Zhao Feng stood solemnly on the stage, waving his hand as he began his speech. “First of all, I’d like to thank Teacher Guo for her patient guidance and my parents for their unwavering support behind the scenes.

Secondly, I want to thank my deskmate, Dan Dinghe—no, I mean Huang Qiaoqiao—for her generous help and advice, which has been a great aid to me.

Thirdly, I’d like to thank my good buddy, Jin Fugui, who often treated me to braised pork and sweet-and-sour carp. Meat is an excellent source of protein, which boosts brain memory and helps improve academic performance.

Finally, I want to thank my goddess, Bai Jiaxin, whom I’ve had a crush on for three years. Her encouragement has been my driving force. To pursue her and get into university, I’ve been working hard and will never give up. I’ll never forget my original dream.

I must catch up to her!”

Zhao Feng clenched his fists, his blood boiling with passion as he shouted to the sky.

“Let’s go, young dream chasers!

Fight on, fellow students!

We fear nothing!

We have no retreat!

We must succeed!

That’s all I have to say.

Thank you, everyone!”

Applause erupted like thunder. The entire class stood up, boys and girls alike, their clapping echoing through the classroom and resonating down the hallway of the senior year floor.

Guo Damei stood frozen, her mouth agape as she stared at Zhao Feng on the podium. This guy had turned his speech into an acceptance speech, complete with emotional flair. What happened to sharing study tips?

As Zhao Feng

was about to step down, Guo Damei grabbed his ear and said irritably, “Who told you to give an acceptance speech? Hurry up and share your study secrets—no holding back!”

Zhao Feng, his head tilted in pain, grimaced and said, “Teacher, let go! I really don’t have any study secrets. I just know that the key to the college entrance exam is mastering the basics, not solving high-difficulty problems. I’ve been focusing on the basics every day, and that’s how my grades improved.”

Guo Damei released his ear and gave him a light kick with her high heel, saying calmly, “Go on, then. What you said makes sense. Classmates, take some time to review the basics. Don’t just focus on solving problems. If you master the basics, your grades will improve. Zhao Feng is a living example.

Don’t be fooled by Zhao Feng’s good grades. He’s the slowest student I’ve ever taught. As long as you work harder and are more diligent than him, you’ll definitely surpass him, ace the college entrance exam, and get into your dream university to chase your dreams.

One more thing: tomorrow is a day off. The whole school will be holding a parent-teacher meeting. Parents must attend. The meeting starts at 8 a.m.”

The class erupted in cheers. They hadn’t had a day off in a month due to the intense preparation for the college entrance exam. Finally, they had a day to rest.

During the next class, which was spent going over the Chinese exam paper, Zhao Feng dozed off, lying face down on his desk.

At some point, he woke up to find Bai Jiaxin sitting on his desk, her long legs crossed and her hand gently patting his head as if he were a pet dog.

“You’re awake. Do you know how much trouble your little speech caused me?” Bai Jiaxin said with a mischievous grin.

“I was just telling the truth. Having a goal motivates you to unlock your potential,” Zhao Feng replied earnestly, leaning back in his chair.

“Whatever. You’re comfortable, sleeping until almost the end of school. Meanwhile, I’ve received nine love letters and eight gifts this afternoon. Six guys have already confessed to me, saying they’ll work hard to get into a top university and wait for me there,” Bai Jiaxin said, exasperated.

“Don’t worry. I’ll walk you home after school,” Zhao Feng offered.

“No need. My mom’s picking me up,” Bai Jiaxin declined.

Beside them, Huang Qiaoqiao woke up and said gloomily, “Isn’t it nice to have people chasing you, giving you love letters and gifts? Why doesn’t anyone chase me?”

Bai Jiaxin teased, “It’s because you’re so tall and smart. You intimidate the boys.”

Zhao Feng chimed in, “It’s your hairstyle. The braids and bangs, plus those big black glasses covering half your face. Don’t you think you look like a movie star?”

Bai Jiaxin asked curiously, “Which movie star does Dan Dinghe look like?”

Zhao Feng smirked. “Xi’er.”

Huang Qiaoqiao frowned. “Which Xi’er?”

Bai Jiaxin burst out laughing, lifting Huang Qiaoqiao’s chin with her finger and saying playfully, “Yang Bailao, it’s time to pay your debt. Look how big Xi’er has grown.”

Huang Qiaoqiao finally caught on and punched Zhao Feng in the chest, saying angrily, “You jerk!”

Zhao Feng protested, “It was Bai Jiaxin who teased you. Why are you hitting me?”

Bai Jiaxin punched him too, saying coyly, “Consider it an honor. Aren’t you secretly happy?”

Zhao Feng sighed. “You two are ganging up on me.”

Huang Qiaoqiao and Bai Jiaxin high-fived, their faces lit up with smiles as they mockingly stared at Zhao Feng.

The next day, under a bright and sunny sky, Zhao Changhe rode his Forever bicycle to school, happily attending the parent-teacher meeting.

Guo Damei

presided over the meeting, announcing the results of the city-wide joint exam and singling out Zhao Feng for his remarkable improvement. She even invited Zhao Changhe to the stage to share Zhao Feng’s study methods.

Zhao Changhe, completely unprepared, stumbled through his speech. “My son’s study method is simple: he just works hard, studying late into the night. He likes to play with the dog and eats a lot of eggs. That’s about it.”

Guo Damei couldn’t help but laugh and signaled for him to step down. She then addressed the parents seriously. ”Zhao Feng is diligent, hardworking, and never cuts corners. If he keeps this up, he’s sure to get into a top university. The key to the college entrance exam is dedication, and Zhao Feng is a role model for all students. I hope parents will encourage their children to learn from his example and adopt his relentless spirit of studying.”

The parents turned to look at Zhao Changhe, their eyes filled with envy and admiration. They whispered among themselves, asking about Zhao Feng’s background. When they learned he was known as the most earnest student in the senior year, they couldn’t help but marvel. When a diligent person puts their mind to it, it’s no wonder their grades soar.

Zhao Changhe grinned from ear to ear, his face beaming with pride. His son hadn’t been exaggerating—his grades had truly improved. If Zhao Feng could get into a top university, Zhao Changhe decided he would throw a big banquet to celebrate and show off to all their relatives and friends.

After the meeting, Zhao Changhe lingered behind. He pulled out a basket of fresh eggs from under the table and stopped Guo Damei on her way out. “Thank you, Teacher Guo, for looking after my son. It’s because of your care that he’s achieved such good results.”

Guo Damei glanced around and whispered, “Brother Zhao, why are you bringing eggs to school again? I haven’t even finished the last batch.”

Zhao Changhe insisted, “You have to take them. Otherwise, I’ll follow you around.”

Guo Damei lowered her head and said softly, “Wait for me at the foot of my building. I’ll meet you there. Don’t be late.”

Zhao Changhe nodded. “Alright.”

On his day off, Zhao Feng met up with Little Fatty to go shopping. They bought a pair of white-and-red Double Star canvas shoes to replace his hideous green rubber sneakers. They then played PS games, battling it out in a game of Pro Evolution Soccer, followed by a few rounds of pool. Finally, they headed to the arcade, ready to try their luck.
