She Asks for a Divorce Again

Chapter 27 - 27 Criticism

Chapter 27: Chapter 27 Criticism

Shen Heyu dared not disobey and did not continue to leave, but she also did not take the initiative to speak; she just stood there quietly, defiantly meeting Pei Yansi’s gaze.

His lips curved slightly as he met her sharp eyes and he spoke in a chilly voice, “I’ll only say this once, the wedding ring is yours, and it’s a heirloom from Grandma specifically for the Pei Family’s daughter-in-law, so it’s your duty to find it.”

Seeing his serious expression, Shen Heyu made a concession, “I can go look for it, but the first place I will look is on Bai Sheng’er. If I can find it on her, proving she took it, I demand you use this as a reason to fire her from the company.”

Pei Yansi sneered. Was she taking this opportunity to get Bai Sheng’er away from him, or what?

But no matter what it was, it wasn’t something he was willing to accept.

He had long said she had no right to meddle in his personal life.

...

He said mockingly, “Shengsheng would not steal, you can’t look for it with her; that would be an insult to her.”

“Are you implying that I am deliberately framing her?”

“What else?” Pei Yansi smiled, his smile filled with intense irony, “For someone like you, what couldn’t you do?”

“What kind of person am I?”

Pei Yansi’s smile vanished, his voice turned icy: “You know best yourself.”

A person who didn’t even hesitate to harm her own sister.

He used Shen Fanshuang’s death to hurt her heart once again.

Shen Heyu felt like thousands of needles were piercing her heart, not just from recalling Shen Fanshuang’s death, but also from his slander and mistrust.

She suddenly laughed, a laugh touched with bleak resignation, “Anyway, to you, I’m just that kind of venomous woman. Since you believe her and not me, don’t expect me to be able to find the ring.”

Having said her piece, she did not hesitate any longer and walked away with decisive strides.

“Stop!”

Behind her came the man’s increasingly frosty, commanding voice, “You’ve grown bolder.”

But Shen Heyu didn’t pause; she continued to walk away, her high heels making a clacking sound on the floor.

She slammed the door shut with a loud bang, and the sound startled Bai Sheng’er, whose petite frame trembled, her eyes full of panic, looking utterly frightened.

Pei Yansi noticed her trembling and glanced at her with a gentle tone, “Don’t be afraid, she can’t hurt you.”

A warm current flowed into her heart.

Bai Sheng’er blinked, and the tears that she had initially held back now fell like broken strings of pearls rolling down her face.

She approached Pei Yansi and gently nestled in his arms; her frailty and wretchedness seemed to awaken the protective desire in a man. She clutched his tie tightly, appearing extremely frightened, “I did enter your room, but I really didn’t touch anything. I didn’t even see any ring…”

“Brother Yansi, why don’t you tell me what the ring looks like, perhaps I’ve seen it, so I can help Director Shen…”

“No need.”

Pei Yansi cut her off, noticing her long, jet-black hair hanging down to her waist, nearly shining with its darkness.

He reached out to touch it gently, the feel was smooth, and his fingertips retained a hint of fragrance, the same brand of shampoo that Shen Fanshuang had loved to use before.

She had coincidentally chosen the same one, and it was this familiar scent that had allowed him to notice her among the many interns in the first place.

Seeing her tears still falling non-stop, Pei Yansi wiped the tears off her face, his lips spreading into a gentle smile, and he said softly, “Don’t cry, there’s nothing to cry about. It has nothing to do with you, don’t worry about it.”

Bai Sheng’er nodded, her little nose red from crying, blinking, her innocent and harmless appearance pure like an animal, and she naively asked, “Then does Brother Yan Si believe me?”

Pei Yansi softly hummed an acknowledgment, his long fingers affectionately scratching the tip of her nose, “Of course, I believe Shengsheng.”

She then broke into a sweet smile.

Shen Heyu walked out of Pei Yansi’s office and upon returning to her department, overheard a colleague who had just been in there animatedly telling everyone something.

Getting closer, she heard the content.

“You guys have no idea. Bai Sheng’er looked like she was so bullied, President Pei’s face was as dark as a frying pan, and his gaze could kill thousands of soldiers!”

“That gaze was fixed on Director Shen, but she didn’t react at all! Her face was so calm! She didn’t even say a word. Can you believe her mental fortitude?”

“I was so scared I thought I was going to die, terrified that President Pei would take his anger out on me! I was scared to death…”

“…”

He was speaking with such fervor that, because he was facing away from the door, he didn’t notice Shen Heyu had walked in.

The other colleagues had all seen her enter and didn’t dare to alert him directly, so they all buried their heads and began to work.

Seeing this, the storyteller was somewhat confused, “What’s with you guys? Don’t you usually slack off? Now you guys have gossip and start playing the part of the diligent workers?”

“Whose master are you?”

A cool female voice arose beside his ear, and it took a moment for the man to realize, “Of course, I’m your…”

His words got stuck in his throat as he stiffly turned around to see Shen Heyu’s serene face, which nearly scared the soul out of him.

He almost lost his balance and fell to the ground if it wasn’t for the quick reaction of a colleague behind him who caught him.

Shen Heyu’s gaze fell upon him, and she spoke unhurriedly, “It’s working hours now. I hope you all know what should be done at what time.”

After saying this, she didn’t punish the colleague but turned and went straight back to her office.

However, once she sat down in the small, private space, she let out a heavy sigh, pressing her fingers against her brow in fatigue.

She hadn’t expected the company rumors to spread this fast.

It probably wouldn’t take long before Bai Sheng’er would become known to everyone as Pei Yansi’s girlfriend, right?

She lied if she said it didn’t affect her.

Especially after what happened in the office, many people would likely spin the story into her having wronged Bai Sheng’er, with Pei Yansi seeking justice for her…

Lost in thought, the office door was suddenly pushed open. Shen Heyu looked up to see Yun Duo.

Yun Duo was a very diligent worker who almost never made mistakes and had been serving as her assistant for many years. She was open and straightforward and, besides loving to gossip, had almost no faults.

On usual days, Shen Heyu was the closest to her in the company.

After entering, Yun Duo closed the door and gazed at her with a face full of curiosity, excitedly asking, “Director Shen, what happened in the office with Bai Sheng’er?”

“Did President Pei really scold you because of her?”

Shen Heyu inwardly let out a wry laugh, “Scold” was an understatement.

She didn’t want to bring up such matters and said to Yun Duo, “It’s working hours now. I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to come in and ask me about this.”

Yun Duo chirped cheerfully, “Come on, what’s our relationship? Also, I just wanted to come and comfort you!”
