Chapter 452: 229 Sister and Brother (Second Update)_2
Shopkeeper Wang seemed to have found an anchor in his storm, his voice filled with relief. “Miss Gu, you’re finally here!”
Despite her young age, Gu Jiao appeared more composed than Shopkeeper Wang in the face of a group of menacing men. This drew another look from a man in the group.
In the end, she was just a girl of fourteen or fifteen years old. After a momentary surprise, the man dismissed Gu Jiao from his mind.
“Who are you?” he asked.
“She is the proprietor of our Miraculous Hands Hall!” Shopkeeper Wang said, puffing out his chest.
The proprietor? A mere child?
The man would never believe that Gu Jiao ascended to the position of proprietor through her abilities. She was probably the daughter of the actual owner, who merely inherited her father’s business.
Thinking this, the man completely disregarded Gu Jiao.
“Evidence,” Gu Jiao repeated.
The man smirked and pulled out a prescription from his pocket: “You want evidence, right? Fine! Seven days ago, my wife came here for treatment, and this is the prescription you gave. It’s all here in black and white, with the seal of your Miraculous Hands Hall stamped on it! If you don’t believe me, show it to the crowd!”
As he spoke, he displayed the prescription to the bystanders outside the Medical Hall.
The onlookers could not understand what the prescription contained, but they could identify the seal stamped on it.
The man walked up to Gu Jiao and Shopkeeper Wang: “Surely you can’t deny your own prescription?”
Shopkeeper Wang took the prescription from him.
The man didn’t fear that he would tear up the evidence. With all these onlookers watching, destroying it would be seen as admitting guilt!
After Shopkeeper Wang read it, his expression slightly changed. He whispered, “Miss Gu, this is really a prescription from our Medical Hall.”
“Who issued it?” Gu Jiao asked.
Shopkeeper Wang checked the signature. “Doctor Song.”
Gu Jiao took the prescription. Angelica Wine one mace, Black Mustard Seed half mace, Szechuan Lovage Rhizome one mace… fresh ginger three slices. It was a prescription for the Thirteen Taibao, a decoction specifically for pregnant women.
Other medical halls also issued this prescription, but this prescription indeed seemed like Doctor Song’s handwriting, and it had the seal of the Medical Hall. It didn’t appear to be a forgery.
“Call Doctor Song.” Gu Jiao ordered.
Doctor Song was changing Jiang Shi’s dressing in the ward of the backyard. When he heard Shopkeeper Wang call him, he asked, “Is it urgent?”
“A little bit, are you in a hurry?” Shopkeeper Wang replied.
Jiang Shi could talk now. He said to Doctor Song, “You go and attend to it first. Come back later to change my dressing.”
“Alright, then let me bandage this first, don’t move around.” Having taken care of Jiang Shi, he followed Shopkeeper Wang to the Grand Hall.
Doctor Song was slightly confused by the situation in the Grand Hall and at the entrance.
“They’re here to cause a commotion.” Shopkeeper Wang explained.
Doctor Song had not experienced such a situation before, but he was quite composed. He approached Gu Jiao and spoke: “Miss Gu.”
Gu Jiao handed him the prescription: “Do you remember this prescription?”
Doctor Song took the prescription and perused it carefully: “This is indeed my prescription, but I don’t have a strong recollection of it. I will need to refer to my records.”
Gu Jiao took medical practice very seriously, not just in terms of medical skills and ethics, but she also insisted on having more stringent and organized procedures than other medical halls.
There were detailed records of the number of patients each doctor saw and the nature of their illness.
Gu Jiao uttered a sound of acknowledgment.
Doctor Song returned from his consulting room with the record book for this month and flipped to the page from seven days ago, where he found a note about the pregnancy prescription: “It was for a woman who had disturbed her fetus’ harmony through overworking. I saw that it was not serious, so I gave her a prescription to stabilize the pregnancy.”
Gu Jiao: “Was the medicine dispensed here?”
Doctor Song nodded: “Yes, and there’s even the stamp of our pharmaceutical assistant on the prescription.”
Having heard this, Gu Jiao walked over to the corpse laid out in the center of the Grand Hall.
“What are you trying to do?” The man blocked Gu Jiao’s path.
“Autopsy,” Gu Jiao replied.
The man’s pupils contracted: “Are you mad!? No one is to touch my wife’s body!”
Gu Jiao ignored him, squatting down and pulling back the white cloth.
It was a woman around thirty years old.
Gu Jiao stood up and looked at the man calmly: “Report it to the officials.”
This was directed at Shopkeeper Wang.
The man was taken aback, his voice vicious: “What…what did you say?”
Gu Jiao met his angry gaze fearlessly: “I said, report it to the officials.”
“Yes!” Shopkeeper Wang trusted Gu Jiao. Without a moment’s hesitation, he went to carry out her directives.
“Stop him!” the man ordered, and his accompaniment quickly stepped forward to block Shopkeeper Wang’s path. The man pointed at Gu Jiao’s nose,” On what grounds are you reporting? Are you colluding with the officials and trying to bite back at us? I can see right through your tricks, you heartless physicians! The lives of the common folk mean nothing to you! You’re in cahoots with the officials! It’s our lives you’re after!”
What do you think?
