Chapter 75: Chapter 75: The New Land
Shen Heyu took a deep breath upon hearing his words.
Looking into his eyes, as deep and icy as they had always been, she said, “Put me down. I can talk to you properly.”
Pei Yansi looked at her intently, as if discerning the truth in her words, before eventually placing her gently onto the sofa opposite him.
Knowing that she just had a miscarriage and must be feeling very uncomfortable, he made all his movements extremely gentle.
Shen Heyu felt very unaccustomed to this sudden tenderness from him.
After sitting down, she began, “That day, I was already feeling very unwell. But your Shengsheng called me, saying you were drunk and wanted me to pick you up. I still went.”
“Do you know why?”
“Because I thought, at least, we are husband and wife. That place is still your home. Going to pick you up and bring you home, I could do that. I endured my discomfort to fetch you. But I found out it was all a trap.”
“It was you who gave Bai Sheng’er the opportunity, the chance to set a trap for me, to pour abortion pills down my throat. The child was gone.”
“You gave someone else the chance to harm me and my child, regardless of whether the child was yours or not. I was disappointed, no, I was utterly hopeless.”
Shen Heyu suddenly gave a light laugh, “But now, there’s nothing left. The child is gone. The marriage is gone. We, are finished.”
She rose from the sofa, prepared to leave, and said to him faintly, “Let’s end our marriage.”
“As for Shen Fanshuang, the child, I won’t explain anything. After all, no one will ever believe me.”
After saying that, she turned and left, without looking back, just like the day they divorced.
He watched her retreating figure, replaying her words in his mind. It was he who gave others the opportunity, and she fell into the trap for herself.
Afterward, he hadn’t punished Bai Sheng’er in any way.
The life of a child was worth less to him than Bai Sheng’er.
That’s why she had become disappointed, or rather, completely hopeless.
In the end, he did not chase after her.
Shen Heyu returned to the VIP room where Shen Jiangli was waiting for her. Upon seeing her come in, he quickly stood to greet her, “Is everything alright?”
Shen Heyu shook her head, “What could possibly be wrong?” she said, smiling a little to prove it to herself.
However, this smile seemed strained to Shen Jiangli who saw pain behind her facade. His heart ached for her as he told her, “Sit down quickly, I’ll see what food we can find for you.”
She nodded and sat down on the sofa, her thoughts turning to Pei Yansi.
From now on, this place would become her most unbearable past.
She touched her abdomen, where, in fact, a little life still resided. She was just worried that Pei Yansi would not let go and Bai Sheng’er would not cease her pursuit, forcing her to lie that the child was already gone.
And in the hospital, the favor she needed from Shen Jiangli was to conceal the existence of this child.
The medical report that Zhao Jin had gotten was nothing but a forgery by Shen Jiangli.
They waited in the VIP room for an hour before starting to board the plane.
Their business-class seats were spacious, with many empty seats between them. As the plane took off, Shen Heyu watched the city recede away outside the window, and she felt herself drawing nearer to the clouds in the sky. In that moment, she seemed to taste the flavor of freedom.
From now on, she would bid farewell to the past.
She kept her hand protectively over her belly. The child was fragile, but the doctors had managed to clear the medicine from her stomach in time, saving the life of her child.
But she was too fragile, a slight misstep and she wouldn’t survive.
Shen Jiangli noticed her vulnerability and took care of her by his side.
Halfway through the flight, Shen Heyu was overtaken by sleepiness and dozed off in her seat, her head nodding off little by little, sleeping uneasily.
Seeing this, Shen Jiangli proactively moved closer to her, stroked her hair gently, and said with affection, “Lean on me to sleep. It’s more comfortable this way.”
Shen Heyu, in a semi-conscious state, didn’t think too much of it and rested her head on his shoulder, sleeping better than before.
Five hours later, the plane landed.
They were received immediately after disembarking; the Shen Family’s influence and business spread wide abroad, and he first took her to his own home.
Mr. Shen was thrilled to see his son return from abroad, bringing a woman home with him. He quickly, along with Mrs. Shen, welcomed Shen Heyu.
Hearing they shared the same surname, Mrs. Shen was even more delighted. She chuckled as she led Shen Heyu to her guest room, asking along the way, “Heyu, what a coincidence, right? We both have the surname Shen. In the future, your children with Jiangli will also be Shens.”
“Then you’ll have the feeling of your kids carrying your own surname!”
“…” Shen Heyu didn’t know how the conversation had drifted to talk of children and tried to explain, “Aunt Shen, we are not…”
“You’re thinking you don’t plan on having children, right? No worries, the desire comes with age. Here, this room is yours. You stay here for the time being. If you need anything at all, just let me know.”
Seeing her so enthusiastic, Shen Heyu ultimately didn’t say anything further, only waited for an appropriate opportunity to explain.
She said to Mrs. Shen, “Thank you, Aunt Shen.”
Mrs. Shen grew fonder of her the more she looked at her. “No need to thank me. Traveling must be tiring. You should rest first. I’ll call you when dinner is ready.”
Shen Heyu nodded in agreement but couldn’t help expressing her gratitude again.
After Mrs. Shen left, Shen Heyu took out her phone and checked her contacts. She had changed all her previous contact information, leaving only Lu Yunlan’s.
She knew Lu Yi held some feelings for her, and not wishing to waste his time on a relationship with no future, she didn’t keep his contact either.
Once she finished settling in, she called Lu Yunlan.
Lu Yunlan, on answering, was ecstatic. “You finally got a divorce! Long live divorce! But you left without telling me. I couldn’t even see you off!”
Shen Heyu chuckled, her cheerful voice transmitted through the phone, “I didn’t want too many people to know, especially Pei Yansi.”
“Did he come looking for you?”
“He did, but fortunately, he didn’t persist.”
Lu Yunlan laughed, “That’s good that he didn’t persist. Besides, someone like him couldn’t possibly cling like that. Let’s drop the subject of that jerk. Send me your address. I’ll definitely come visit you in a couple of days!”
Shen Heyu agreed with a smile and, after hanging up, sent her address to Lu Yunlan.
Shen Heyu slept till evening and woke up just in time for dinner. She descended the stairs to find Mr. and Mrs. Shen still warm and welcoming.
She clarified her relationship with Shen Jiangli at the dinner table. Mrs. Shen seemed disappointed upon hearing it, “I knew it, how could a young fellow like him catch a beauty like you!”
Hearing this blunt statement, Shen Heyu felt embarrassed.
Shen Jiangli smoothed things over, “It’s not that type of relationship now, but wait and see, maybe I’ll win her over soon?”
Mrs. Shen chuckled humorously.
Mr. Shen spoke seriously, “It’s good for you to be here, but Miss Shen should also pay attention to her work situation. Have you thought about what you want to do while you’re here?”
What do you think?
