Chapter 475: Chapter 22 Everyone Goes First, I’ll Cover the Rear (4.5k)_2
“It’s getting dark, we need to find the source of the Beast Disaster quickly, tell them not to waste time and energy on these guys.”
The Twins nodded and immediately approached Hippomenes, who was in charge of command and coordination, with their suggestion.
Hippomenes’s gaze flickered, somewhat troubled.
“We’ve just been through several tough battles, everyone is exhausted, forcing them to march now would be asking too much of them.”
“We don’t know how many Magic Beasts are still out there in the mountains, if we drag this out until nightfall, the situation will likely become even more unfavorable for us.”
Castor, the older of the Twins, retorted, frowning at Hippomenes.
Hippomenes pondered for a moment and came up with a compromise.
“How about this, both of you Princes are brave and exceptional, could you scout ahead for the main force? This way we might avoid meaningless battles and quickly quell the Beast Disaster in Arcadia.”
The Twins, who had come for this very purpose, agreed without hesitation upon hearing this.
“We’ll go too!”
As the brothers prepared to depart, Luo En stepped forward with Atalanta and Medea, volunteering themselves.
The Twins hesitated slightly upon hearing this.
“The more, the merrier,” Luo En said with a smile, then teasingly winked, “What, you two brothers aren’t going to mind us getting in the way, are you?”
With that being said, the Twins couldn’t help but agree with a mix of laughter and resignation.
Suddenly, the five of them instinctively formed a formation, with Atalanta leading as the Scout, the Twins spreading out to the left and right to guard the flanks, Luo En in the middle to protect the Spellcaster Medea, and to provide support for the whole team.
With their overwhelming breakthrough capability, the squad easily cut through the charge of hundreds of Magic Beasts, pushing upstream.
Their exquisite combat skills and well-coordinated actions drew gasps of admiration and cheers from the heroes.
“Follow them!”
Hippomenes ordered sternly, his gaze fixed on the advancing figures of the five people, which grew darker and deeper.
As they moved away from the troops, Luo En reminded those around him in a deep voice.
“Our goal isn’t to exterminate all the Magic Beasts of Arcadia, but to find and solve the source of the Beast Disaster, so don’t get entangled in battle, move quickly!”
The four nodded, forgoing the extermination of the Magic Beasts, opting instead for a strategy of avoidance, and speeding through the dense forest to blaze the safest path for the troops behind them.
With the assistance of this elite squad, the Subjugators’ marching speed indeed improved significantly, encountering almost no obstacles along the way.
Even when they occasionally met small groups of attacking Magic Beasts, they were either blown to pieces by the mages or cleanly slain by the Divine Blood Heroes.
But as they drew ever closer to the heart of the Arcadian mountains, the scouting party of five noticed the surrounding environment becoming increasingly strange.
The grass was largely dead, revealing red-black rotting soil, and animal skeletons were scattered everywhere.
The previously lush trees not only had wilted leaves, leaving only naked trunks and branches behind, but the shape of the branches became even more bizarre and menacing, like coiled giant snakes.
What was even more unusual, the bark of these withered trees had red-black vein-like patterns glowing from within.
And the closer they moved forward, the more hideous the shape of the withered trees and branches became, and the clearer the patterns.
Seeing the road ahead almost completely clogged with such things, Luo En narrowed his eyes and frowned.
This thing, it looked somewhat familiar…
Then, he halted in front of the withered forest and shouted loudly.
“Wait a minute!”
At his voice, everyone stopped in their tracks, looking puzzled at Luo En in the center.
Luo En wasted no words, using the momentum of his charge to pull out a Spear and, with a swing of his arm, hurled it forward.
“Thud!”
In the midst of a nauseating dull piercing sound, wood chips flew.
Even more horrifying was the red-black liquid that flowed out from the wound, like fresh blood.
“Rustle~~”
The withered branches and vines hanging from the trees began to twist violently, like a mass of slithering snakes and pythons, winding their way towards the five.
These trees, they were alive!
The faces of everyone changed instantly as they backed away and got into a combat stance, cutting down the oncoming withered branches and vines.
Yet even so, the severed halves of branches on the ground still stubbornly lunged at them like snakes.
Seeing this, Medea quickly waved her staff, chanting divine words swiftly.
As her small hands planted the staff into the ground, a fiery red Magic Circle Diagram was instantly formed around them, and the whirring Aether converged into fiery pillars that ignited the crawling branches and the entire bizarre withered forest.
Engulfed by the fierce flames, the strange trees writhed and twisted, issuing faint screams akin to dragons, snakes, oxen, humans, and more.
But under the widespread fire magic attack, they ultimately had nowhere to run and were burned to ashes.
“Nicely done!”
Luo En patted Medea’s shoulder, appreciating his younger sister’s adaptability and magic control.@@novelbin@@
Blushing at the praise from her brother, the little enchantress seemed pleasantly surprised.
“It’s all thanks to you and auntie’s teachings.”
Luo En, feeling an odd sense of déjà vu, quickly coughed to correct her.
“Next time, don’t be so modest, it’s your hard work that paid off.”
Medea shyly nodded, and then looked at Luo En curiously, voicing the doubt in her heart.
