Chapter 30 - 30 30 The Family Crematorium Sobbing and
Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Family Crematorium, Sobbing and Begging Sister Man for Help Chapter 30: Chapter 30: The Family Crematorium, Sobbing and Begging Sister Man for Help Wen Jingya naturally was not willing to accept the situation.
She had been instilled with the idea from a young age that she would grow up to be Lu Xingzhou’s wife.
Now that Jiang Man had arrived, she was expected to take a step back to the position of a sister, how could she agree to that?
Besides, if things remained as they were, she could still hope for Lu Xingzhou and Jiang Man to divorce, and then, there would still be a chance for her to marry Lu Xingzhou.
If she truly transferred her household registration and changed her name, then her chances with Lu Xingzhou would be utterly dashed!
“Godmother, it’s just my misfortune to not be able to be your daughter. I can’t be unfilial and abandon my parents, even though they abandoned me before, I cannot abandon them.
But rest assured, godparents; you are like my birth parents to me. I will support all four elderly, and I will take good care of you in your old age.”
Wen Jingya and Jiang Man had similar life stories, both abandoned by their parents as children and adopted by kind families.
The difference was that one family took her in as a child bride, while the other adopted her as a foster daughter.
When the Wen family learned that their daughter had been taken in by a wealthy household like the Lu Family, they shamelessly came to claim her back.
Meng Lian didn’t have the heart to part with her adopted daughter Wen Jingya, plus she had never been able to have children of her own, so she treated Wen Jingya as if she were her own flesh and blood.
And she was very generous, subsidizing the Wen family and letting them leech off her for nearly twenty years.
Wen Jingya’s words moved Meng Lian and Lu Yaobang to tears, and they both started crying.
Lady Lu saw this and her expression turned grave, “Jingya has been raised in our Lu Family for so many years; we’ve already developed deep feelings for her.”
“Jingya, don’t worry. You’ll continue to stay in this family. You’re your godfather and godmother’s goddaughter, and it doesn’t matter if you can’t be Lu Family’s daughter-in-law. Whatever it was like before, it will be the same in the future, so don’t feel burdened. Rest assured, grandma will help you find a suitor even better than Zhou’er.”
“Grandma…” Hearing the old lady’s words, Wen Jingya wept tears of joy.
She had been truly worried about her awkward situation and how she would fit in with the Lu Family in the future.
Now, hearing what the old lady had said, her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled down.
The perfect suitor didn’t matter; as long as she could continue to stay in the Lu Family, there was hope.
She wouldn’t give up on marrying her brother Xingzhou!
“Right.” Lu Xingzhou had been silently eating his meal without expressing any opinions.
Suddenly, he put down his chopsticks and said earnestly, “Elder Mr. Song has acknowledged Manman as his granddaughter. Jiang Man and I will go to his place for dinner tonight.”
“What?” Lu Xuemei and Meng Lian almost exclaimed in unison.
Lu Yaobang couldn’t believe it either.
But being selfish, as long as it didn’t concern him directly, he stayed out of it.
He was surprised for a second, then turned a deaf ear and continued to eat and drink.
“Mr. Song has only met Manman a few times, and he’s acknowledging her as his granddaughter?” Lu Xuemei muttered in confusion.
To say Jiang Man is ordinary, she truly is ordinary – poor family background, no education, the type that, even if offered to someone for free, no one would want her.
But to say she’s not ordinary, she really isn’t ordinary – she restored a painting worth several hundred million without even blinking an eye.
“This is a great thing!” the old lady chided her daughter and huffed, “Some relationships depend on first impressions. Just like love at first sight, we elders sometimes feel it too when we see the younger generation!”
“The little sister-in-law is smart and clever; not only does Grandpa Song like her, but I like her too.” Wen Jingya spoke insincerely, while she was actually seething with jealousy inside.
What’s with Jiang Man’s constitution? Why do so many people fancy her?
This dinner had obviously something to do with Jiang Man, yet she didn’t say a word.
She just ate her meal, sated and content.
…
Meanwhile, at the Song Family.
The dining table was sparsely populated, with only Elder Mr. Song and Song Xiao eating.
“Ah, it’s a pity. Such a good girl like Manman, why didn’t I meet her earlier?” Old Mr. Song shook his head with a sigh, feeling it was such a waste.
“How much earlier? Grandfather, you’re a good fifty years older than her, it’s not possible,” Song Xiao replied.
“You little rascal!” The elder was so enraged he almost threw his shoe at his ungrateful grandson, “I meant I should have met her earlier so that you two could get married!”
“Hehehe, I know, I know,” Song Xiao chuckled shamelessly, “We may fancy them, but that doesn’t mean they fancy us back.”
“It’s not ‘we,’ it’s you!” Grandfather Song huffed angrily.
Song Xiao readily nodded, “Right, right, right, I’m not worthy of her.”
Grandfather Song was so angry he didn’t want to speak. How could it be that in nine generations of single inheritors in the Song Family, the ninth generation had to produce such a disgrace?
“Your good days are coming to an end, Lu Yaobang did cause some trouble when he came to me, but he also discussed some serious matters. He wants to set you up with Wen Jingya. I was originally considering Manman, but seeing the current situation, Wen Jingya isn’t a bad second choice either.”
“What?” Song Xiao jumped up in shock. “Grandpa, I have no feelings for Wen Jingya! She’s been like a tail following me and Zhou’er since we were kids, I’m so annoyed with her I can barely stand it!”
“Marriage is not up to you to decide!” Grandfather Song lost his appetite and left the table in a huff.
Song Xiao watched his grandfather’s retreating back and slumped into his chair, his head drooping.
He used to make fun of Zhou’er for having an arranged marriage, and now, karma had come for him.
Thinking of marrying Wen Jingya made his skin crawl.
…
As night fell, Jiang Man was supposed to go to the Song Family with Lu Xingzhou.
Just as she was getting ready to visit, a phone call from her birth mother came in.
On the other end of the phone, Hu Fangqin sobbed and sniffled, “Manman, there’s big trouble! Your sister has been scammed, come over now!”
“She got what she deserved, didn’t she?” Jiang Man scoffed contemptuously, “Jiang Rou and I have no blood relation. Why should I go there? To wipe her bum?”
“Manman, I know you harbor resentment toward us, blame me and your dad if you want, but Rourou has nothing to do with our grudges, please come back. Your dad has lost his mind and is going to beat Rourou to death!”
Jiang Man no longer wanted to listen to her birth mother’s whimpering and hung up the phone abruptly.
“There’s trouble at home?” Lu Xingzhou stopped and asked with concern.
Jiang Man nodded.
She was going to relish the misfortune and see exactly what kind of bad luck had befallen Jiang Rou.
“I probably can’t stay the night, I need to pay a visit to my parents’ place.”
“I’ll take you,” Lu Xingzhou said without hesitation.
“No need; didn’t you buy me a new car? Just have the driver take me. You rarely get time to spend with Grandma.”
“Okay then,” Lu Xingzhou nodded and spoke to his driver on his phone.
When Jiang Man arrived back at her childhood home in her new G-Wagen, her family had already finished dinner.
Jiang Rou sat on the sofa, her hair unkempt and her body sporting bruises everywhere.
Jiang Man sneered. She had thought Jiang Yueping really loved his adopted daughter, but it seemed that was not entirely the case.
“What exactly happened?” Jiang Man crossed her legs and leaned back on the single-seater sofa.
Hu Fangqin timidly glanced at Jiang Yueping and, seeing that he did not object, hastily said, “That Zhao Peng turned out to be a swindler! He said his company had invested in a project worth over a hundred million and had temporary cash flow issues. So he duped Rourou into borrowing money from us, claiming he’d repay us the principal and twenty percent interest. We scraped together a million to give him, but as soon as he got the money, he blocked Rourou immediately! When Rourou went to his company, she found it was empty. After asking the business administration, we found out that it was just a shell company with nothing in it!”
“Wu wu wu…” Hu Fangqin started crying again, and Jiang Rou’s grievances grew.
Jiang Yueping loved money above all else; losing a million made him fuming mad. That he hadn’t beaten Jiang Rou to death was already merciful.
“So, it’s that issue. She deserves it, you all are insatiably greedy; it’s your own fault,” Jiang Man said indifferently, flicking the dust from her fingernails.
Seeing her family’s misfortune brought a surge of satisfaction to her heart.
It seemed that even if she did not take action against them, fate would.
“Manman, doesn’t your husband live in Rong Mansion and drive luxury cars? He must have many connections; go beg him, see if he can find that swindler Zhao Peng and help us get the money back!”
“Yes, yes.”
Jiang Yueping and Hu Fangqin were perfectly in sync, both turning their pleading eyes on Jiang Man, their words steeped in earnest humility.
They looked like groveling dogs, eagerly awaiting Jiang Man’s response.
To help, or not to help…
What do you think?
