Chapter 236 Where Is She?
The night air was cool, carrying the distant hum of music and laughter from below.
Hugo and Collins leaned over the balcony railing, their eyes locked onto the street outside the party house.
They looked like two extremely serious snipers about to pull off the world's greatest hit as they peeped out the window. Read latest chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
There—moving like two athletes on a mission—a pair of stunning twin girls rushed out, their long legs carrying them straight to a waiting taxi.
They practically dove inside, slamming the door shut behind them as if the hounds of hell were on their heels.
Within a few seconds, the car sped off. The two girls didn't even look back!
Silence.
Then—
Sigh.
Hugo and Collins exhaled at the exact same time, their bodies deflating like two overused balloons.
They sat at the edge of the bed and took a few deep breaths to calm down their pounding hearts.
And then...
They began to laugh.
Collins turned to Hugo, wiping imaginary sweat off his forehead. "Bro… I swear on my future children, we are never speaking about tonight again."
Hugo snorted sarcastically. "Are you kidding? I'm getting this printed on a t-shirt."
Collins shook his head dramatically. "You better not. This was all your fault."
Hugo stared at him in disbelief, clutching his chest as if he had been hit by a physical attack. "MY FAULT?!"
Collins pointed at him like a lawyer about to present evidence in court.
"Yeah! Who's the one collecting girls like Pokémon cards? Huh? Who's the one with so many love interests that we had to LIE, BRIBE, AND COMMIT FRAUD just to survive tonight?"
Hugo's jaw dropped. "Are you actually insane? Who sent invites to every single person with a pulse?! You literally turned this house into the Olympics of Hugo's Targets!"
Collins waved his hand dismissively. "Details, details."
Hugo crossed his arms, staring into space. "We almost DIED."
Collins shrugged. "We survived, didn't we?"
Hugo sighed. "Barely."
Still, they had managed to pull off the impossible. With a carefully selected networking and a few white lies, they had eliminated all obstacles!
They stared at each other for a moment.
Then—
More laughter.
It was so ridiculous, they couldn't help it.
The night had been a battlefield, a warzone, a survival game. And somehow, against all odds, they were still standing.
But there was no time to celebrate. That could wait for later. They still had unfinished business to settle!
Hugo straightened up. "Alright, I gotta go."
Collins smirked. "Gonna go find your beloved target?"
Hugo pointed a finger in his face. "You say that like it's funny, but if she's dancing with some other guy right now, I will actually die."
Collins patted his shoulder. "Good luck, soldier. I, meanwhile, shall be returning to my lovely Asian beauty."
Hugo rolled his eyes but didn't argue. They exchanged a silent fist bump and turned to the door.
Then they both rushed out of the room. Collins made a beeline for his girl.
Hugo went straight to the dance floor.
—
As he descended the stairs, Hugo's mind was a hurricane of anxiety. His thoughts were spiraling out of control.
What if Celine was already with another guy?
What if she was currently slow dancing in someone else's arms, whispering sweet nothings into his ear?
What if some cursed jerk had his hands placed on her delicate waist and her voluptuous figure in his arms?
What if—oh god—what if she was laughing at another dude's terrible jokes?
No.
No.
Hugo shook his head violently.
'I refuse. I REJECT THIS REALITY!'
He hadn't survived a night of absolute chaos just to lose her at the last second!
If he got down there and saw her pressed up against some random dude, he was suplexing someone on sight.
Unless the dude was somehow 6'5 and just as wide.
Soon, he reached the dance floor. The crowd was thick, the music loud, and the lights flashing like a seizure warning.
Hugo scanned the room.
Left.
Right.
No Celine. His heart sank.
No. No, no, no, NO.
It was happening. She was already gone!
She was probably wrapped around some guy's arm, giggling, smiling, falling in love.
Hugo clenched his fists. 'I should've just focused on her from the start!'
Why did he have to deal with Loli? Why did Lily and Tily have to show up? Why did fate hate him so much?!
Just as he was about to collapse to his knees and scream to the heavens—
He saw her.
Or at least, he thought he did.
A short, round girl stood near the edge of the dance floor. Hugo's heart leapt with joy.
Gatekeeper!
Celine's loyal (and terrifying) best friend! If anyone knew where Celine was, it was her.
Hugo rushed forward, pushing past sweaty dancers and dodging elbows.
"Gatekeeper!" he called. "Where's Celine?!"
The short girl turned to face him, eyes widening.
But something was off. As he got closer, he realized—
That wasn't Gatekeeper. That was just a random girl who looked like her from the back due to her size.
Hugo nearly collapsed. 'I CAN'T TRUST MY OWN EYES ANYMORE.'
Before he could spiral further, a familiar voice called out—
"Hugo?"
He turned. And there she was. The real Gatekeeper.@@novelbin@@
Hugo rushed over. "Thank god, you're here!"
Gatekeeper squinted at him. "Wait… you're not with Celine?"
Hugo frowned. "No? That's why I'm asking you! Where is she?!"
Gatekeeper crossed her arms. "You're seriously telling me you haven't seen her?"
Hugo's heart started pounding. "Why? What happened?"
Gatekeeper narrowed her eyes. "I thought you two sneaked off to do something… evil."
Hugo froze. His brain stopped working. His soul left his body.
"…Excuse me, what?!"
Gatekeeper raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, she disappeared and I just assumed you dragged her away for some nonsense."
Hugo's mind exploded.
WHERE THE HELL IS CELINE?!
