Chapter 264
Father Basilio of Brunel’s village church had been leading a peaceful and devout life—at least, as much as one could in a world ravaged by a virus.
Thanks to Happy House—or rather, the lord’s manor, as the villagers called it (a term that would horrify Cherry if she ever heard it)—Brunel had remained a safe haven amidst the chaos.
At that moment, inside the still-standing Brunel Cathedral, Father Basilio was conducting mass with the villagers.
“And lastly, let us pray for Miss Sinclair, who has given us this shelter of peace.”
It was a prayer recited regularly at every mass.
Philip, a teenage shop assistant from the antique store, naturally went along with the prayer. After all, praying for Cherry Sinclair was a given at this point. And yet, sometimes, he couldn’t help but think…
‘At this rate, we might as well start the Church of Sinclair.’
He was beginning to feel like they prayed to Cherry Sinclair more often than to God.
Such was Father Basilio’s devout admiration for her.
Among the villagers, Basilio was by far the most fervent, but since his devotion was directed at Cherry Sinclair, no one really questioned it.@@novelbin@@
‘I just hope he doesn’t turn on her and start calling her a demon if Brunel ever falls.’
Of course, Philip had no idea that his prediction was about to come true immediately.
BOOOOM—!
A deafening explosion shook the village, and a structure the villagers had painstakingly rebuilt over the past months collapsed in an instant.
Brunel’s defensive wall had been breached.
At the sound of the massive crash, everyone in the cathedral rushed outside—only to be met with the sight of the ruined wall and a convoy of vehicles barreling into the village.
The cars came to an abrupt stop in the central plaza. Their doors swung open, and armed soldiers poured out, moving with military precision.
One man stood out among them.
He had jet-black hair, loosely tied at the nape of his neck, and was impeccably dressed—a stark contrast to the uniformed knights around him.
What do you think?
