Chapter 5 – Out and about, safety comes first

Half a month later, in a mountain forest where the hills undulated and the woods stretched endlessly, the roars of wild beasts could be heard from the depths.

Swoosh!

With a swing of the Mountain-axing axe, blood splattered as a brown bear fell dead on the spot. Sparks flew as a large pot was set up and water boiled, ready for a feast.

"Bull, what do you think of my unparalleled axe technique?" Chen Xun shook the axe in his hand, looking towards Black Bull.

Moo!

Black Bull let out a perfunctory moo, busy scraping the ground with his hooves to bury the bloodstains. When out and about, safety always came first.

"What inhuman strength!"

Chen Xun clenched his fist, continuously exclaiming as he thought about how he had knocked the brown bear unconscious with a single punch, breaking several of its ribs.

Man and bull sat around the pot, heartily enjoying the meal. The wild game was simply delicious and satisfying to eat.

"Bull, even though we possess inhuman strength, you've seen it yourself, damn it, there are cultivators around."

Chen Xun munched on the bear's paw, clicking his tongue, "Don't act rashly in any situation. Those who seem unremarkable might turn out to be some old monsters."

Moo.

Black Bull responded, understanding and savoring the meal.

"We must destroy all traces even when we kill a chicken in the wild, leaving no evidence behind."

"Moo?"

"Because behind it, there might be a flock of chickens that could find us by the scent."

"Moo?"

Black Bull still didn't understand, dropping a piece of meat from its mouth and hastily picking it up from the ground.

"Do you think a flock of chickens is nothing to worry about? Just kill them, right?" Chen Xun scoffed, his mouth greasy.

"Moo." Black Bull nodded.

"What if those chickens are raised by cultivators?"

Chen Xun spoke mysteriously, "Wouldn't they come looking for trouble?"

"Moo!"

"And if we beat those cultivators, wouldn't their masters come after us?"

"Moo! Moo!" Black Bull was stunned, the logic was too sound.

"In the end, because of a single chicken, we might trigger a sect war. How many can we fight?"

Chen Xun raised an eyebrow, tearing at the bear meat, "If we're not careful and get killed, how many heifers would miss out?"

"Moo!~~"

Black Bull had an epiphany, its large, bell-like eyes shining with admiration for Chen Xun, like the endless flow of a mighty river.

"A teachable lad."

Chen Xun praised with a smile, liking Black Bull's expression, "So in the future, be cautious in all you do, and don't be sloppy."

"Moo!" Black Bull nodded.

"Now comes the question."

Chen Xun's expression turned serious, "If a young heifer confronts a cultivator over a spiritual herb, and a battle is imminent, what should be done?"

"Answer one, play the hero and save the beauty, for who else but me?"

"Answer two, side with the stronger party, bully the weak, and protect oneself."

"Answer three, act as if nothing happened, quietly pass by, avoid karma."

"Answer four, with my invincibility, all must die, the spiritual herb is mine."

"Please answer."

Chen Xun's deep pupils fixed on Black Bull, who broke out in a nervous sweat, faced with a difficult question.

Black Bull struggled internally, how could it stand by and watch a young heifer fall into enemy hands? It made up its mind: "Moo!"

"Answer one, huh? Wrong!"

Chen Xun sneered, "How could a young heifer compete with a cultivator? If you rush forward, you'll just add another corpse."

"Moo, moo."

"You chose the second, a grave mistake."

Chen Xun narrowed his eyes slightly, explaining, "Knowing that it's a fight over a spiritual herb, the more who know, the greater the risk. After dealing with the enemy, the cultivator won't spare you."

Black Bull's pupils shrank, sweating more profusely, it had already 'died' twice: "Moo, moo, moo!"

"Hahaha, you chose the third, even more wrong."

Chen Xun laughed wildly, his eyes cold, "In this world without laws, without strength, you can never be sure you won't be discovered. They will kill you, thinking you're a cow looking for an easy gain."

Black Bull collapsed, frightened by Chen Xun, a heavy breath spraying onto the ground: "Moo, moo, moo, moo!"

"Unexpectedly, you chose answer four."

Chen Xun slowly stood up, his face shrouded in shadow, and Black Bull suddenly felt insignificant. It collapsed, fearing it had 'died' again...

"Congratulations..."@@novelbin@@

"Moo?!"

Black Bull suddenly felt strength returning to its body, its legs lifting, hope igniting in its eyes. Could it be that it had finally answered correctly and was about to be revived?

Chen Xun's pupils slowly widened, looking down at Black Bull, and laughed deeply, "You chose the most tragic death, Bull, die!"

Moo~~!!

Black Bull's eyes glazed over, and with a thud, a cloud of dust rose as it collapsed, realizing it had gotten everything wrong...

After a while, Black Bull thought something was amiss. How could all the answers be wrong? The more it thought, the more it felt tricked, looking at Chen Xun who was still eating bear's paw.

Moo!!!

"Damn..."

Chen Xun was suddenly sent flying into the sky, still clutching the bear's paw, feeling the breeze and... seeing a group of people fighting in the distance.

His eyes narrowed, he landed firmly, creating two large craters. Black Bull continued to devour the bear meat and soup, seemingly unwilling to share with Chen Xun.

"Bull, pack up, there's a fight nearby." Chen Xun spoke earnestly, patting it.

Moo!

Black Bull responded, knowing Chen Xun never joked with that expression. They packed the meat, dug holes, and buried the traces with practiced ease.

Chen Xun led Black Bull away like a farm boy, walking in the opposite direction without a word.

From the sky above, three figures crossed through the trees, rustling sounds in their wake. Below, Chen Xun and Black Bull walked listlessly, unremarkable and lifeless.

One of the figures suddenly stopped, his black hair flowing behind him, squinting down at the young man.

"Hold on."

A voice came from the trees, Chen Xun tensed up, Black Bull's breathing quieted, hooves ready to spring into action.

The man jumped down from the tree, sizing up Chen Xun, "Did you see what happened ahead?"

Chen Xun was startled, breaking out in a cold sweat, bowing, "Greetings, senior, what happened?"

He couldn't tell if the man was a cultivator or a martial arts expert, nor did he know how many people were nearby. It was best to play it safe.

The man glanced at Chen Xun's hands, free of calluses, clearly not a martial artist, and then said, "Understood, leave the bull behind."

This Black Bull was large and muscular, its flesh beneficial for martial artists.

"Senior... this is the only bull I have. You clearly are a martial arts expert, there's no need to rob me of my bull."

Chen Xun's face turned pale, his fingers trembling, his performance absolutely convincing.

Swoosh.

The man drew his sword, his gaze sharp, sneering, "I, from the Iron Sect, am not so destitute. I don't want to waste words."

"Alright, fine." Chen Xun let go of the bull's rope, looking despondently at Black Bull, inwardly noting that the man was not a cultivator.

The man took the rope, then suddenly smiled, "You saw it, didn't you? This is no place for grazing cattle."

"Suspicious behavior, it's just your bad luck."

The man turned his back to Black Bull, speaking to Chen Xun, having seen through everything. This person was very likely a spy.
