Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 690 Repetition

After the Golden Colossus succeeded, more Nirvana Creatures rushed up the Jade Level, hoping to break into the gates of the Celestial Court.

However, most Nirvana Creatures perished upon the Jade Level, and very few could endure until the latter half. The only one who truly succeeded in pushing the door open was the Golden Colossus alone.

Lin Shen came to realize that the process of ascending the Jade Level was actually a process of self-improvement. Both the burning flames and the baptism of thunder and lightning were strengthening the bodies and power of the Nirvana Creatures.

If they could withstand it, there was a chance to ascend to immortality.

But most creatures couldn't, dying on the Jade Level.

The underlying reason was that they were not strong enough. Lin Shen found that those who ascended the Jade Level, the purer the Power of Nirvana, the higher the likelihood of withstanding the flames and thunder.

And to purify the Power of Nirvana, one had to undergo Nirvana multiple times to increase the degree of fusion between one's own particles and the Nirvana Attribute Particles.

But for Nirvana Creatures, this might be inconsequential; however, for humans to undergo Nirvana time and again, the chances of becoming something inhuman were too high.

Lin Shen thought these Nirvana Creatures were desperate to break into the Celestial Court to ascend to immortality.

But when an Undying Creature charged up the Jade Level, Lin Shen immediately realized he was wrong; these creatures' rush into the Celestial Court was probably not just for the simple purpose of ascending to immortality.

If it were just one or two Undying Creatures attempting to breach the Celestial Court gates, it could be understood, but then, continuously, more Undying Creatures charged inside the Celestial Court gates.

The divine positions they were granted were essentially the same, all Celestial Soldier's Divine Positions.

It wasn't until daylight that the great doors of the Celestial Court suddenly disappeared.

"Gone..." Wei Wufu said, pointing at Lin Shen's forehead.

Lin Shen knew what Wei Wufu was referring to. He took out his communicator to check, and indeed, the mountain-shaped mark on his forehead was gone.

There was smooth, white skin on his forehead without any color.

"This Mountain God Temple..." Lin Shen, observing his surroundings, was even more astonished.

They had stayed in the Mountain God Temple all night, only to realize in the light of day that the temple was in ruins, nearly a complete wreckage, with only the main hall still intact.

But the incense burner and candlesticks he had seen the day before were no longer there, and the offering table was also rotten, with fragments of clay scatter all over the ground.

What was even more bizarre was that the Clay Fetus God Statue, which had been shattered the day before, had somehow been restored to wholeness, but it was not on the altar. Instead, it hung from a black rope on the ceiling beam.

Lin Shen and Wei exchanged glances, each seeing the surprise in the other's eyes, unable to comprehend what was going on.

"Wei, I think we'd better find a way off this planet as soon as possible," Lin Shen said as he slowly stepped out of the Mountain God Temple.

The two of them revisited the site of the Golden Buddha Temple, only to find the same result: the temple was not there.

This was somewhat expected by Lin Shen; if the Golden Buddha Temple was unreliable, they would have to find another way.

They quickened their pace, searching the planet for a potential teleporter, passing many familiar temples along the way with no changes to them.

Leaving the familiar territory, they saw even more temples, merely looking around inside without daring to touch anything.

When night fell once again, they still had not found a way out.

The same formula, the same scent; in this night, they again had that sense of being watched by countless Bizarre Creatures.

Only this time, they chose not to enter any Temple, continuing their journey through the night.

Strangely, the Celestial Court and Jade Level reappeared, exactly at the same time as the previous day.

Then Lin Shen and Wei Wufu witnessed an unbelievable scene: once again, a Nine-tailed Jade Fox was the first to start climbing the Jade Level, its death exactly the same as yesterday.

"Wei, something's not right!" Lin Shen said, furrowing his brow.

"Not... right..." Wei Wufu repeated.

"The next one can't be the Green-scaled Giant Serpent, can it?" Lin Shen looked toward the Jade Level, and sure enough, a Green-scaled Giant Serpent rushed up the steps.

What followed was an incredibly magical spectacle, as Lin Shen and his companion watched the creatures assault the Jade Level all over again, just like yesterday.

It wasn't until the Golden Colossus appeared once more, ascended to immortality, and pushed open the doors of the Celestial Court that they could confirm that this was indeed the very scene they had witnessed yesterday.

"Wei, could we have traveled through time?" Lin Shen asked with an odd expression. Read exclusive adventures at My Virtual Library Empire

"Not... hungry..." Wei Wufu responded certainly.

"If you're hungry just say so, I have Ascension Liquid here." Lin Shen took out two vials of Ascension Liquid from his backpack for Wei Wufu, and while gazing at the repetition of the ascension to the Celestial Court in the sky, he thought aloud, "Could we have fallen for that Little Star's illusion? Are we inside an illusion right now?"

Psh!

Lin Shen only felt a pain in his arm, to see that Wei Wufu's knife had pierced right through it, with blood flowing down the blade.

"What are you doing?" Lin Shen stared dumbfounded at Wei Wufu, now even more certain that this was an illusion; otherwise, why would Wei Wufu attack him?

"Does it hurt?" Wei Wufu asked.

"It hurts," Lin Shen replied, still in a daze.

"Not... no illusion..." Wei Wufu pulled the knife out and sheathed it back.

Lin Shen was exasperated, "Why didn't you stab yourself?"

"You... recover... fast..." Wei Wufu said seriously.

Lin Shen had no words to retort; he could now be certain that this wasn't an illusion. Wei Wufu was too real, and it was impossible for both of them to be caught up in the same illusion, right?

"If it's not time travel or an illusion, then what the hell is going on here?" Lin Shen looked up at the scene in the sky, at a loss to guess what was actually happening.

Even as daylight broke, the two of them couldn't figure it out.

The only thing they could do was continue searching for a way out, but the planet was so vast, as they traveled, they found nothing but temples and temple ruins – no sight of a teleporter anywhere.

When night fell again, they watched the creatures assault the Celestial Court once more.

Lin Shen started to wonder if this might be a recording of some sort, played back using the Firmament Projection System.@@novelbin@@

But to call it a projection, the power and the fluctuations produced when those creatures attacked the Jade Level were definitely real.

The terrifying strength fluctuations unleashed by those Undying Creatures could be distinctly felt by them, which was surely beyond the capability of any projection.

"When I was young, I read a novel about a man who got stuck in the same day. No matter what he did, when he woke up, he would find himself back at the start of that day. Could it be possible that we're in a similar situation?" Lin Shen pondered.

Wei Wufu didn't speak but pointed to the communicator on Lin Shen's hand.

Lin Shen immediately felt outsmarted. Although the communicator had lost its signal, rendering it unable to access the celestial network or establish contact with others, the time on it kept ticking—and it hadn't stopped.

If they were trapped within the same day, time should have reset as well.
