Chapter 605 A Secret Ability
(From Demian's Perspective)
I remembered. Mum thought I did not, but I did. I was not even one when Father locked Mum and us up in a mansion, far away from the palace. He kept us there for a few days. Father never physically harm Mum, but he was forceful. He had been that way as long as I could remember.
He wanted things to go his way. If he could, he would probably tie her to a bed and never let her go out of their bedroom.
He was a disgusting man. But I was like him too. And I hated myself for inheriting those qualities of his. Even if I tried, I could not change myself.
I was not certain if I wanted to change myself, or if I even was trying hard for that.
I wrote the report Mum told me to make and went to my parents' bedroom to leave it there. Father had gone out.
Mum was sleeping. She would wake up in an hour.
I looked around the room. I had slept here for a year when I was a child. There used to be another room adjacent to this room. After Bree was old enough to sleep alone, Father destroyed that room and made their bedroom bigger. My crib used to be beside the bed. Beside that was Dion's cot.
Back then, Mum feared Azure would take me or hurt Dion, so she never let us out of her sight.
Then, she feared that our own father would hurt us. Seriously, that woman never got to rest, did she?
I pitied Mum. How could she even live with someone like Father? Why did she even love him? She was more powerful than him. She could leave him if she wanted to. But she never did.
I sometimes wondered if things would have been different if Father never met Mum. Then again, I always thought something happened back then too. If not, then how could Father suddenly meet Mum and bring her here? It did not make sense.
Mum and Father never told us what happened back then. Perhaps Dion knew from King Ford, but he never told me that. I did not even have the mind reading ability that Father had. None of us had. When Dion and I did not have that ability, I thought that Bree would suddenly have that. But she did not have it either.
Father found it amusing somehow.
I took a look around the room. And as I looked, I saw things happening. I saw Mum killing Father, but that was not really Father. A dark mage with Father's face and body. Then, Father was at the door, looking as bewildered as I felt. I had never seen it happen before.
Then, I saw Mum rocking a baby in her arms. That was definitely me. Dion was in Father's arms, sleeping peacefully with his thumb in his mouth. If I had to say the name of a child Father might like a bit, it would be Dion. The reason for that was clear too. Among the three of us, Dion was the most like Mum.@@novelbin@@
I saw many more things. Things that I wished I had not seen. I found out things about my parents that I had not known. Things about their past that they never told us.
"Demian?"
I started hearing Mum's voice.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"You never told us you lost a child," I said.
"What?"
"You never said it before."
"I was what…? Pregnant for a month or something? It wasn't important," she said, sitting up. She rubbed her eyes.
"It was. At least, to you, it was. You were depressed, Mum. And you never told us any of that. Not even me."
"Demian, please… How do you know that anyway? Your father couldn't have told you that," she said.
"It doesn't matter how I know."
Mum stared at me for a moment. I could not see anything of the past anymore. I had to concentrate hard for that.
She got down the bed and went to the bathroom. I heard the splashing of water. She came out a few minutes later, her face damp.
"You know, Demian, if you want to hide something, you need to do it properly."
"What?"
"We told you and Dion about the ability of your father. That he can read minds and control blood. The first one is supposed to be a secret. But we still told you that. Because we are family. However, there are secrets among a family too.
There might be things that we didn't tell you and that's because we are allowed to keep something a secret if we want to. Things happened in the past, Demian that I don't find important enough to tell you. You don't need to know many things. You don't need to know that I was almost raped."
I widened my eyes. I had not known it.
"See? Now you know that I was nearly raped. Just like that, you told me that you know things about my and your father's past which allows me to know the fact that you do know such things. If you don't want to tell us about that ability of yours, then the fact that you know such things should be kept a secret as well.
You know very well that if I keep looking for it, I will find out how you know," she said. "It's fine if you tell me such things. But then one day, you will go around telling other people these things and it will be a problem. Do you understand what I'm saying, Demian?"
I nodded. "Yes, Mum."
"Alright," she said and smiled. "And yes, Demian, I did lose a child."
She took my hand and led me to the bed. I saw down and she sat beside me. She kept my hand in hers.

"Your father did not want a child. But that's not the reason I had the miscarriage. Your father had a cousin. His name was Isaac. Isaac and Ezekiel plotted together to kill my unborn child. Ezekiel was my first guard.
I was young back then and quite trusting. They kidnapped me and forced me to drink something. It caused the miscarriage."
"Why?" I asked.
"Well, Isaac did not want your father to have a successor. He thought if he killed the unborn child, then killed me, he could break your father. In fact, he might even be able to kill your father. But well, that would have never happened, but Isaac was always a little dumb. And Ezekiel… He had feelings for me. I don't know how or when it happened.
He even tried to… He tried to kiss me or maybe even kissed me when I was unconscious. If your father hadn't come in time, he might have done something more. Back then, my power wasn't awakened, so I had a hard time protecting myself," she said. "Now, there you have it. The thing that you wanted to know."
I kept silent. I knew Mum was watching me. She was not angry. Just mildly amused. Mum never told us about her family back in the other world. She simply said what kind of things they had in that world.
Cars, phones, planes, motorbikes. But not much about her family. She said her family was not a good one, but that was it. She said she had a nice brother named Max, short for Maxen.
I could not find out about it on my own. If Mum did not tell me, I had no way of knowing. After all, I could not go to that world. Mum destroyed all the passage ways between the two worlds.
Unless there was another door left. A hidden one.
What do you think?
