Chapter 34 36:Saber's Resolution[II]
[Saber's POV]
Hardening my heart, I turned around, leaving parting words to Gremlin.
"Gremlin, you take the kids and go to a safe place. I will go back and see if Lukas needs any help."
Gremlin, who was at the front, looked at me and opened his lips with hesitation.
"Okay… Take care!"
I nodded and ran to the place.
Reaching the spot, I saw the specter occupying Chris' body making a move.
The fight was too dangerous, and Lukas was already engaging with it, facing a monster far beyond his level.
The Specter was powerful, its claws sharp, and its movements were unnervingly fluid. I started to take cover behind the debris and speculated about the fight while my instincts screamed at me to leave, but something inside my heart stopped me.
I paused, taking cover in the shadows of one of the debris, and watched through the cracks of debris. I couldn't leave Lukas like this. He was a hunter from the academy of the human continent, but this was a fight I knew he couldn't win on his own. Not without any help.
He was clearly overwhelmed.
From my vantage point, I saw Lukas take hit after hit, each strike leaving its mark. His blood was spilling, and he moved while gasping for breath, but I could see the fire in his eyes which told me that it wasn't the end for him..not yet.
He kept pushing, feinting, always looking for an opening. Even when the Specter taunted him, ridiculing his every move, Lukas didn't lose his composure.
Then, I noticed something. He seemed to look in this direction, and it was more frequent.
Then, I saw his quick thinking. Lukas feigned a slash dagger strike to the left, then disappeared into the shadows, using Shadow Step to reappear behind the Specter.
When he emerged, he had the scroll ready, aiming to lock the creature down. But the Specter was quicker than I expected, twisting around and slashing at Lukas with its claws, pushing him back with brutal force.
It was then I saw the desperation in Lukas's eyes. He was hurt, but he wasn't giving up. As the Specter loomed over him, mocking his attempts, Lukas activated something. His eyes turned dark, almost like a black hole, drawing in everything around them. For a split second, I thought I saw fear in the Specter's glowing eyes, but it froze.
'This is the time.'
I had to admit, Lukas was tougher than I gave him credit for. I stayed hidden a little longer, watching the aftermath of his fight, before finally stepping out from the shadows.
I have the power of stealth, but I didn't have full mastery over it. Then I rummaged through the ring and pulled out a potion containing a darkish liquid.
Taking a deep breath, I gulped down the potion Lukas gave me in one gulp, feeling its effects settle over me like a shroud. Then, activating my stealth skill for additional assurance but I didn't know if it worked as I melted into the shadows.
My body blended seamlessly with the darkness as I crept back toward the battle.
When I reached the edge of the clearing, I froze, my eyes widening as I took in the scene. Lukas lay on the ground, struggling to push himself up while a scroll slipped from his fingers as he gasped for air.
While I was a bit unfocused, the Spectre managed to corner Lukas.
The Specter loomed over him, lifting Lukas by the collar with sickening ease.
A large grin spread over the lips exposing sharp teeth that seemed to have gotten taller as his face leaned closer.
Hidden in the shadows, I watched Lukas grapple with the Specter while my heart pounded as I waited for an opening. But suddenly, Lukas's gaze shifted, his eyes locking onto my hiding place with uncanny precision.
It lingered only for a moment before the Specter slammed Lukas onto the ground with a sickening slam.
'Is he looking at me?'
'No, this isn't possible!'
Just as I concluded this, I saw Lukas smiling and giving a wink.
"What?" I gasped loudly. Knowing what I did, I immediately shut my lips, shoving my hands.
'How… how did he spot me?' My mind raced, but Lukas's intense gaze silenced my questions.
'He knows I'm here… and he's telling me it's time.'
Then I remembered Lukas's words as he gave me the axe.
"Use it to sneak attack when the time appears."
With a steady breath, I took out a storage ring. Then, I pulled out the axe Lukas had given me, pressing a scroll to its blade and pouring mana into the weapon. This is my chance. I need to strike no matter what.
Steeling myself, I slipped silently toward the Specter, axe ready for the final blow.
.....
As the Specter trembled, locked in Lukas's gaze, I seized the moment. Silently, I crept forward and swung the axe down, cleaving straight into the creature's head.
'Take this!'
CANG!
A soft thud echoed as the sharp blade of the axe lodged onto it.
Darkness erupted, spilling out in tendrils alongside dark blood, filling the air with an eerie, scratching sound.
The Specter convulsed, trying to pull away, but Lukas tightened his grip, grabbing its arm and forcing it down as his other hand locked around its neck. Just then, the scroll on the axe activated, bursting with a blinding light.
"Take this, you son of a bitch."I screamed, pulling the axe and slashed it again.
The axe struck cruelly, cleaving into the Specter's head. A blood-curdling howl erupted, shaking the very air around us.
"GURRRGGGGG!"
Its voice was a mixture of agony and rage, a screech so raw it felt like needles piercing my ears. Shadows spilled out from the wound, writhing like living tendrils, clawing at the air in desperation.
The Specter thrashed wildly, while its form distorted and twisted as if trying to tear itself free. Darkness poured from its body, thick and choking, filling the room with an oppressive weight.
Then, the Blessing Charm on the axe flared to life, radiating a searing light.
Then a large strange growl ripped across its throat.
The Specter's howls grew louder, turning into high-pitched screeches that cut deep into my soul. Its body convulsed violently, the darkness erupting from it boiling away in the golden glow.
With one final, ear-splitting scream, its form shattered, the smoke and shadow dissolving into the light. The room fell silent, the Specter's existence wiped clean, leaving only the faint warmth of purification behind along with a charred body that slowly returned to normal size.
Then, an explosion followed, lighting up the entire place.
As the smoke settled, I dropped to my knees, panting, while my gaze fixed on Lukas, who was bleeding heavily but slowly moved, pushing away the dead body.
"Are you alright?" I asked, my voice shaky as I looked at Lukas's wounds, worry flickering in my eyes.
Lukas gave a faint nod, the hint of approval, and got up pushing the corpse despite the intense wound left over his chest while looking at the far end of two, where a behemoth creature was fighting against the city lord, who looked like a buzzing fly.
What do you think?
