Chapter 1457 A Great Dilemma
Looking up at the imposing tree of corpses, Rex's lips curled into a ravenous smirk.
It was his first time to be put in this situation.
His first time to be forced to prove that he was an actual Alpha.
An Alpha is not only the strongest of the group but also a bastion—the face of the group.
No matter the situation, an Alpha must carry himself with a fearless bearing.
Being thrust by the dominance of another Alpha was unacceptable, Rex must respond with the same exact, or perhaps more fervor than the Three-faced Leecher. Giving no response meant taking in the role of the submissive, and submission is not in an Alpha's book.
"Putting on a bad show would be disgracing the Silverstar Pack, I can't do that…" Rex mumbled.
Soon, the aura around him began to sway and surge.
Maybe because of his pressed situation, maybe because this was a new situation for him, or maybe the Blood Moon Order skill amplified his beast instincts—but in the face of such a spectacular display of domination, something awakened inside of him.
Rage.
It was boiling rapidly and under five seconds, it already swallowed Rex whole.
So badly that he needed to scratch his neck and chest, the burn brought by the rage made him feel itchy.
My blood is boiling. It's anger but it felt good… this is kind of exciting!
"Let's see which of us are more dominant!" Rex declared with maniacal laughter.
Kaboom!!
Rex's aura exploded like an explosion.
He unleashed the full extent of his killing intent—the killing intent that he had been hiding for so long as to not spook the others. Killing countless living beings, the blood of millions on his hands, the true killing intent aura inside of him was terrifying.
Compared to the Three-faced Leecher who has lived longer, it shouldn't be comparable.
His killing intent should be way weaker.
Yes, he killed millions but in front of an ancient entity—that number was nothing.
Surely, the Three-faced Leecher has killed more than that.
But that wasn't the case.
The killing intent Rex displayed was so enormous that it spooked the Three-faced Leecher.
Swoosh!
Looking around them, the Seeker who was still within Rex's grasp—and the other soldiers nearby sucked in a cold breath. Rex's killing intent aura was so immense that it created an illusion—the entire world was now tainted with a crimson hue.
Even the moon above has turned completely red.
Starfall and celestial bodies alike also seemed to be devoured by this red, bloody moon.
Not to mention, a sea of blood then washed over them.
All of them tried to run away but there was no way to go, the sea of blood rose until it drowned them.
Suddenly, Rex threw the Seeker skyward.
Crack!!
Following that, he punched the ground so hard that the impact threw the other soldiers to the sky.
"Don't you dare arrogantly try to dominate me," Rex growled, his voice a low, rumbling thunder that seemed to shake the very air. Time itself seemed to falter as his aura surged, a towering inferno of killing intent that made him loom larger than life. His crimson eyes burned like twin blood moons, locking onto the Three-faced Leecher with unrelenting intensity, "You may spill more blood, but my claws have torn through the flesh of Gods! In front of me, you're no Alpha!!
Swoosh!
In the next second, the Red Dawn of Kaiser hummed with more life energy and power.
Glaring at the soldiers above him, thrown helplessly in slow motion, Rex swiped his claws and sent a bloody energy arc—toward them. Before any one of them could even let out a moan, they exploded into a mist of blood—their bodies destroyed.
Rex then spread his arms to the side imposingly. Explore more at My Virtual Library Empire
A rain of blood descended on him, wetting his armor and face—turning him more menacing than before.
He did all of that while keeping his gaze directly on the Three-faced Leecher.
Instead of being scared, the Three-faced Leecher smiled.
As it expected, Rex was the same as him.
On the other hand, while these two were commencing a battle of domination, Istvan and Garvain were watching them from inside Dragna Land's bubble—with shock plastered on their faces. Both were not expecting this to happen at all.
They planned to root out the weak soldiers using the Three-faced Leecher.
Once the strong soldiers were the only ones that remained, the two lords would come out and help them.
Seeing them banding together to fight the Three-faced Leecher would help them start a new chapter for their land. It would be easier for them to combine both houses once again—if the remaining soldiers saw their display of teamwork.
A perfect alibi for them to push aside their differences.
Since Rex possessed an overwhelming aura, way higher compared to the soldiers outside, Garvain and Istvan weren't worried. Surely, the Three-faced Leecher would attack Rex first and that would buy them time to watch how the soldiers performed.
Now, that plan was in shambles.
"Is this really happening?" Istvan mumbled in shock. "Nobody could reason with a Voidal Monster"
"I'm afraid this is really happening," Garvain answered with an evident frown.
Instead of following their script of fighting against each other, Rex and the Three-faced Leecher went to compete in a battle of Alpha. As opposed to clashing, they killed the soldiers instead—killing all of them in cold blood.
"We need to get out there," Garvain said decisively.
Upon hearing this, Istvan paused before he refuted, "We can't. That monster is in front of our bubble!"
As soon as Istvan said that, Garvain clicked his tongue.
'Istvan is right. If we go out, that Voidal Knight will attack us, and we're going to need to face it head-on,' He thought, frowning hard as the situation wasn't good for them. 'If we came out and fought that thing, that mercenary, Rex might not help us'
Both the Narsa and Arcalen House were in a pickle.
A great dilemma fell on them.
On one side, they have to go out and save the soldiers or else there would be no more soldiers for both Houses while on the other side, if they did go out, they would fight the Three-faced Leecher as well as needing to be conscious of an ambush from Rex.
It was either risking their lives or their prosperity.
Losing the soldiers would devastate them and would allow other forces to move on them.
No matter what, Garvain and Istvan couldn't let that happen.
But Garvain noticed something weird.
'Why did that thing pick our bubble anyway?' He thought with an evident frown, watching the Three-faced Leecher continuing to massacre the soldiers. 'Had that mercenary been the one who was nearby, we could've attack him and used him as bait'
Just as he thought of that, he noticed Istvan stiffening.
Istvan gazed ahead—his eyes widening in realization.
"No… He's aiming to destroy us from the start!" Istvan mumbled aloud.
Once he glanced over to Rex, he gritted his teeth in anger when he saw Rex smiling at him knowingly.
Even though he already tried to mediate the problem between Rex and Selvaris, it seemed the problem was too deep to fix. Rex has no intention of helping the Narsa House. From the start, he was aiming to make the Narsa House pay for what Selvaris did.
Rex knew that he was going to be used to kill the Three-faced Leecher.
Thus, he deliberately lured the Three-faced Leecher to attack the soldiers near Dragna Land's bubble.
If these two wanted to get to him, they would need to go past the Three-faced Leecher first.
"Do you have a problem with him?" Garvain asked gravely.
Upon hearing this, Istvan nodded hesitantly, "Yes, Selvaris captured him and tortured him"
"Why did she do that?"
"Because he's strong and she thought he might be hired by your House"
It was a misunderstanding.
But there was no use in regretting that, the problem would worsen with time.
"We have no other choice or else our soldiers would all be killed," Garvain said as he channeled his life energy, a blue stormy energy that turned his entire body azure color. "Come, Istvan, we have to make our move right now! A man can't be indecisive or late to anything!"
"I'll be right behind you," Istvan replied, summoning an intricate spear—his Soul Artifact.
Just then, as they were about to move, Garvain stopped abruptly.
He looked around as if searching for somebody, "Where's Franklin…?"
"Lord Franklin?" Istvan repeated before he also looked around.
Nobody was near them—the Dragna Land's bubble was completely sealed off before any of the soldiers were able to get inside. But through telepathy, the link that was present between them through absorbing a drop of Arcalenta's blood, Garvain already warned him of what would happen.
It was the reason why Franklin didn't continue his fight against Rex and Eiran.
So Franklin should have run to safety but he was not here.
"Did he go to the Dragna Sea?" Garvain questioned, hoping that Franklin might be on the other side.
"No," Istvan shook his head. "I can't feel his presence in Dragna Sea"
Almost instantly after he said that—their eyes trailed back toward the Black Rift ahead.
Both their hearts sank into their stomachs.
If Franklin wasn't in the Dragna Sea or the Dragna Land then something must've happened.
Meanwhile, within the Black Rift.
"Fuck…" Franklin cursed under his breath. "What happened earlier?"
Moments ago, when he heard Garvain telling him to retreat back inside the bubble, he took care of the Voidal Pawns around him before preparing to make a dash back to safety. He channeled his life energy into his legs, strengthening them.
But as he was about to make the dash, his life energy was suddenly dispersed forcefully.
It caused him to stumble and hiss in pain.
He tried running back to the bubble despite the pain but he was too late and got stranded.
Now, Franklin was being protected by his equipment from the Black Rift's influence but his body was frozen stiff when he saw the other soldiers were being massacred. He saw the tree of corpses the Three-faced Leecher created and instantly got cold feet.
From its aura alone, he knew that he wouldn't be able to compete with it.
"Graarrgh!"
"Save me!"
Hearing the screams of agony, Franklin glanced to the side and saw the Three-faced Leecher.
Its four tentacles impaled through four soldiers and tore them to shreds.
As soon as it finished killing them, it relished the blood before it turned its body towards Franklin.
Seeing this, Franklin's heart stuttered, a cold dread gripping him—as its killing intent washed over him like a tidal wave. Instinct screamed at him to act and with a sharp inhale, Franklin summoned his Soul Artifact—twin azure blades materializing in his hands, their glows cutting through the thick darkness of the Black Rift.
But his Soul Artifact was a small beacon while the darkness was the Three-faced Leecher's power.
He knew that he was outmatched.
He knew that this could be his death.
But even so, his grip tightened along with his resolve.
If this was his end, he'd meet it swinging.
"Come on, then! Come and try me!" Franklin cried ferociously like a beast.
However, the Three-faced Leecher didn't attack.
It merely watched him, its three faces twisted in an unreadable expression before stepping back into the shadows. Franklin frowned—confusion knotted in his chest. Voidal Monsters couldn't feel any kind of feelings and empathy, especially not a special Voidal Knight with a Life Gem inside of it.
Knowing that fact, its retreat made no sense to Franklin.
'Surely, it wasn't because of mercy or pity. So why?' He thought inside
As if the world was listening, the answer came in a heartbeat.
A chill crawled down his spine, sharp and primal, as a new killing intent flared behind him.
Franklin's breath hitched.
He glanced over his shoulder—not daring to turn fully, and caught a glimpse of a phantom—two crimson eyes glowing like embers in the void. His instincts screamed once again, louder this time, forcing him to spin and brandish his blades.
But he was a second too late.
Slash!
A clawed hand raked across his face, tearing through flesh with brutal precision.
Pain exploded, hot and searing, but Franklin gritted his teeth and retaliated—slashing wildly.
Making a powerful swing, he pushed the phantom away, landing a few meters away from him.
Franklin's eyes widened as the shadows parted, revealing the figure.
It was Rex.
The Three-faced Leecher didn't leave Franklin alone because of mercy—or pity, it left Franklin alone because he was already Rex's prey. As soon as he realized that, he leaped back as Rex gave no time for him to recover.
Franklin's eyes were fixed on the claws thrusting toward his heart.
He managed to dodge in time but then, his body was pulled forward like steel to a magnet.
Splash!
"You!"
What do you think?
