Chapter 964: Chapter 964: Each Harboring Ulterior Motives
The Chaos Bell actually started vibrating on its own, which startled Lin Shen.
If this thing has its own consciousness and can recognize its master, then Duo, the master, might be able to sense its presence.
If Duo came over now and saw this scene, Lin Shen would find it extremely difficult to talk his way out of it, even if he had mouths all over his body.
Lin Shen reached out to grab the Chaos Bell and held it tightly, trying to make it stop vibrating.
Lin Shen didn’t have much hope initially, but to his surprise, the bell actually stopped vibrating.
Lin Shen breathed a sigh of relief, loosening his grip to wipe off non-existent cold sweat.
He lifted his hand and discovered that the Chaos Bell seemed to be stuck to his hand. Lin Shen shook it, and yet, he couldn’t shake off the Chaos Bell.
He used the other hand to take it off easily, but when he tried to put the bell down, it got stuck to this hand as well.
Lin Shen tried every method he could think of but couldn’t shake the bell off.
The Chaos Bell stuck to him like a dog skin plaster. He could move it easily using any part of his body,
but he could not shake it off, nor could anything else pry it off. Lin Shen was sweating profusely in desperation.
Lin Shen even used Pig Dragon Scissors, hoping to cut off the Chaos Bell. Yet, it didn’t receive even a scratch, completely useless.
Gritting his teeth, Lin Shen decided to forcefully pinch off the skin touching the Chaos Bell. Since he only held the bell with two fingers, cutting off a bit of skin on them shouldn’t be a problem.
Holding the scissors close to where his skin connected with the Chaos Bell, he snipped at the skin on his finger. The skin was indeed cut.
Bleeding a little wasn’t much of a concern to Lin Shen. Using the Super-Base Recasting Skill, the injury healed in moments.
Lin Shen went on to cut the skin on another finger, cleanly cutting it as well.
With two patches of skin attached, the Chaos Bell finally separated from Lin Shen’s body and dropped to the ground.
As Lin Shen was pondering how to handle it, he saw his skin and some blood strands bizarrely dissolve.
They melted, like snow into water. The skin and blood turned into liquid, while the seemingly iron-like Chaos Bell absorbed the liquid like a sponge.
The next second, Lin Shen saw the letters on the Chaos Bell turn blood red, and the originally iron-black material started emitting a bloody scent, giving off an ominous and sinister feeling.
Suddenly, the Chaos Bell disintegrated, transforming into countless black-red particles, which flew towards Lin Shen’s body.
Lin Shen had already formed a Carapace to defend himself, but those black-red particles still charged into his body and disappeared in an instant.
“This is ludicrous, what’s going on?” Lin Shen sensed his body, unable to detect where those black-red particles had gone, his face quickly changing with uncertainty.
One could tell at a glance that the Chaos Bell was no ordinary object. With this thing inside him, Lin Shen didn’t know whether it was a blessing or a curse.
Lin Shen tried many tricks but still couldn’t figure out where the black-red particles transformed from the Chaos Bell had gone to. He could only go through the Space Capsule again to see if there was any manual or something.
Knowing the origins of the Chaos Bell might just be the key to dealing with it.
What frustrated Lin Shen was that there was nothing else inside the space capsule; in such a large space, only a few items were stored.
Lin Shen studied how to use the space capsule, but couldn’t figure it out; he guessed that only the person bound to it could open and close it, so he could only collect the space capsule and its contents for now.
The space capsule couldn’t be placed into his Spatial Device, it could only be carried in his pocket; the other items Lin Shen stored in his own Spatial Device.
When preparing to return, Lin Shen hesitated for a moment, took out the space capsule, and stuffed it into a crevice.
Lin Shen was already very familiar with this area; although the crevice wasn’t big, it was somewhat deep below, so once stuffed in, it likely wouldn’t be found again.
After all this, Lin Shen went back as if nothing had happened.
Actually, he really didn’t want to take these things; they seemed useless, and he didn’t get any of the information he wanted.
Back at the camp, he saw Xiaoyu playing with a few Little White Tigers, with Little White Tiger particularly enjoying the play, seemingly very happy.
Duo sat alone on a rock, staring blankly into space, seemingly lost in thought.
Hearing footsteps, Duo looked up, saw Lin Shen, and with a complex expression said, “Tian, I have a favor to ask of you.”
“What is it?” Lin Shen asked.
“I think we should leave here as soon as possible, but because of my injuries, my memory is a bit problematic, so I need your help; I’d like you to accompany me home,” Duo paused, then added, “Of course, I won’t let you go unrewarded; you’ll receive ample compensation, or you can state any conditions you have.”
Hearing this, Lin Shen was delighted; he was worrying about how to bring up leaving with Duo, and unexpectedly, Duo had proactively offered to take him along—a great stroke of luck indeed.
As long as he left the planet with Duo, without the strong gravitational force bothersome there, he could use a mechanical watch to teleport away.
“You saved my life; no need to talk about compensation with me. Your matters are my matters; I will definitely help you,” Lin Shen said righteously.
“That’s wonderful; you really are a good person. I think we could become really good friends, right?”
“That’s for sure; we are already good friends.”
Lin Shen and Duo exchanged smiles, each with an unreadable gleam in their eyes.
Lin Shen thought he had gained a great advantage, feeling somewhat guilty about using Duo.
Little did he know, Duo also had similar thoughts, but she didn’t feel guilty at all.
At this moment, Duo was no longer the original Duo; deep in her eyes shimmered a strange, purple hue.
That was the purple of the Butterfly Lady, the body was still Duo’s, but the soul controlling it was no longer hers.
So the current Duo didn’t possess any of Duo’s memories, knew nothing about Duo, and didn’t understand much about Divine Beings; she drew Lin Shen close merely to use him to speed up her understanding about Divine Beings and Duo.
Little did she know, Lin Shen was more clueless, knowing even less about Duo and Divine Beings than she did.
Two schemers, each thinking they had outsmarted the other.
What do you think?
