Chapter 28: Bronze Sword on TV
Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Bronze Sword on TV
“Imagine, the Wen Family has been slaving away devotedly for several generations for the Qin Family, and yet we are still an insignificant little portal in the Capital City, relying on the Qin Family’s reputation just to have a place. Do you really resign yourself to being the Qin Family’s servant forever?”
Zhang Wenfang retorted.
“Wen Hong, I know you don’t want that. If you hadn’t shown ambition from the start, I would never have married you.”
Wen Hong was conflicted; of course, he didn’t want this. What man lacks the ambition of a soaring crane? But he was confined by reality.
In the Capital City, a place where everyone is considered golden, tossing a stone down the street could hit a member of the gentry; it’s not easy for commoners to break through societal classes.
The Wen Family might already be considered wealthy by common folks, but in the eyes of true giants, they were nothing more than ants.
...
Far too insignificant.
Wen Hong sighed, his finger pressing against his forehead, “Qin Yu is too hard to grasp. With Minmin’s abilities, she can’t catch him.”
As the capital of Z country, the Capital City was not only a gathering place for illustrious families but also the most bustling and luxurious hub of business and entertainment. Someone of Qin Yu’s status had seen all sorts of women; how could he easily be infatuated with one?
Zhang Wenfang smiled slightly, turning her head, “You don’t think I really want Minmin to marry into the Qin Family, do you? You underestimate me. I am not so ignorant of our depth. I know, with our family’s status, it’s impossible for Minmin to become the Qin Family Matriarch.”
Wen Hong was first bewildered, then shocked, “You…”
Zhang Wenfang placed a hand on his shoulder, “Anyway, you don’t need to worry about Minmin’s affairs with the Qin Family. Let nature take its course. Whether it works out or not, it won’t do us any harm.”
Wen Hong wanted to say something more, but Zhang Wenfang covered his mouth, “No more talk, it’s settled like this.”
After a long time, Wen Hong fell silent, which was taken as his acquiescence.
Zhang Wenfang happily kissed him on the corner of his mouth, giggling, “Husband, haven’t you been troubled about the business attraction recently? If Minmin goes to the Qin Family, that problem will be solved.”
Wen Hong was startled, “What?”
Zhang Wenfang smiled mysteriously.
…
When Qin Yu got off work and returned to the villa, Uncle Wen informed him that Ah Da had been inside watching TV the whole afternoon, even shaking her head refusing to eat when it was time for dinner.
“Has she not come out?” Qin Yu frowned, slipping off his coat, “What is she watching?”
Uncle Wen hesitated, “The miss seems to be watching the same show all the time, something called… Stars Falling into the Ocean.”
Qin Yu handed his coat to Uncle Wen, unbuttoning his cuffs, and strode toward the movie hall.
The home movie hall was on the basement level. Qin Yu opened the door, and inside, the lights were off, with the television drama playing on the big screen, showing a man and a woman embracing each other face-to-face by the sea.
Qin Yu didn’t like watching TV and had no interest in this, but he wondered if Ah Da understood it.
He discovered as he walked over that he was overthinking it; the young girl was sound asleep on the chair, wrapped in a small blanket, head tilted, hair strewn in a tangle. She was breathing through a slightly open mouth, her little face pink and warm, looking like a ripe, red apple.
Qin Yu bent down, and as if possessed, reached out to touch her cheek, which felt as soft as water tofu and gave way upon the lightest touch.
“Mmmm…”
Ah Da dreamed she was tackled by a talking wolf, its sharp claws pinching her face this way and that, saying she looked delicious with her fine, tender skin, and opened its mouth wide to swallow her whole. The dream was so terrifying that it startled her awake, and upon opening her eyes, she saw the enlarged face of a man right before her, sending another shiver through her.
On closer inspection, she realized it was someone she knew.
“You…”
Qin Yu…
Ah Da’s eyes widened, her voice trembling, “When did you come back?”
The man stood upright, looking down at her, “Uncle Wen said you weren’t eating. What’s going on?”
Clinging to the blanket around her, Ah Da propped herself up with her arms and sat up, raising her head to look at the solemn-faced Qin Yu and found herself at a loss for words, “I’m not hungry; just didn’t feel like eating.”
What she really wanted to say was she would be fine without eating.
But when she saw Qin Yu’s face, she felt a little panicked.
Qin Yu stretched out his hand. “Get up and eat. Don’t you want to grow taller?”
The man looked fierce, as if angry. Ah Da took his hand, got up, and obediently followed him out. Just as they reached the door, she turned her head to look at the screen, seemingly reluctant to leave.
Qin Yu’s thin lips curled in mockery. “Is it really that good? Hooked after just one watch?”
“Not at all!” Ah Da retorted with a flushed face.
Qin Yu looked down at her. “Not what?”
Ah Da turned her face away, avoiding his gaze. “Not hooked.”
Humph, hooked? He knew nothing at all.
Qin Yu spoke indifferently, “Is that so?”
Ah Da didn’t speak, her head lowered, fretting and concealing a secret. Today, while watching TV, she had seen Bronze Sword—to her surprise, Bronze Sword was acting on the screen!
It was too unexpected!
Although Bronze Sword had mentioned back when she was at the old man’s house that acting in the entertainment industry was the easiest way to make money, Ah Da had thought she was just talking. She never expected her to really do it.
Indeed, Bronze Sword was very decisive.
It was also a lucky coincidence. Ah Da had been worried about where to find her in the future, but there she was on the television.
It was a pity she only appeared briefly in “Stars Falling into the Ocean,” playing a small part.
No, this wasn’t the time to think about this. Ah Da shook her head. What she should seriously consider now was how to meet Bronze Sword. Perhaps she knew the reason why her body fluctuated in size and might be able to help her.
Qin Yu didn’t know what the young girl was so happy about. Her cherry-red lips curved upwards slightly, her eyes sparkled brightly, and she had a spring in her step that hinted at an urge to hop and jump.
Then she became worry-stricken, repeatedly shaking her head and sighing. It was only a short distance from the cinema hall to the living room, but her face displayed at least five or six different emotions; it was puzzling.
Qin Yu stopped and firmly grabbed her head. “Do you have something to say?”
Ah Da was confused, tilting her head up and blinking her big eyes innocently. “I… I don’t.”
Would he agree to let her go out if she were honest with him about looking for Bronze Sword?
Ah Da had no confidence in that, better to keep silent for now.
“Really nothing? I’m only asking this once,” Qin Yu narrowed his eyes, looking down at her from above, his long fingers pinching the back of her neck as if pinching a small kitten. @@novelbin@@
She didn’t think she was hiding it well, did she?
Little dwarf Ah Da was currently only a bit taller than his knees, making Qin Yu seem like a giant in front of her.
“Nothing, I’m not hungry for dinner. You eat by yourself.”
Ah Da dropped the words and ran, quickly climbing the stairs with her shoes, while Uncle Wen reminded her from below to be careful.
Qin Yu stared fixedly at her fleeing figure, his black pupils deep, his countenance stern, and it was unclear what he was thinking.
Uncle Wen came over and asked softly, “Young Master, do you want someone to send dinner up to Miss Ade?”
After thinking for a moment, Qin Yu said, “No need.”
Ah Da’s situation was indeed different from ordinary people.
No need? Uncle Wen was puzzled but didn’t dare to say more. He then said, “The first guest room on the third floor has been cleaned. Miss Ade can move in directly.”
Qin Yu nodded in acknowledgment, his mind still on Ah Da’s behavior just now. He paused mid-step and turned to ask,
“Did she do anything strange today?”
Uncle Wen replied truthfully, “No, Miss Ade has been watching TV in the cinema hall all day.”
What do you think?
