective, George Morris was currently the best and smartest choice for Matilda.
“Aunt Emily, you’re being too polite,” George Morris replied with a smile, “By the way, remember to come to my company tomorrow. I’ll instruct the finance department to prepare a cash check for you in advance.”
“Thank you, thank you,” Ailin Ferguson replied happily.
“Mr. Ferguson, Aunt, I’m leaving now. Don’t make things difficult for Matilda,” George Morris requested, still speaking for Matilda.
Floyd Ferguson nodded, naturally agreeing.
George Morris’s driver was waiting outside the Ferguson Residence. After getting into the car, he turned around to say goodbye to Ailin Ferguson. Once she was out of sight, he pulled out his phone from the inner pocket of his coat, dialed a number and said, “… go ahead.”
——
After leaving the Hawkins Family, Carolline Ruiz had gone to the City Sports Stadium to run until she was too exhausted to continue.
This was her way of venting her dissatisfaction. Every time she was in a bad mood, she would vent in different ways – sometimes binge eating and drinking, other times exercising frenziedly, and on other occasions sleeping excessively.
That being said, she rarely had bad moods.
When she returned to the Ruiz Family, Carolline Ruiz, soaked in sweat, rushed into the bathroom for a refreshing bath. By the time she came out, Emily Hill had already prepared dinner. Her father, Henry Ruiz, was also home. The couple did not probe Carolline Ruiz and remained tactfully reticent.
Carolline Ruiz devoured three bowls of rice. The couple went to the kitchen to clean up the dishes and then went for a stroll together. Carolline Ruiz relaxed on the couch.
She didn’t watch TV and didn’t think about anything. Her mind was blank, lost in a haze.
When Henry Ruiz and Emily Hill returned with barbecued food, the tantalizing aroma stirred up the cravings in Carolline Ruiz’s stomach, but she was still too full from dinner.
“Mom, dad, aren’t you guys being too mean? You know I ate too much at dinner.” Carolline Ruiz was somewhat resentful, but she still walked over and took a skewer of spare ribs from her father’s hand.
“It’s alright, just eat slowly. Come, have a drink with dad.” With that said, Emily went to the kitchen to get them some beers.
Without getting any cups, the father and daughter each held a beer can, opened the tab, and began chugging.
What do you think?
