The Marshal’s Wife is Wild

Chapter 41 - 41 40 Touching Porcelain

Chapter 41: Chapter 40 Touching Porcelain Chapter 41: Chapter 40 Touching Porcelain She had decided, from now on War God His Highness would be her prime financial supporter.

Until she was capable enough to fend for herself, she’d play the role of the great man’s dainty wife and not embarrass him.

Qu Tong immediately snapped a photo of the operating room and sent it over, along with the message: “Husband, thank you for the gift, I really like it. You shouldn’t have gone to such expense. [heart]jpg”
It wasn’t long before he replied, still in his usual style: “It’s nothing, the property belongs to me, it wasn’t any trouble.”

Qu Tong: “…”

She didn’t know what to reply, feeling somewhat Versailles’d in an inexplicable way.

*
Today, having nothing better to do, she followed the creek upstream and, to her surprise, discovered a wild hawthorn tree behind a large rock.

It wasn’t very tall, just a bit taller than her, but its branches were lush and the tree was laden with fruit.

They were all unripe, still green.

Gently she grasped a branch, and in no time, half of the fruit turned red.

With the nourishment of her Special Ability, the fruits grew larger, each one rosy and plump.

Picking one to taste, she found it sour yet sweet, which made her think of candied haws.

As a child, she had longed for them but hadn’t gotten to eat any. It was only after she grew up that she tried them, but they always seemed to lack something.

Nevertheless, the tree looked quite cheerful; it would be nice to dig it up and plant it outside her door.

About to employ her Special Ability, she remembered the three burdens loitering at her doorstep and withdrew her hand.

She pulled up her wrist communicator and shook them over directly.

Ever since they learned she was the Planet Master, they visited daily to make their presence felt, ostensibly to check on the saplings they’d planted next door, occasionally helping with chores that robots couldn’t do.

Qu Tong had been giving them a bottle of intermediate Nutrient Solution every day as well.

She couldn’t let them just eat and drink for free; she had to find some work for them to do.

By the time she caught a fish in the river and was nearly done grilling it, the three men finally arrived, panting.

“Huff, Miss, why did you run off so far by yourself? Aren’t you afraid of encountering a Star Beast?” Li Kun said, resting a hand on the hoe handle while wiping sweat off his forehead.

“Exactly, we even ran into a Star Beast on the way here. If not for Kun-bro’s swift moves, we’d have been in serious trouble,” the skinny guy didn’t miss a chance to kiss up.

“It’s no big deal, basic stuff, just small fry, easily taken care of,” Li Kun said modestly, though his lips curled up smugly almost to the sky.

Qu Tong, seeing their disheveled appearances, rolled her eyes: “Less gibber-jabber, get to work!”

“Right away!” The two immediately silenced and became quite servile.

“Miss, does the fish taste good?” Li Kun asked, turning back to gaze at the fish in Qu Tong’s hand.

He’d tried catching and eating fish from this river before, but their meat was contaminated and tasted awful.

Yet the picky young miss had almost finished a large one. Perhaps he’d been catching the wrong variety.

“It’s delicious,” Qu Tong replied leisurely, popping the last bite of fish into her mouth, then tossed the stick away and smilingly took out a whip from her space.

Li Kun: “…”

He quickly hoisted the hoe and hurried to join the tree-digging pair.

Qu Tong raised an eyebrow, silently waiting for the three to finish digging up the tree and carry it back.

On her way back, Qu Tong didn’t forget to pick some wood ear mushrooms and wild green onions.

The ripe fruits on the tree had all been picked by Qu Tong into her space, but there were still some half-red, half-ripe ones.

Li Kun, eying the treetops, swallowed and asked, “Miss, can the fruits on this tree be eaten too?”

Xiang Bin had told him that the apple tree in the yard was dug up by Qu Tong from this forest, and the fruits were edible when they ripened.

“Yes,” Qu Tong didn’t even turn her head, bundling the wild onions and tossing them into her space.

Li Kun estimated there were more than a hundred fruits on the tree and thought eating one probably wouldn’t be a problem.

So, while Qu Tong wasn’t looking, he quickly plucked an orange-red one and popped it into his mouth.

The buzz-cut lackey felt a tug on the branches, looked up, and caught Li Kun stealing a bite, his eyes widening in shock.

Li Kun glared at him, signaling him to keep quiet.

However, as soon as his teeth clamped down, his face instantly contorted in agony.

He was afraid that Qu Tong would notice, so he dared not make a sound and could only grimace in silence.

He glanced at Qu Tong, who wasn’t looking in his direction, and quickly spat out what was in his mouth and stuck out his tongue to cool it.

The skinny guy and the buzz-cut lackey snickered on the side, not daring to make a sound either.

Qu Tong had noticed the commotion a while ago and burst out laughing.

Li Kun suddenly felt both ashamed and embarrassed, hanging his head not knowing what to say.

“None of those were ripe; otherwise, why do you think they didn’t fall off during the bumpy ride?” Qu Tong tossed two red fruits to Li Kun, “Catch.”

Li Kun caught them and was immediately overjoyed. They were bright red; they should taste sweet, right?

Qu Tong also threw two to the skinny guy and the buzz-cut lackey.

“Mmm, delicious!” the buzz-cut lackey exclaimed naively.

Li Kun nodded furiously, thinking these must be unpolluted Energy Plants!

Sure enough, one could enjoy fruits when following the Planet Master.

Once they left the forest, they weren’t far from home.

But then, an old man threw himself right in front of them on the way.

Qu Tong pursed her lips, noting the poor acting skills.

“Oy…”

The old man groaned and was about to speak when Qu Tong, without changing expression, bypassed him and walked on.

Old Man: ???

Li Kun commanded the two lackeys to carry the tree and was about to tell the old man lying in front of them to “Get lost” when the old man agilely got up from the ground and ran ahead. He then fell before Qu Tong again and pleaded, “Young lady, please have mercy.”

“Old man, I haven’t eaten for three days. I’m starving to death!”

Qu Tong waited for the old man to finish his wailing and said coldly, “Fall in front of me again and there won’t be a fourth day.”

Then she walked away without a backward glance.

“Hey! Hey! Old man’s dying here!” The old man persisted, calling out to Qu Tong’s retreating figure.

“Die further away,” Li Kun said as he and the lackeys carried the tree past him.

Trying to pull a fraud right in front of him.

As if that act would work on this place.

If fraud was so easy, would he be so poor?

Old Man: “…”
What’s with the youngsters these days? No compassion at all, and their words are so harsh.

The old man lay there for a while longer when a young voice sounded behind him.

“Grandpa.”

Turning his head, the old man saw a little four or five-year-old girl with two little buns on her head.

“Grandpa, I only have five Star Coins. Can I help you get up?” the little girl asked earnestly, blinking her eyes.

Old Man: “…”
He wasn’t low enough to take a little girl’s five Star Coins, so he got up from the ground and dusted off his clothes.

Just as he was about to impart some positive energy to the little girl, he heard her say solemnly, “Mommy was right, you shouldn’t help old people by the roadside. They’re mostly faking it.”

After speaking, she picked up a piece of scrap cardboard from where he was lying and walked away, her little buns swaying.

It took the old man quite a while to regain his composure, his old face feeling rather awkward.

When had he sunk so low? It was truly…

He looked at the closed gate in the distance, his eyes filled with renewed eagerness.

This planet must have something special about it, especially that yard, even though the girl was a bit unsympathetic.

Curiosity gnawed at him like a cat’s claw.
