Chapter 1456 Assertion of Dominance
A moment ago.
Selvaris and her guards watched from the safety of the bubble as the main bubble collapsed.
Soldiers were blinded by the Black Rift and torn to shreds by the Voidal Pawns.
Some even turned into Voidal Monsters themselves, falling to the Voidal Metamorphosis.
Even though the Dragna Sea's bubble could not be seen from the outside—anyone could see outside from the inside—giving Selvaris and her guards a direct view of the slaughter. People screamed in agony, banging on the bubble, asking for the bubble to be opened desperately.
It was a traumatizing sight, there were close friends or even families among them.
Not one of their voices could pierce the bubble.
Even then, the soldiers inside could hear their pain without even needing to hear it directly.
"Young Mistress! Please! Open the bubble and let them in!" One of them asked in despair.
But Selvaris could only shake her head, "I have not the power to open it—the Obelisk of Life seemed to be malfunctioning from having its life energy running out. Go back to your homes, don't watch this if you don't have the stomach for it. I'm sorry but I can't do anything"
"No way…"
"All of them are going to die? Why is this happening?"

"Dad…? Dad!!"
Once she said her piece, Selvaris narrowed her eyes at Rex standing in the distance.
He seemed to be at a loss, most likely swallowed by the Black Rift's powers.
Scoffing in disdain, Selvaris turned around to leave, heading back to the pavilion, 'It's a shame that I couldn't have the satisfaction of killing him with my own two hands but it doesn't matter. No need for me to lower myself—and be stuck at the level of a nobody like him. Since now Brother Garvain knows the real truth, we can unite our forces and reclaim our lost lands'
'We will be as strong as we once were. No, stronger… I can't wait' She hummed cheerfully.
Even though she didn't know why they decided to do this to the soldiers, she trusted Garvain.
He was the one who killed Fintura so he's very capable.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield.
Rex stared directly into the Three-faced Leecher and it stared directly into him.
Despite being in his Werewolf form, their heights were about equal.
And oddly, there was a level of instinctual understanding between the two.
He is a Werewolf who crossed over to the Spirit Realm as a Ghost Spirit while the Three-faced Leecher is a special creature of the void that has climbed the ranks of the void to become a Voidal Knight, one that holds a high standing around the area.
Both of them were starkly different but also the same.
Forged and tempered in battle.
"Your killing intent and your scent, are the same as mine," the Three-faced Leecher said.
Hearing it talk with an endearing, astral voice—Rex was taken aback but he quickly recovered.
"Should I say the same to you?" He asked with a smile.
Pausing for a second, the Three-faced Leecher tilted its head with an eerie slowness.
Then, its head unnaturally shook a bit, until a bone-cracking sound resounded and it changed face to the left one, the wrathful one. Once that happened, an insurmountable killing intent surged from the Three-eyed Leecher.
It was almost matching to Rex, swelling up like a vortex of crimson hue.
Just from that alone, it was clear that this Voidal Knight wasn't a simple entity.
It was formidable.
Seeing the acknowledgment behind Rex's eyes, the Three-faced Leecher recalled its killing intent once again as its face returned to the middle one, "I am also an Alpha, and these infants," It gestured towards the swirling squid-like creatures that blotted the sky. "Are my kin. Tell me, where are your kin?"
"Do I smell a challenge?" Rex's eyes flashed with a deadly light. "A battle between Alphas?"
As soon as he said that, tension bubbled.
But Rex quickly eased it, "My kin are in another realm, I'm alone here"
"Shame…" the Three-faced Leecher commented.
"However, we can still compete," Rex added quickly. "Me and you, wiping out these soldiers. The one who killed the most is the winner and is the better Alpha. How about it? Are you confident in yourself as I'm confident in myself?"
"Are you sure? Weren't these weaklings come from your forces?" the Three-faced Leecher asked.
Just until a moment ago, Rex belonged to one side and was fighting the other.
So naturally, he must have some sort of attachment to one side.
"Yes, I'm sure. After all, like you, the people behind this also wanted to kill me," Rex answered.
In an instant, the Three-faced Leecher waved its tentacle and dispersed the squid-like creatures.
All of them swam back to the sky, to the black hurricane's eye.
Some of the soldiers who were in trouble and almost got killed were freed suddenly.
It was a surreal sight, the Three-faced Leecher has absolute control over these Voidal Pawns.
"So be it, it's not a common occurrence to find someone like you," the Three-faced Leecher said as it and Rex turned to either side—Rex at the Dragna Sea's bubble while the Three-faced Leecher at the Dragna Land's bubble. "I will still kill you and suck your life energy after this"
"Focus on beating me first," Rex laughed mockingly. "Then think about the aftermath"
Once the two came to an agreement, they dashed at the nearest lump of soldiers to them.
Despite not being able to see very far due to not being a Seeker, the soldiers noticed Rex was coming at them due to his aura. Soldiers from the Dragna Land were terrified while the soldiers from the Dragna Sea were excited.
Knowing how strong Rex was as he was able to clash with Franklin, they thought they were rescued.
However, their hopes were instantly squashed.
Swish!
Rex, amplified with the Blood Moon Order skill that strengthened the Red Dawn of Kaiser as well as increased his life energy reserve, blitzed through them—in an instant. Even with the excited smile with the hope of being rescued on their faces, Rex showed no mercy.
He separated their heads with a quick and blinding swing.
In one second, the soldiers were split into those who were hopeful and those who were afraid.
In the next, all of their expressions contorted to confusion when they could see the world from a higher vantage point but it was only then—that they realized what had happened to them—Rex severed all of their heads!
Realizing that, however, was useless as it was too late for them to do anything.
Several meters away from him, there was a big group of soldiers.
One of them has glowing eyes, luminescent within the Black Rift—showcasing that he's a Seeker.
And this Seeker saw what Rex did to those soldiers.
'He's a mercenary that was captured and tortured by the Young Mistress…' the Seeker gulped, the cold air emanating from Rex's body sent a shiver down his spine. 'Even though we are two hundred meters apart, I can still feel his killing intent seeping into my bones. Killing people would pique the attention of the Imperial Forces, so how come he could amass a killing intent aura that's so domineering?'
'What is his background? How come he's not executed?!' He screamed inside his mind.
But then, the Seeker's breath hitched.
He took a step back unconsciously when suddenly, Rex turned to look directly at him.
'No, he can't possibly see me,' the Seeker thought but his heart pounded inside his chest, anticipating the worst. He stared through the swirling black wind of the Black Rift and saw exactly what Rex did to the poor soldiers. 'He's not a Seeker, there's no way he could see me…'
But then, as if the horrors weren't enough, his blood turned to ice when Rex's lips curled into a smirk.
Just that alone showed that he really could see through the darkness.
'We're about two hundred meters apart, the distance was too great. He wasn't a Seeker and yet, there was no mistaking it,' the Seeker stepped back even more but he was already backed against the bubble. 'Those crimson eyes… he could really see me!'
Despite the denials clawing at the edges of his thoughts, the truth was undeniable.
Rex was staring right at him.
Before he could react, Rex vanished from his spot.
Seeing this, the Seeker choked, his body locking in place as a shiver—deeper and colder than any he'd felt in his centuries of life racked his frame. Just then, he saw the soldiers around him turned, their faces pale, and their eyes wide with terror.
At first, the Seeker thought they were looking at him but no, they weren't looking at him.
They were looking behind him instead.
Grr…
A low rumbling growl of a predator seeped into his ears, stunning him completely.
Slowly, stiffly, the Seeker glanced over his shoulder.
His soul instantly fled his body at the sight.
Rex stood there, towering like a specter of death—his ink-black fur blending seamlessly with the black wind. Only his eyes burned through the darkness—crimson, unblinking, and filled with a deadly gleam that of a devious hunter.
Unnaturally, the air around him seemed to warp—heavy with a menacing aura.
For a moment, time itself seemed to freeze.
"Please, spare m-"
Before he could even finish his sentence, Rex already grabbed his face and lifted him off the ground.
He did this under the soldiers' gazes, including those inside the Dragna Sea's bubble.
Crash!
Just as he was about to finish these soldiers, a loud crash resounded.
Rex turned to the other side and saw the Three-faced Leecher also commencing a slaughter.
Moving extremely quickly—it reached the place where the soldiers were grouped up.
Its three faces scanned the entire area, counting the soldiers around and as it charged past them, the four tentacles on its back stabbed each one of the soldiers. Like a meat grinder, the Three-faced Leecher was killing them with effortless effectiveness.
Although Rex could see far without a Seeker, the Blood Moon Order skill helped him see.
Of course, his vision was completely different than normal.
As opposed to being able to pierce through the Black Rift, he was able to see other people in the form of their blood vessels and hearts. Rex could tell where the Three-faced Leecher was as well as see what it was doing from afar because of that.
Under half a minute, it managed to slaughter several groups as if they were nothing.
Not one of the groups posed a challenge.
Even the soldiers who were at Ascendant Spirit 5 couldn't block even one of its attacks.
Just to show how powerful a special Immortal Spirit really was.
As it reached the last and nearest group, it stopped and turned towards Rex in the distance.
Rex could see its face properly but he could tell that it was smirking.
Call it a gut feeling, but the Three-faced Leecher was definitely smirking at him right now.
In a spectacular display, it reached out its hand to another group of soldiers nearby—and then, Rex saw several massive tentacles burst from the ground and grabbed about thirty soldiers. With a light flick, the tentacles threw the soldiers up in the air.
Crack!
Splash!
Following that, another tentacle, the biggest one exploded from the ground.
It shot towards the soldiers in mid-air with incredible speed.
Soon, its tip branched out into dozens of smaller tentacles and impaled all of the soldiers brutally.
Rex watched, as he saw the massive tentacle kill the soldiers mid-air and stop, becoming a sort of tree of corpses with blood still drizzling down its branches. Such a unique display of killing was both terrifying and also spectacular.
Even though he doesn't want to admit it, the Three-faced Leecher really put on a show.
Clearly, this was an assertion of dominance.
This showcase was its way of saying that it was the real Alpha.
"Challenging me…?" Rex uttered with a devious smirk. "I guess I have to respond with an equal show"
What do you think?
