Chapter 413 - 346: How Do You Explain This?
Chapter 413: Chapter 346: How Do You Explain This?
The leader had black hair, and the two behind him, one holding a long-handled warhammer, and the other wielding Shuangdao?
Upon hearing this answer, everyone present was momentarily stunned.
Then, they all turned their heads in unison.
Looking towards Wu Heng, who stood to the side, and his two attendants standing behind him.
One was tall and holding a battle axe, the other of average human height, holding Shuangdao.
Exactly the same!
This… Is the case solved?
Did I get the answer just by speaking with the dead?
Wu Heng was also taken aback and took another look at the corpse.
He had indeed never seen this person, let alone killed him.
The crowd’s gazes turned towards him, but Wu Heng had no response; he simply stood still.
Imilo glanced at Wu Heng, then turned his gaze back to the corpse, about to ask the third question.
“Do you remember anyone with these features?”
The body was silent for a bit, “No.”
Imilo continued, “What did they do before they killed you?”
The corpse answered, “They stood in front of the window and said, as long as I’m dead, that would be the greatest benefit.”
The final question.
After pondering for a moment, Imilo asked again, “Who do you think benefits the most from killing you?”
“My several sons, my few deputies.”
After answering five questions, the corpse lay back down on the iron bed.
And the scene remained silent.
Many still occasionally glanced towards Wu Heng.
A corpse is different from a living person; people can lie, corpses recount only what they have seen.
And among the five questions, the most indicative clue still pointed towards the Association’s vice-executive.
Imilo looked at Wu Heng once more, “There’s also a female corpse, let’s ask her as well.”
Wu Heng didn’t say much, and again cast “Communicate with the dead”, as the corpse sat up from the iron bed.
The white cloth covering it fell away, revealing a linen shirt on the corpse.
It must have been dressed after the autopsy.
Wu Heng stepped back, and Imilo directly asked, “Do you recognize the person who killed you?”
“No!”
“What features did the person who killed you have?”
The female corpse answered, “It was quite dark at the time, I only know there were three people, two of normal stature, and one very tall, speaking with a man’s voice.”
A person’s observational abilities are linked to their own level and characteristics.
The woman was obviously of low level, and combined with the dark environment, she didn’t get a good look at the whole affair.
Imilo nodded, stepped aside, and pointed towards Wu Heng, “Was it those three?”
The body turned its head, looking in that direction, “They look very similar!”
Imilo looked at Wu Heng, “Say something!”
Wu Heng directly faced the corpse and asked, “Is it this voice?”
The body hesitated, then answered, “Not very similar.”
One question remained.
Imilo asked again, “Who are you most suspicious of?”
“My husband, or the family of Jeremain.” @@novelbin@@
The five questions concluded, and the corpse lay back down.
…
Both bodies have been examined.
Everyone present began to speculate as well.
It had been spread throughout the Association these past two days that Wu Heng, a necromancer, hadn’t conducted any necromancy experiments.
Unexpectedly, a case related to him so quickly arose.
Especially since it occurred during the inspection of the ‘Inspector Special Envoy’.
I’m afraid it might be a bit difficult to handle.
Coroner, cover the body again.
Imilo said directly, “Keep this matter confined for now. The Stag Commerce Association will have ‘Xi Ligui’ follow up on it, as well as any subsequent investigations.”
“Yes!” Xi Ligui nodded, sweeping a glance at Wu Heng, who was silent on one side.
Imilo continued to address the others, “Let’s leave it at that for now; everyone go back to your own tasks.”
The group nodded and left together, heading outside.
Wu Heng did not follow them out but said, “Steward, I would like to take a look at the autopsy report.”
“Hmm, come to my study after you’re done.”
“Alright!”
All the others left.
Wu Heng took the autopsy report from the coroner and started examining it.
The male body had been pierced through the wrist by a dagger, and judging from the force and penetration, it was caused by a thrown weapon. The fatal wound was on the neck.
The female body also had a dagger thrust through the neck, again from a thrown weapon.
Of the three assailants, one was skilled at throwing daggers.
“Where were the bodies found?” Wu Heng asked.
The coroner replied, “In the inn of the Lighthouse Street Tavern.”
“At the scene, were there any other discoveries?”
The coroner thought for a moment and said, “The second squad conducted the scene investigation. You can take a look at the investigator’s records for the details, but I heard that the other members of the caravan said those two were very loud last night, and nobody knows how they ended up dead.”
Wu Heng noticed the coroner’s expression and guessed what “very loud” implied.
Handing back the report book, he said, “Thanks!”
After speaking, he left the morgue directly.
And then he walked towards the direction of the Steward’s Office.
…
In the corridor, Wu Heng thought about what had just happened.
“Someone deliberately led the clues to me, even under the circumstances of Communicate with the Dead.”
The whole affair wasn’t difficult to surmise.
Someone had impersonated him and his skeleton attendant to kill the victims, making sure the victims clearly saw the costume before they died.
Then, when the association used Communicate with the Dead, the clues would point to himself.
“Why do this? To muddle the investigation with a murder, or to frame me deliberately by killing someone?”
Wu Heng slowed his pace again, pondering in his heart.
That inspector would likely use that ‘honesty’ tool on me again, but that’s not a big issue since I didn’t commit the murder.
Secondly, some investigations might be conducted on me.
“At worst, I’ll just quit. It won’t affect me much.”
Unlike at the beginning, with his current strength and resources, quitting as Vice-executive wouldn’t matter.
He could always return to Lundham City and become the City Lord.
There, his level 14 strength would rank among the top, and he wouldn’t be afraid of others causing him trouble.
But this feeling of being schemed against was rather unpleasant.
It always felt like a conspiracy was in the making.
If he continued as Vice-executive, he would still have the support of the association.
His status was assured wherever he went.
…
He arrived at the Steward’s Office.
He knocked lightly on the door and walked straight in.
The same people from the last inspection were inside the room.
Steward Imilo, Assistant Moya, Inspector Special Envoy Kalemah, and two investigators.
Seeing Wu Heng walk in, Steward ‘Imilo’ directly said, “What do you think about the corpse’s response just now?”
Wu Heng responded, “I’m not sure about the killer’s motives, but it’s clear that this is a case of framing.”
“Share your thoughts,” Imilo said.
“The evidence clearly points to me, but that’s the most obvious mistake,” Wu Heng paused slightly, then continued, “As a Necromancer, I understand the dead better than anyone. If I wanted to kill someone, they wouldn’t get a second chance to speak.”
What do you think?
