Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Chapter 694 Entering the Celestial Court

Wei Wufu watched with a heart trembling in terror; to withstand such extent of injury, among the Ascenders, perhaps only Lin Shen could bear it.

Lin Shen stood before the Celestial Court's great doors. The triple Super Base Change had automatically ceased because the World's Force couldn't keep up with the consumption. He dared not release his Super Base Form, while the Super Base Pattern was still absorbing the power beyond this world. Super Base Recast was slowly repairing his wounded body.

Without the enhancement of Thunderfire, the Super Base Pattern absorbed the World's Force much slower than before. He wasn't sure if it was an illusion, but it felt like the speed of repair from the Super Base Recast had become particularly sluggish.

After a while, Lin Shen's body had largely recovered, with the carapace gradually returning to its original form.

Oddly, the carapace and the Super-Base changed body still retained that silver-black color, not reverting to the pure silver of before.

Even in the absence of Super Base Change, Lin Shen could still feel that his body's strength vastly exceeded that of normal times.

Now was not the time to ponder these things. With most of his body recovered, he reached out to push on the Celestial Court's great doors with all his might.

Unfortunately, as he had anticipated, the doors didn't budge.

The Celestial Court's doors, which only Immortal-Level strength could open, were simply beyond the power he possessed at the moment.

Even though the growth from Death Powder and the Boundless Strength Contract had provided him with a significant boost in strength attribute, compared to Immortal-Level strength, the difference was still so vast as to be negligible.

Seeing that he couldn't open the doors, Lin Shen could only clear his throat and shout, "I share a profound friendship with the Jade Emperor and have come to pay a visit. Please open the doors and let me in."

Lin Shen's words were true, for the Jade Emperor was his Guardian Spirit, with whom he indeed had a remarkably deep bond.

However, whether those terrifying beings within the Celestial Court would believe him was not something Lin Shen could control.

If those inside ignored him, then Lin Shen had no choice but to call upon the honorable name of the Jade Emperor and summon him forth.

Lin Shen waited for a while but heard not a single sound, so he called out several more times, still to no response.

"It seems I must summon the Jade Emperor," Lin Shen muttered dismally. A Guardian Spirit could be summoned only once; afterwards, there would be no more chances to use it, unless he could find those five Sacrificial Robes again.@@novelbin@@

He hadn't previously regarded the Guardian Spirit as particularly important, but having seen so many Undying Creatures rush into the Celestial Court, only to end up with the Celestial Soldier's Divine Position, he could imagine just how terrifying the Jade Emperor's power was.

Every minor figure within the Celestial Court was an Undying Creature. Lin Shen simply couldn't fathom the extent of the Jade Emperor's strength.

Just as Lin Shen was about to call out the Jade Emperor's venerable name, he heard a click; the great doors of the Celestial Court slowly opened.

"They're actually open..." Lin Shen was overwhelmed with surprise. Glancing back at Wei Wufu on the ground and seeing him nod, Lin Shen then proceeded towards the opening doors of the Celestial Court.

Clouds and mists swirled within the doors of the Celestial Court; from outside, one simply couldn't see what lay within.

After Lin Shen entered, the doors of the Celestial Court closed slowly on their own, segregating the two worlds.

Watching Lin Shen simply walk through the doors of the Celestial Court, a Nirvana creature with a human upper body and a serpent tail rushed up the Jade Steps.

Having forcefully endured the baptism of Thunderfire and reached the great doors of the Celestial Court, it imitated Lin Shen and shouted at the doors, "I too share a relationship with the Jade Emperor..."

Before he could finish his words, a violet thunderbolt fierce as a true dragon descended from the sky, directly turning him into flying ash, instantly terrifying the many enigmatic creatures into a tremor.

Lin Shen entered the Celestial Court, but all he saw was mist weaving around, a meandering, corridor-like Jade Bridge coming into his view.

The surrounding sea of clouds churned, while in the air, the mists swirled, the Jade Bridge undulated like a dragon in the sea, extending far into the distance, its end nowhere in sight.

Apart from this Jade Bridge, Lin Shen saw none of the pavilions, terraces, towers, and palaces he had seen on his last visit to the Celestial Court. It was as if he was not in the same place at all.

The undying creatures that had entered before him had also vanished without a trace—there wasn't a single person around.

"How strange, how can there not be a single person? Shouldn't there at least be someone to receive visitors?" Lin Shen wondered to himself, cleared his throat, and shouted into the sea of clouds, "I wish to meet the Jade Emperor, may I know which way to go?"

Silence, a dead silence, without any sound.

Lin Shen called out a few more times, but still no sound came in reply.

This time Lin Shen waited a long while, but with no movement at all, he could only proceed along the Jade Bridge.

This was the only path, so there was no need to worry about taking a wrong turn.

Lin Shen followed the Jade Bridge ever forward, his steps quickening, the bridge proving to be longer than he had imagined. With all his strength, Lin Shen sprinted along the Jade Bridge. After running for half a day, he still couldn't see its end, nor any other structures.

Even at Lin Shen's current speed, such a long time should have been enough to circle a massive star like Giant Ring Star—yet the end of the Jade Bridge was still out of reach.

Lin Shen stopped, standing at a higher point on the bridge to take a thorough look around, but still, he saw nothing, not even the gate to the Celestial Court through which he had entered.

Standing next to the white jade railings, Lin Shen peered down at the sea of clouds below.

This glance made his face change color dramatically.

Amidst the rolling clouds, the arches of the bridge appeared faintly visible, and on one of those arches, a figure gently swayed with the tumbling clouds. It was startlingly a suspended corpse between the bridge arches.

Upon closer inspection, Lin Shen realized it wasn't a corpse at all, but a vividly lifelike white jade statue.

The white jade statue depicted a character resembling a fairy, originally quite beautiful, but with a red rope tied around its neck, hanging in the middle of the bridge arch. Its intermittent visibility among the mists indeed looked somewhat frightening.

"Why is this place just like the temple, filled with bizarre things…" With a thought, Lin Shen moved to another bridge arch to peer below.

As he had guessed, each bridge arch was adorned with a white jade statue, each one depicting a different figure.

Some were oddly shaped, others as beautiful as flowers, but no matter how well carved, their suspension in such a place gave off an unnerving vibe.

"I don't know how long the Jade Bridge is, but there's a bridge arch every few hundred meters, and I don't know how many I have passed. If there's a white jade statue hanging under each arch, just how many would there be? Who would hang so many white jade statues here?" Lin Shen's expression was complex. He dared not touch those white jade statues for fear of triggering some taboo, much like the clay fetus god statues in the temple.

"This place doesn't look anything like the Celestial Court I've visited before… What on earth is going on…" Full of doubts, Lin Shen knew he couldn't just wait there and had no choice but to continue sprinting along the Jade Bridge.
