Chapter 1390 1390: Ruins of Destruction (5)
The flames that Joan released were flames that were filled with divine energy.
The corruption energy, or rather the destruction energy, was the energy of the God of Destruction that opposed the order that the rest of the gods pursued.
In a sense, the divine energy was the mortal enemy of the destruction energy.
So it wasn't strange that the divine energy would search for the destruction energy to purify it.
That meant that if the flames that were filled with divine energy were heading for this certain staircase…it would mean that there was a larger amount of corruption energy that was down here compared to the other sets of stairs.
It meant that the Relic of Destruction was most likely at the bottom of the stairs.
Well, it wouldn't be right at the bottom of the stairs, but these stairs most likely led the way to the Relic of Destruction.
In that case, this was the path that we needed to take.
Since I had already made the decision to go down these stairs, that meant that the holy knights and priests didn't have any hesitation in clearing the way. They made sure that they were the first ones at the top of the stairs and the first ones that went down.
During this, the two popes made sure that I was safe.
They even looked like they were prepared to release a barrier of holy magic at any time with the way that they were standing.
It really was amazing that even two popes would be willing to stand guard for me, but there wasn't the time to be amazed by this. After all, there were bigger fish to fry.
With the holy knights and priests leading the way, they didn't have a problem clearing out the area.
Then once they finished clearing out the area and sent the signal back, that was when I was allowed to go down.
The popes were the ones that led the way for me.
With the way that they treated me, I also couldn't help feeling a bit suffocated since they were basically making sure that every little thing was taken care of. It seemed that they were planning on protecting me from everything…
In a sense, it was almost like how overprotective parents acted.
But we still reached the bottom of the stairs and saw what the rest of the ruins looked like.
It was a bunch of corridors.
Looking at the different corridors that were here, I was also able to see that there were some other sets of stairs that were connected. It seemed that all of them led down into this same space and were connected by the corridors.
Only with the way that the corridors were laid out, it seemed like some kind of labyrinth.
With this labyrinth in front of us, it really was hard to figure out where to go.
Though I could understand why there was this labyrinth in the first place.
I did hear a little bit about this place from the gods when they told me about where the Relics of Destruction were being held. This place was designed as a place to keep the Relic of Destruction safe, so other than the seal that suppressed the Relic of Destruction, there were other obstacles that prevented one from reaching the Relic of Destruction.
Namely, the labyrinth that was right in front of us.
This labyrinth was clearly designed to mislead anyone that reached this place, just so they wouldn't be able to reach the place that the Relic of Destruction was sealed in.
But now that we had to find the Relic of Destruction to secure it and protect it, this labyrinth actually got in our way.
"If only they could be more clear next time…" I couldn't help silently complaining about the gods as I looked at the corridors spread out in front of me.
I even felt that this complaint was quite familiar since this was a complaint that I had made several times now.
It felt like something that I had made every time that I met with the gods…
The rest of our group was naturally also confused about this place and it didn't take them long to realize that we were in a labyrinth.
The two popes turned to me and asked, "Where do we go now?"
I didn't say anything as I looked around at the different corridors, but eventually I just gave a shrug and said, "I have no idea."
Everyone looked at me with surprised looks before suddenly knitting their brows.
If even I didn't know where to go, it was only natural that they didn't know where to go.
That meant that to find the Relic of Destruction, we would have to wander around until we found something. Only to be wandering around in a place like this, that would be considered dangerous.
There was no telling what was hidden further in these ruins.
They all seemed to be hesitating on what to do next.
I was actually the only one that wasn't worried.
I had been worried at first when I saw that this place was a labyrinth, but then I figured out something that the others hadn't realized. As long as there was this thing guiding us, then it shouldn't be a problem to find the Relic of Destruction.
The only thing to worry about was to deal with the corruption energy that would be around the Relic of Destruction.
While everyone was worried, they didn't say anything as they waited for something.
The way that they looked at me, it was as if they were waiting for me to come up with an idea.
I figured that was the case since I had been the one leading the way until now.
But since I didn't say anything, the pope of the Solista Religion couldn't help asking in a worried voice, "Holy son, what should we do now?"
Right as he said this, there was a wave of flames that came rushing down the stairs.
What do you think?
