Concerned, one of them speculated, “Did that woman manage to escape?”

The other, feeling uneasy, frowned. “This—out in the middle of nowhere. How could she dare?”

While they weren’t overly anxious about their comrades, assuming they might have encountered wild animals, Madam Shao’s prolonged absence unsettled them. Both men regretted their confidence, realizing that if they had foreseen this, they wouldn’t have been so certain she wouldn’t dare to run. Someone should have shadowed her from a distance.
