Chapter 40 - 40 39 The Gift of His Highness
Chapter 40: Chapter 39: The Gift of His Highness Chapter 40: Chapter 39: The Gift of His Highness Qu Tong turned off the light computer and went to retrieve the delivery from the commercial firm.
This morning, when she opened Jun Li’s light computer, she found a message from Gong Yun’s assistant.
He said that the military had sent her some gifts, hoping she would like them.
When Qu Tong collected the delivery, she found two Space Buttons.
The use of Space Buttons indicated that the objects were either quite large or valuable, Qu Tong didn’t rush to open them but decided to go home and check there.
Upon opening the first Space Button, Qu Tong’s eyes lit up, a space ring filled with medicinal materials, half of which were raw materials for the Spirit Power Stabilizing Potion, enough to last her for the coming year.
Some ingredients of the Spirit Power Stabilizing Potion are publicly known online, and even if they weren’t, the frequently used medicinal materials could be detected by machines. The remaining ones were used in such minute quantities that they wouldn’t cost much.
The other half consisted of many rare medicinal materials, not on her prescription list, but all highly valuable.
The gift was indeed very thoughtful.
When she opened the second Space Button, Qu Tong was somewhat shocked.
A pile of Energy Stones.
This was a bold move indeed.
She had seen on the Star Net that Energy Stones were extraordinarily rare minerals of great value, containing energy that could be used in various machinery, and they were the only source of power to activate a Planetary Shield.
This small pile, she estimated, had about seventy to eighty pieces, each the size of two fists, probably worth about twenty million Star Coins.
The value far exceeded that of the potions she sold.
Qu Tong even wondered if Gong Yun and his team had accidentally sent an extra Space Button.
Sending medicinal materials was reasonable, worth about two to three million in materials.
Thus, Qu Tong asked Gong Yun’s assistant if there had been a mistake and whether she should send them back.
Unexpectedly, the assistant made a direct call to her.
The young assistant, Fu Jin, had a clean and refreshing voice laced with laughter, “Miss Jun, please rest assured and keep it. Palace Commander Gong did not make a mistake, your potion is very important to us, so Palace Commander Gong allocated thirty percent of the Alchemist Association’s biannual material request to you. This is what you are rightfully owed.”
Fu Jin spoke with utmost respect.
“There are such benefits?” Qu Tong was surprised.
“Yes, most of the potion supply is skewed towards the military, so it’s normal for us to give a little extra in compensation. Moreover, our military is constantly engaged in warfare outside, making it more convenient for us to collect resources.”
Qu Tong nodded and accepted without demur; she needed it anyway, and if she didn’t take it, the Alchemist Association would just benefit instead.
“Then thank your commander on my behalf, I’ll send you an extra ten bottles next month.”
“That would be wonderful!”
After ending the call, Qu Tong checked the medicinal materials she received once more.
She was pleasantly surprised to find a plant of Seven-leaf Heart among them—a precious item for her, as she had previously found only one such plant after much searching in various herbal shops, and it was incredibly expensive.
She didn’t need to think to know that these rare medicinal materials were requested by the Alchemist Association, but she could just as well craft some other potions with them.
She now had Energy Stones, but alas, no Planetary Shield to use them with, so they had to be stored in the Space Twist to gather dust for the time being.
She went online to check the price of a Planetary Shield.
Between ten million and fifty million, that was manageable.
For her small planet, a shield costing a little over ten million would suffice.
However, she was conflicted; if she kept spending money like this, when would she be able to pay her taxes?
If she failed to pay, the daily penalty of 0.5% would amount to a significant sum.
After hesitating, she still decided not to make the purchase.
*
Si Yuting, who had just returned from the battlefield, received a message from the butler.
[Your Highness, the madam was looking at Planetary Shields on our network for quite some time, but did not make a purchase.]
Madam?
Which madam?
For a moment, Si Yuting did not realize who the butler was referring to.
After some thought, he remembered that Butler Chi was speaking of the second young miss from the Qu Family.
The Empire had many industries that were state-controlled, and the enterprise producing the Planetary Shield was registered under his name.
Customization was required for Planetary Shields, and even checking the price necessitated entering one’s real name and the planet’s information, so it wasn’t surprising that Butler Chi knew.
It must be for the planet that the Empress had gifted her.
Why hadn’t he bought it yet?
[Prepare a set of the Planetary Shield and defense control systems that she looked at, and send it to this address.]Si Yuting didn’t hesitate for long before he made his decision.
He pulled up the information for Star 1757 and Qu Tong’s communicode and sent it over.
Butler Chi: [Understood! Your Highness!]
These two exclamation marks were very spirited.
Before the smile on the aunt’s face, which had made Butler Chi’s lips curl up, could fade, another message came through: [For such matters in the future, there’s no need to inform me.]
Butler Chi: [Understood!]
Not needing to inform him meant to send it directly, crystal clear!
Just a few days later, Qu Tong’s door was knocked on.
Li Kun and two others led a group of four or five people wearing a uniform outside her courtyard.
Qu Tong looked bewilderedly at the three equally bewildered faces of Li Kun and his companions.
One of the uniformed individuals spoke up.
“Miss Qu, hello, we are from Zhongyuan Company, and we’ve come specially to help you install and adjust the central control equipment.”
“What central control equipment?”
“It includes the Planetary Shield, airspace detection instruments, Particle Bullet Defense System, infrared tracking systems, and other devices as part of the all-encompassing planetary control panel,” the staff member explained.
Qu Tong’s lips parted slightly, not fully understanding some of the specialized terms, but she grasped the overall meaning.
The looks in the eyes of Li Kun and the others changed, filled with shock, fear, and disbelief.
This small ‘good-for-nothing,’ no, this little venerable ancestor, was the Planet Master.
Oh no!
What had they done before?!
They weren’t going to be banished from the planet, were they?
“I never purchased these things.”
Qu Tong was certain that she didn’t have a habit of sleepwalking and wouldn’t rise in the middle of the night to place an order.
The staff member turned on her light computer and pulled up the purchase proof: “It went through an internal sales channel, perhaps Miss Qu, one of your relatives or friends who is a senior executive of our company, purchased it as a gift for you.”
Qu Tong had some guesses in mind and activated her light computer.
The conversation box pinned at the top had no unread messages, quiet as the Empress and the Emperor’s.
There was, however, a new friend request.
Qu Tong opened it.
Sure enough, the verification message read: [Madam, I am His Highness’s personal butler, the Prince has prepared a gift for you, which will be delivered to your door in the next few days. Please accept, Madam, and feel free to contact me if you have any issues.]
Indeed, it was her so-called ‘cheap’ husband’s doing.
Well, she would not be shy about it then.
After accepting the friend request, Qu Tong let the staff members get to work.
The lead staff member professionally explained to her the uses and purposes of the various pieces of equipment.
It took five staff members and two large machines a full three days to finish the entire installation and testing process.
Standing inside the control room’s space capsule, watching the surveillance images of the entire planet’s airspace on the full window screen, there was an unexpected feeling of an Earth Dog having ended up in outer space.
It was quite high-grade.
This sensation of having the whole planet within her grasp was really cool!
Now, the entire planet was covered by an invisible shield, and all interstellar management permissions had been integrated into her light computer.
The entire setup was very complete, much more so than the one she had initially looked at.
Without a doubt, it must have cost a pretty penny.
What do you think?
