The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 604 Meeting Melissa In The Cell

(From Blue's Perspective)@@novelbin@@

Demian was concentrating hard. It was not obvious if you did not know him. He made so little expressions. But if you knew him like I did, you could see the slightest change in him.

Melissa was sitting on the iron bed (it was really uncomfortable even to look at), looking disheveled. Her curly blond hair was piled on top of her head in a bun.

"Hello, Melissa," I said.

Melissa looked up. There was a glossy look in her eyes. Had she been crying? She did not look like it.

"Quite a situation it is," I said and took a step forward. "What did Azure threaten you with?"

"No one threatened me," she said. Her voice was firm and clear. But really, she was a kid to me. Well, she was older than me physically as she was twenty-six and I still remained twenty-five. But I was older than her mentally. I could sense when she was lying.

"Please, darling, I'm too old for this. Why don't we go over this again? When did Azure contact you? The robbery started 46 days ago. Was it right before that?"

"I don't know who you are talking about, Your Majesty."

I looked sideways at Demian. He leaned close to me and whispered into my ear, "Not possessed. No trace of black mana, except for yours and mine, of course."

He was right. There was no trace of black mana around Melissa. She was not being controlled. That was what I had suspected beforehand.

"Mum, do you want to torture her?" Demian asked.

"Demian," I said warningly.

"She isn't saying anything."

"She doesn't have to. I already know. Let's go."

We did not have anything else to do with Melissa. Asking her those questions was not necessary since I had already known the answer. I just needed to make sure whether she was possessed or not.

"Okay, Demian. We will go and take a look at the dead bodies now," I said. I felt tired. I was holed up in my office the whole evening and morning. I was sleepy now. But I could not just put things off after Dion worked so hard for this mission.

By the time we were done, it was five in the morning. I had been yawning for a long time. Dem had to stay with Bree because she kept trying to come downstairs and see what I and Demian were doing.

"We really should rest for a few hours," I said. "Go to your room, Demian, and sleep for a while."

"I will make the report."

"You can make it later, hun."

"Nope. Now."

I watched my son for a while. He was excited. I shrugged. "Suit yourself. I will sleep for a few hours."

"I will bring the report to you when it's done," Demian said.

"Alright."

Calix left me at Bree's door. Dem was sleeping on the bed and Bree had her leg on his stomach. Bree slept in a weird way. Her legs were on one side while her head and hands were on the other. Kind of like a bow.

Dem woke up as soon as I walked in. He carefully put down Bree's leg and got up.

"Done?" he asked and looked out the window. "Damn, Blue, it's morning."

"Yeah. I will sleep for a while. You can stay here if you want to."

"No. I also would like to sleep. At least for an hour," he said. At six thirty, Dem taught Dion and Bree swordsmanship and forced Demian to exercise. There were days when Dem was seen pulling Demian by the collar out of his room. "Bree kept getting up and tried to sneak out of the room.

Ruined my whole night."

I kissed my sleeping daughter on the forehead, pulled up the quilt and drew the curtains.

"Sleep well, love."

Dem and I did not have to tiptoe our of the room. When Bree slept, she slept like a log. When Bree was born, she cried until her father picked her up. She seemed to have hated me and would never calm down in my arms. She only came to me when I fed her. Other than that, she preferred her father.

"She is ambitious," I said to Dem. "She wants the throne."

"Demian wants it too."

I shook my head. "He doesn't. He just wants to annoy his sister," I said. "Do you remember when Demian refused to learn botany, but when he heard that Dion showed great interest in it, he finished the entire book within a night and kept asking Dion questions to spite him?"

"He made Dion cry, didn't he?"

I nodded. "That was years ago. But Demian hasn't changed one bit. Do you think our lazy son will ever want that huge responsibility that comes with being the ruler of a kingdom?"

"If you put it like that, it seems unlikely."

"He might be lazy, you know, but he is a real genius. He just wants different things than other children of his age."

After we went to our bedroom, I fell asleep in Dem's arm. It was still my safe heaven.

But right before I fell asleep, I thought of what happened sixteen years ago. Ava went missing and Evelyn lost all her respect for me. Dem and I fought for days. I wanted to give myself up to Azure, but Dem would not let me. He even threatened to hurt our children. Find more to read at My Virtual Library Empire

After that, I still could not forget, that he locked me up, once again. It happened the day after Evan left. One night I fell asleep and when I woke up, I was somewhere else. Apparently, Dem mixed something with my food, some kind of potion. I had not noticed. Then, he brought me to that mansion where he kept me right after I escaped from Azure.

This time, he took the kids there too.

Dem kept us there for ten days. I could have got us out of there. But honestly, I did not care. I had been too broken hearted about Ava to care about where Dem was keeping us. I let him do whatever he wanted to do. I was not going to leave anyway.

Not when the lives of my children were at risk.

Dion and Demian probably did not remember any of that. After all, they were too little. It was better if they did not remember.
