She Asks for a Divorce Again

Chapter 26 - 26 Displaced Anger

Chapter 26: Chapter 26 Displaced Anger

Shen Heyu had grown accustomed to such incidents and quickly organized her thoughts. After thoroughly reviewing all the public relations cases, and compiling all the information on a film in need of investment, two hours had passed before she walked into Pei Yansi’s office with the investment documents in hand.

She pushed open the door and placed the documents on his desk, “Here’s a film investment, President Pei. If there aren’t any issues, you can sign off on it.”

Pei Yansi glanced at her and seeing she was still distant and all business, didn’t say anything but opened the documents to review them carefully.

Just as he opened them, the door to the lounge was pushed open. Shen Heyu turned to look, only to see Bai Sheng’er walking out.

This wasn’t the first time Bai Sheng’er had come out from there, and Shen Heyu quickly looked away, her expression remaining calm.

Pei Yansi noticed her unwavering composure and sneered inwardly. She really didn’t care about anything. He put down the document he was holding, turned to Bai Sheng’er, and asked, “What are you doing out here?”

...

Bai Sheng’er, her face flushed, glanced at Shen Heyu then timidly said, “I need to get back to work.”

Pei Yansi frowned upon hearing this, “Didn’t I tell you to rest properly? Go back and rest.”

Bai Sheng’er smiled sheepishly, her demeanor shy, “No need, I’m feeling much better now. I can’t delay my work.”

“Also, if the other colleagues see me, it wouldn’t be good. They might talk behind my back.”

“Who dares to talk about you when I am the boss?”

Pei Yansi’s voice was strong but laced with a thick, indulgent tone, causing Bai Sheng’er’s cheeks to redden again.

Shen Heyu watched the whole scene in silence, thinking Bai Sheng’er resembled a young girl in the throes of puppy love, blushing at even the slightest tease.

Such youthful times are indeed precious, no wonder Pei Yansi was so enchanted.

She withdrew her gaze from Bai Sheng’er and said to Pei Yansi, “President Pei, please review this as soon as possible. It is an important and urgent document.”

Their intimate moment was thus interrupted, and Pei Yansi looked up at her with a hint of a cold smirk before taking up a pen to sign his name.

He pushed the document away.

With great force, the document flew across the desk and fell to the floor.

Shen Heyuwei paused, glancing at him with calm eyes, then bent down to pick up the document and, as if nothing had happened, turned and left.

She had taken only a few steps when Pei Yansi’s icy voice called from behind, “Stop. Did I say you could leave?”

Shen Heyu’s footsteps halted, and she turned to look at him, “Does President Pei have any further instructions?”

Pei Yansi remained silent, his cold gaze sizing her up.

Noticing that her ring finger was lacking a ring.

He demanded she wear a ring every day, to present herself as a married woman to the outside world, yet he himself never wore one.

And she had no right to question it.

His eyes chilled slightly, his gaze shifting to her delicate face, “Where is the ring?”

When Shen Heyu heard him, she looked down to see her bare ring finger.

She spoke slowly, “It’s gone.”

Pei Yansi let out a sneer, a wedding ring that could be lost—that was convenient.

His voice was low and carried an understated threat, “Is it really lost, or did you take it off when you went to some other man’s home yesterday?”

It was neither lost early nor late, but just after a visit to Doctor Lu’s home.

Had it really been lost, or, worried about revealing her married status in front of another man, did she stealthily take it off and forget to put it back on?

Seeing his gaze grow colder, Shen Heyu had no intention of causing a scene with him at the company. She seriously said, “I lost it last night, I put it on the bedside table. I figured Bai Sheng’er might have seen where it went, so I gave her a call, but you interrupted me.”

“So until now, I don’t know where the ring has gone.”

Pei Yansi’s smile on his face deepened, but there was not a hint of smile in his eyes, as cold as ever, “You have to ask others about your own wedding ring?”

As Shen Heyu saw him like this, she also laughed, her veiled words suggesting he didn’t understand, so she plainly said, “What I mean is, Bai Sheng’er entered the master bedroom yesterday; it might have been taken by her.”

As the words fell, Bai Sheng’er’s face paled, she frantically looked towards Pei Yansi, her eyes quickly filling with tears, nervously saying, “I didn’t take it, President Pei, Director Shen’s wedding ring, what would I do with it…”

The tears in the corners of her eyes threatened to fall without dropping, hanging at the edges, creating a pitiable look.

Shen Heyu snickered in her heart.

With such posture, she could entice Pei Yansi into a daze.

Naturally, Pei Yansi would not think that Bai Sheng’er would steal anything, let alone such a thing.

He looked at Shen Heyu, “You could at least give a reason why she would steal your wedding ring.”

Shen Heyu remained silent and said nothing.

But she found his words ridiculously funny. If she knew why thieves stole or why criminals committed crimes, she could prevent evil from happening in this world.

Seeing she had no intention of replying, Pei Yansi’s patience was entirely lost, he said sharply to her, “You know what the ring represents, if you can’t find it… I think you wouldn’t want to know the consequences.”

Shen Heyu had always been strictly businesslike; a crack finally appeared on her expressionless face, she frowned and coldly said, “The wedding ring doesn’t belong to me alone, and I don’t have the sole duty to find it. After all, if it hadn’t been for you bringing questionable people home, it wouldn’t have disappeared.”

“Even if you go to Grandma about this, I will maintain the same story.”

Upon hearing her words, all expression drained from Pei Yansi’s face, his dark eyes boring into her as if trying to see right through her.

His gaze grew colder by the moment, the air pressure around him dropping to an extreme low, and for a long while, he didn’t speak. The atmosphere was almost frozen, as if ice flowers could form in the next second.

Shen Heyu’s scalp tingled under his gaze, but she stubbornly refused to speak first to show weakness.

At that moment, the office door was knocked on, someone came in with some documents, and upon entering, they sensed the awkward atmosphere. Then, seeing Bai Sheng’er’s tearful, almost crying visage, they looked as if they had been badly bullied.

The person realized something wasn’t quite right and quickly placed the documents in front of Pei Yansi, not daring to breathe too loudly, “President Pei, these documents need your signature.”

Pei Yansi picked up a pen and quickly signed his name, then closed the documents with a snap – his forceful action evidencing how angry he was.

The sound startled Bai Sheng’er at his side.

The person who brought the documents took the hint even more, hastily gathered them up, and left quickly.

Seeing this, Shen Heyu followed the person out, but as Pei Yansi saw her leaving again, he finally let out a cold laugh, his voice as chilling as if ice shards were about to fall, “Did I say you could go?”

Shen Heyu’s footsteps halted simultaneously with the person’s.

Pei Yansi said to the person, “You, get out.”

The person, as if pardoned, immediately ran off, and also cleverly closed the office door behind them.

Inside the office, silence descended once more.
