Chapter 112: 16 Deceit Street
Chapter 112: Chapter 16 Deceit Street
The Lin Family became busy.
School was about to start, and Lin Xi, being a teacher, had a lot to do and often went to the school, taking Ye Qingdie with her.
Lin Yuan, on the other hand, was swamped with company matters, his mind wholly occupied by the business, and he was hardly seen.
At present, Lin Company was facing even more ferocious attacks.
The only people in the Lin Family who seemed to have leisure were Lin Jian and Xu Mo.
Xu Mo spent every day practicing cultivation.
Lin Jian was grounded, forbidden by Lin Yuan and Lin Xi to leave the house.
The second young miss of the Lin Family was nearly driven mad by the confinement.
Dressed in her pajamas, Lin Jian lay comfortably on her big bed and activated the communicator.
Another face appeared before her, a woman about her age.
“Lin Jian, what are you doing?” the woman asked with a smile.
“At home, bored to death,” Lin Jian replied.
“Come out and play, I’ve found a fun place,” the woman said.
“Where?” Lin Jian asked, a bit curious.
“Come out with me. I’ll take you there,” the woman said, seeming a bit mysterious.
“My dad and sister won’t let me go out,” Lin Jian said somewhat downcast; she had been wanting to go out for a while.
“What, are you locked up?” the other woman asked.
“Not exactly, just verbally forbidden,” Lin Jian said.
“Are they at home watching you?”
“No, they’ve both been busy lately and haven’t the time to bother with me,” Lin Jian said, her spirits low.
“Then what are you afraid of?” the other woman said with a laugh, kindling a spark in Lin Jian’s eyes.
She seemed to stir with the thought of sneaking out.
If she ran away, someone would surely tattle.
However, she was finding it harder to contain her restless heart.
Xu Mo had been engrossed in cultivation lately.
Lin Xi had told him not to worry about that idiotic second young miss, which had saved him quite a bit of trouble.
Like Lin Jian, he previously felt indifferent toward her.
But since that day, he had begun to despise Lin Jian.
In his eyes, Lin Jian was no better than Ming Yu.
If not for Lin Xi’s sake, he feared he might have beaten Lin Jian too.
While cultivating, Xu Mo heard a noise outside, revealing a hint of surprise; his hearing was exceptionally strong.
When he opened the door of the cultivation room, he recognized the roaring sound in the distance as the start of Lin Jian’s sports car.
It seemed fixing the sports car had rekindled Lin Jian’s impatience.
This time Xu Mo did not go out.
Last time he saved Lin Jian’s life, only to be ridiculed and shamed by her and Ming Yu the next day.
Naturally, Xu Mo had no desire to deal with her affairs, and it wasn’t his place either; would Lin Jian listen to him?
Xu Mo sent a message to Lin Xi to inform her.
After sending the message, Xu Mo continued with his cultivation.
As Lin Xi had said, school would start soon, and it was best to improve his strength as much as possible.
This way, if Lin Xi needed a favor, he could offer some face.
If he performed too poorly, it would also be embarrassing for Lin Xi to speak on his behalf.
Whether he entered the school mattered little to Xu Mo.
But the issue with the identity card needed to be resolved.
Otherwise, without it, everything in the city was restricted for him.
However, some issues that Xu Mo would rather not deal with would still find their way to him.
In the evening, as he was practicing cultivation, his wrist communicator rang.
It was Ye Qingdie.
Upon answering, Xu Mo saw Ye Qingdie was on the move.
“Sister Butterfly, what’s up?” Xu Mo asked.
“Xu Mo, Lin Jian has been kidnapped,” Ye Qingdie started, “The kidnappers notified Sister Xi to come alone and told her not to inform anyone else. Sister Xi is on her way there, and I’m following her, but I’m worried they’re targeting Sister Xi this time.”
“That idiot,” Xu Mo cursed under his breath, clearly referring to Lin Jian.
How could this foolish woman get kidnapped again?
After the last incident, she nearly lost her life.
And now, so soon after, she had forgotten the pain once her wounds had healed.
Going out was one thing, but getting caught was another.
“Where? I’m heading there now,” Xu Mo said.
“Deceit Street,” Ye Qingdie replied.
“Alright, I’ll head there too, Sister Butterfly, keep the communicator on for live location tracking,” Xu Mo instructed.
“I know,” Ye Qingdie nodded.
Xu Mo didn’t head out directly but made preparations, taking all his gear with him.
From what had happened in the past few days, Xu Mo understood the attacker might have come prepared.
Lin Xi was a B-level Source Power Practitioner, and since the opponent dared to strike, they surely had made ready for her.
It would be risky to go recklessly.
With his backpack on his shoulders, Xu Mo left the house, hailed a car to Deceit Street, and inquired about the area along the way.
Steel Dome city was vast, with many districts.
Deceit Street was the name of a street but also represented the entire district.
This was a gathering place for gene-modified people as well as one of the most dangerous areas in Steel Dome city, plagued with crime.
And it was difficult to manage.
While many parts of Steel Dome city were covered by surveillance, Deceit Street had none.
The Security Bureau would install it once, and Deceit Street would dismantle it once.
Deceit Street didn’t need law and order, nor did it obey management.
As time went by, it became a land of chaos. The Security Bureau gave up too, too lazy to manage, letting those genetic humans fend for themselves.
Therefore, ordinary people seldom came to Deceit Street, and if they did, it was only during the day, unless they were criminals.
But only the Deceit Street at night was the real Deceit Street, one of the liveliest places in Steel Dome City.
On the streets, countless neon lights decorated the roads.
Xu Mo stood at the entrance of the street, as if he had stepped into a cyberpunk world, or a world filled with rampant demons.
People inside were strange and varied, including Minotaurs like him, and others with wings like Elsa.
Some walked on the streets, others scaled the walls, spider-man style.
And some jumped high above.
It gave Xu Mo the illusion of being in another world.
He walked inside, noticing the genetic humans around him glancing back frequently.
It seemed that he was the anomaly.
In this place, it was actually the normal humans who seemed abnormal.
“Quite the handsome human guy.” A Bunny Girl approached him, pretty with her pointed ears, and a tail that swayed behind her. Her eyes carried a mischievous smile as she stared at Xu Mo and said, “Fancy joining Sister for some fun?”
Xu Mo’s face darkened.
This cosplay was a little too realistic!
“I’m still young.” Xu Mo smiled in response. The Bunny Girl chuckled and walked past him, not forgetting to remind him, “Coming to Deceit Street late at night, be careful for your safety.”
“Thanks.” Xu Mo walked forward, glancing at his wrist, and quickened his pace.
At the same time, Xu Mo’s perception spread out, enveloping the surrounding area in his awareness.
Suddenly, many images flooded his mind.
In a room next to Deceit Street, he even saw some not-safe-for-work scenes.
So, every world has people who enjoy cosplay.
After observing his surroundings for a moment, Xu Mo suddenly started sprinting. With one step, he leaped into the air, using the adjacent buildings to scale upwards rapidly.
It didn’t take long for Xu Mo to reach the rooftop on the side of Deceit Street, where he had a better view.
Xu Mo crouched down, opened his backpack, changed into his gear, and ran along the rooftops.
The central street of Deceit Street was very wide.
At that moment, in the middle of the street, a group of genetic humans on motorcycles circled around one person.
The motorcycles roared violently, intense friction leaving streaks on the ground.
In the center of the motorcycles, a normal human woman stood, her expression not looking great.
On the ground in front of her lay several figures, who were now getting up and scurrying away in defeat.
It was clear that a fight had just taken place.
On the outer perimeter of the circle formed by the motorcycles, a figure with a sheep-head mask sat on a vehicle, talking to someone else. However, the figure on the screen also wore a mask, hiding their face.
The sheep-head-masked man pointed the Communicator towards the circle, immediately showing the scene in front of him on the device’s screen.
“I want her alive. Bring her to me tonight,” came a voice from the Communicator.@@novelbin@@
“Okay, such a prime chick, I almost want to keep her for myself,” said the sheep-head-masked man sitting on the car roof with his legs crossed. Too bad.
He ended the call on the Communicator and looked toward the front, shouting loudly, “Welcome to Deceit Street.”
“Such a beautiful chick, don’t hurt her, otherwise, it’ll be less fun,” he said, glaring at the surrounded woman.
It just wouldn’t be as fun with injuries.
“Roger that,” came a response from the motorcycles, their riders wielding long sticks with electricity coursing through.
“Roar… Roar…” The engines of the motorcycles roared as two of them charged toward the figure in the center.
Ye Qingdie’s face looked awful.
There were too many of them, and they were equipped.
She had left home unprepared, not wearing her Battle Armor. She hadn’t expected Lin Jian to be kidnapped.
After following Lin Xi to Deceit Street, she and Lin Xi got separated.
Now she had no idea what situation Lin Xi was facing.
As the motorcycles approached, one fore and one aft, their electrified rods swung toward Ye Qingdie.
If she were hit, the strong current would likely paralyze her.
She darted forward and suddenly leaped into the air, directly soaring above, swinging a leg forward.
“Bang.” The person in front was kicked away, the motorcycle flung aside, and as she descended, her body twisted forcibly, her right leg sweeping out.
Another loud noise, and the second person was struck hard and sent flying. But the electric rod still hit her leg, causing Ye Qingdie’s body to twitch momentarily. When she landed, she was unsteady and crouched down.
“Roar… Roar…” The roaring continued relentlessly, and another motorcycle charged towards the crouching Ye Qingdie.
He leaned forward, his electric rod ready to sweep out.
“Bang!”
A bullet pierced directly through his brow, blood spraying out, his body toppling backward due to the force, while the motorcycle rushed forward, crashing into another one.
The man fell hard to the ground, motionless, lifeless.
This sudden turn of events left everyone nearby stunned for a moment; there was no one around.
Someone was shooting from a distance.
Ye Qingdie was about to make a move, but seeing this, she relaxed, knowing Xu Mo had arrived.
Xu Mo, who always managed to provide her a sense of safety.
The sheep-head-masked man also focused on the corpse below, his expression suddenly turning grim.
He looked out toward the perimeter, scanning the streets of Deceit Street, and then his gaze moved upwards.
At the top of a building on the left side of Deceit Street, there was a figure standing with a sniper rifle in hand.
Drapped in a black cloak and wearing a mask, the figure’s face was hidden.
It was Xu Mo.
His eyes were fixed on the scope, and through it, he could see the situation on the other end. The sniper rifle was aimed at another figure.
“Bang.”
Another bullet tore through the air, blood splattering.
Welcome to the hunting moment!
What do you think?
