Chapter 238 Wanna Find Out?
Hugo stared at his phone, his fingers trembling over the dial button as if he were about to detonate a nuclear bomb.
His entire body screamed at him to stop, to turn back, to pretend he never asked Celine how he could make it up to her.
But no.
He had asked. And Celine, the wicked devil in disguise, had smiled sweetly and said: "Call your mom and tell her you got someone pregnant."
Hugo wanted to cry.
Right now, he was sitting across from Celine at the poolside, the cool night breeze doing absolutely nothing to soothe his suffering soul.
She sat there, lounging like a goddess, drinking straight from a bottle of wine, her eyes twinkling with pure, unfiltered evil.
"I just don't see why this is necessary," Hugo muttered, gripping his phone like it was his last lifeline.
Celine tilted her head, grinning. "Oh? You're not chickening out, are you?"
"Chickening out?!" Hugo scoffed, though his voice cracked halfway.
"Celine, my mom once chased my uncle across the yard with a frying pan for forgetting her birthday. If I tell her I got someone pregnant, she will fly here, find me, and end my bloodline."
"Well," Celine said, taking another sip of wine. "I guess that means you better choose your words carefully."
Hugo let out the longest, most suffering sigh known to mankind. He closed his eyes, muttered a quick prayer to whatever god had abandoned him, and pressed CALL.
The phone rang.
And rang.
And rang.
Then—
Click.
"Hugo, sweetie!" His mom's cheerful voice rang through the speaker. "How are you, hon? Are you eating properly? Did you drink enough water?"
Hugo felt a lump of regret clog his throat. This was his MOM.
The woman who birthed him, raised him, gave him life—and he was about to destroy her entire mental stability in under five seconds.
But it was too late now. He took a deep breath and dropped the bomb.
"Mom… you're going to be a grandma."
Silence.
Not even static noise. Just an eerie, abyss-like void of nothingness.
Then—
"YOU WHAT?!?!"
Hugo flinched so hard he almost dropped the phone into the pool.
Celine was already wheezing, covering her mouth as she desperately tried not to spit out her wine.
"WHOSE DAUGHTER DID YOU RUIN?!" his mom screeched. "HUGO, I RAISED YOU BETTER THAN THIS!!"
"Mom, listen, it's—it's not what it sounds like—"
"IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE ABOUT TO BE BURIED SIX FEET UNDER!!"
Hugo's entire soul evacuated his body. His ancestors were looking down from the heavens, shaking their heads in disappointment.
He wanted to dig a hole, crawl into it, and never return.
"It—it was an accident," Hugo stammered, gripping his forehead in pain. "I didn't mean to—"
"YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO WHAT, HUGO?! FALL INTO SOMEONE?!"
Celine was full-on crying with laughter now, pounding the chair like a lunatic.
"WHO IS THE GIRL?!" his mom demanded. "I need her name! Her family! I'M GOING TO FIX THIS!"
Fix this?! Was she seriously about to call up a random girl's family and arrange a marriage contract?!
Hugo was on the verge of a breakdown. He needed to abort this mission before his mom booked a flight.
"Mom, listen!" he yelped. "I—I was joking! It's not real!"
Another silence.
Then—
"You're not serious?" his mom said, voice low and dangerous.
"N-No."
"You're absolutely sure?"
"Yes! I swear!"
His mom went silent for another five seconds. Then, in the calmest voice he'd ever heard, she said:
"…You're dead to me."
Click.
The call ended.
Hugo stared at his phone, horrified beyond words.
Celine? Celine was gasping for air, clutching her stomach, her entire body shaking as she cackled like a hyena.
Hugo looked at her, his soul hollowed out.
"Did you have fun?" he asked flatly.
Celine wiped a tear from the corner of her eye and exhaled deeply. "That was the best thing I've ever witnessed."
Hugo groaned, slumping onto the chair beside her. "I can never go home again."
Celine smirked, tilting her head. "Oh, relax. Your mom still loves you."
"She just disowned me, Celine!"
"Eh, she'll get over it."
Hugo sighed dramatically before giving her a pointed look.
"Fine. You had your fun. But I have a question for you."
Celine raised a brow. "Oh?"
Hugo crossed his arms, leaning in slightly. "Do you really have a boyfriend?"
Celine blinked. Then, to his relief, she smiled. "Nope."
Hugo sighed in relief, muttering under his breath. "Thank god."
Celine smirked. "What, you were worried?"
"I don't know, Celine," Hugo muttered. "Maybe because a few minutes ago you made me destroy my relationship with my mother, and I'd like to think I at least did that for a single woman."
Celine laughed, shaking her head. "Oh, don't be dramatic. Besides, you're not my type."
Hugo frowned. "Oh? And what kind of guys do you like?"
Celine tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Well… I like guys who are tall. Mysterious. Brooding. Maybe a little dangerous."
Hugo deadpanned. That was literally the opposite of him!

His eye twitched. He could feel the wheels in his brain turning. Then, just as fast, his lips curled into a slow, devilish smirk.
"Ahhh, I see," Hugo said smoothly, shifting in his seat. "So you like a little danger, huh?"
Celine raised a brow, suddenly wary. "Uh, yeah?"
Hugo casually leaned in, closing the distance between them, his voice dropping to a deep, dangerously smooth tone.
Did she think he couldn't be dangerous as well?
He could!@@novelbin@@
He'd watched dozens of movies!
"Then I guess… you're not ready for a guy like me."
Celine blinked. Twice.
For the first time that night, she looked caught off guard.
A faint blush dusted her cheeks. "Huh?"
Hugo smirked, his gaze unwavering.
"Wanna find out?"
