Chapter 49: Chapter 49 The bed creaked and creaked all night long
Zhou Yu didn’t wait for him to react, jumped in the car, and sped away with the engine roaring.
Huo Xingzhou looked down and his face darkened.
The small packaging box looked high-end and luxurious, yet it was printed with a common slogan: “Happy Wife, Happy Life, happiness only comes when the wife is satisfied!”
He flipped to the back, and the slogan was even more unbearable.
It read: “Promising one thing and delivering another, mastering the art of pleasing the wife.”
Huo Xingzhou’s eyes were shadowed, with a chill emanating from around him.
...
Where did this substandard product come from!
“Mr. Huo!” Qiao Xi came out following his voice, “Has young master Zhou left?”
Huo Xingzhou placed the small packaging box into his suit pocket and spoke upon seeing her pure and bright face, “He’s gone.”
Qiao Xi approached and, seeing his dark expression, asked worriedly, “Are you not adjusting well to the countryside?”
“No, it was that idiot Zhou Yu who did something bad.”
Huo Xingzhou spoke indifferently.
Qiao Xi pushed his wheelchair into the house, “He’s quite nice, enthusiastic and talkative. My grandma talked with him all day and has already fallen asleep.”
After a moment of hesitation, Qiao Xi said, “Our house is simple, there’s only one clean room left. If you mind, I can lay out a sleeping mat.”
The Qiao family’s small tile-roofed house was a bungalow.
The other rooms were used for storage, only her and her grandmother’s rooms were clean.
Huo Xingzhou looked up at her, “I don’t mind, it’s not the first time.”
At home, they also had…
Qiao Xi’s eyes dodged, those two times were accidents, once drunk, and once she fell asleep exhausted.
“I’m going to get some water to wipe you down, then apply the medicine.” Qiao Xi got him situated in the bedroom, then left.
Huo Xingzhou curiously observed her room, where bookshelves on both sides were filled with medical books and there were dried herbs. The bed was by the window, with a clay pot on the windowsill holding small wildflowers, and a string of wind chimes above.
On closer sniff, there was a sweet fragrance typical of a young woman’s room.
Simple, warm.
It was obvious she was a very family-oriented, gentle girl.
Qiao Xi quickly fetched water, placing it on the washstand, “Mr. Huo, please take off your clothes.” She took a set of men’s pajamas out of the suitcase and placed them on the bed.
“Okay.”
Huo Xingzhou wasn’t fussy and took off his suit and shirt, setting them aside. Qiao Xi helped him sit on the bed and changed him into the pajamas.
She wrung the towel and gently wiped his back.
Then, she took the ointment and carefully applied it to his wounds.
Huo Xingzhou’s fingers absently fiddled with his sleeve as he spoke softly, “You haven’t applied any medicine on yourself.”
Qiao Xi waved dismissively, “My injury isn’t serious, no need for ointment.”
She picked up his suit when suddenly something fell out. Huo Xingzhou quickly grabbed it before Qiao Xi could even see what it was.
The man calmly said, “Just some small things.”
“Oh.” Qiao Xi didn’t fuss over it and hung his suit in the wardrobe. @@novelbin@@
Huo Xingzhou stuffed the small box of things under the pillow, cursing Zhou Yu in his heart again.
“Mr. Huo, it’s getting late. I’m turning off the light.”
“Okay.”
Huo Xingzhou slept on the side by the window and Qiao Xi on the outer side for convenience.
The blanket rustled softly and the bed sunk slightly on the edge, where Qiao Xi lay tentatively, taking up only a small space.
She didn’t dare touch Huo Xingzhou – this was their first time sharing a bed while conscious!
Qiao Xi dared not even breathe heavily, lying flat, with her hands crossed on her abdomen. Using the most standard posture, she coaxed herself to sleep.
“Move in a bit; you’re about to fall off,” Huo Xingzhou spoke calmly.
Qiao Xi moved a little closer, able to feel the warmth emanating from his body.
The old-fashioned palm mattress made ambiguous “creak creak” noises.
Qiao Xi was a bit nervous, “I… I’ll go sleep with Grandma.”
She should have decided to do this from the beginning, mainly because she was afraid of disturbing the old lady’s sleep.
Under the quilt.
Warm and powerful hands gripped hers tightly.
“Do you have to sleep with Grandma every night? She might get suspicious,” they were husband and wife, how could they sleep in separate rooms every day.
“Then I… will just sleep here,” Qiao Xi resigned herself.
The two lay side by side on the bed with restraint, breathing softly, desperately trying to lull themselves to sleep. But they became even more awake, and the night gave rise to a faint sense of intimacy.
“Meow…”
“Meow meow.”
Outside the windowsill, the voices of the stray cats continued incessantly, long and melodious.
In spring, cats call for mates.
One called for a while, then another stray cat arrived. The two stray cats fought beneath the windowsill like Fairies, their sounds growing increasingly indecent.
The quieter the night became, the clearer the “meowing” of the two stray cats.
Qiao Xi’s cheeks burned red, and finally, she could not bear it any longer. She propped herself up on her hands to get up: “I’m going to chase away those annoying cats.”
He reached out and pulled her back, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.
“Qiao Xi.”
Maybe it was the devil’s plaything under the pillow, or maybe it was the cats’ mating calls—either way, his thoughts were no longer pure.
Those restless, fervent thoughts surged uncontrollably forth.
“Mr. Huo, what… What’s wrong?” Qiao Xi unconsciously licked her dry lips.
His hand was so hot.
The moonlight seeped through the cracks of the windowsill. Huo Xingzhou could clearly see her delicate face and her nervously trembling eyelashes.
“Mr. Huo, is it the herbal medicine that’s making you uncomfortable? Or did Zhou Yu give you something?” Qiao Xi’s throat tightened as she asked.
Was there a problem with the “little thing” that had fallen out of his clothes?
Huo Xingzhou’s grip on her hand grew tighter; he said with restraint, “The problem is with me.”
His eyes dark and deep.
Huo Xingzhou watched her in silence until her heartbeat sped up more and more.
Qiao Xi’s breathing, became erratic.
Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, “Mr. Huo, I… I’ll take your pulse to see if your body is…”
The man’s voice grew even huskier, “Qiao Xi, I am not a saint, I cannot be devoid of desire.”
“I… I understand. Mr. Huo, you are craving. Then… then let me help you,” she said.
Qiao Xi leaned in close, as he had done before, and clumsily kissed his thin lips. Her initiative stimulated the man’s nerves.
Huo Xingzhou lay flat, his eyes tightly shut as he exerted extreme self-control, his breathing intensified, almost letting out a stifled groan.
His long fingers gripped the bedsheet tightly, knuckles turning white.
Enduring to the utmost!
He knew he couldn’t let the situation continue to develop, to lose control!
“Qiao Xi, stop,” he said breathlessly, “You go out first, give me some time.”
“…Okay.”
Qiao Xi took a deep breath, her skin blushing like a shrimp. She got up off the bed, glanced back at him one more time, then quietly walked to the door and closed it behind her.
She leaned against the cold wall, slapping her forehead in annoyance. She didn’t know why she had done such a shameful thing on a whim.
She was really making a fool of herself.
Mr. Huo obviously didn’t need her to satisfy his cravings!
How embarrassing.
Qiao Xi stood outside the door for a long time.
Even the cats outside had left, but the bed inside creaked and groaned all through the night.
What do you think?
