Chapter 27 27: Who is the composer?
After admiring the red diamond which was about the size of her head two times, Alix left the bathroom with a smile. She would make millions from that diamond, she would not be broke anymore, hooray.
With a satisfied expression on her face, she passed by Jin Kang's office, waved at her and then entered the small classroom which had only five students, three girls and two boys. All of them were of university going age, and all of them had failed to get into prestigious music schools so they opted for her small one.
"Hello teacher Alix." They greeted.
"Hello, everyone." She replied.
There was one piano in the class room, it was used by all the students at different times to practice. Scarlet had never touched it with both hands before, today however, her hands trailed over it and she sat down on the bench behind it.
Facing the confused students, she asked, "How many of you plan to sign up for the winter harmony classic competition?"
It was no surprise to her when none of them raised their hands. They were not confident, and the winter harmony classic competition was for violin and cello players only. It was very competitive, and it was televised.
"Don't be shy, if any of you here plays the violin or the cello, I am willing to train and pay the sign up fee for you.
One of your fellow classmates has already signed up. If any of you has the same desire, approach teacher Jin Kang, she will sign you up.
Once you do, I will be teaching you one on one, it will be intense music lessons that will take up a lot of time so you must prepare mentally.
I will work around your schedules of course, do not worry about falling behind.
Alright, that aside, I am going to play something and we are going to discuss it in depth afterward."
That hypnotizing tune which she used on the frog was already imprinted in her mind.
Alix, was not nervous about forgetting it at any moment. What she was more nervous about was playing the piano in the real world, for the first time in over a decade.
Did she have her old skills? Would her fingers allow her to complete playing? Would they give up half-way and break her heart?
The blue elf, chilling on her virtual screen laughed and said to her, "You worry about the most senseless things. Even if your bony fingers cannot make it to the end, they soon will."
The blue smurf was annoying, she thought, but it was right. She was still recovering and even if she could not make it today, soon, she would.
Alix's fingers hovered above the black and white keys, hesitantly in the beginning. Anticipation, coiled within her stomach, could she do it?
She laughed dryly under her breath, as her mind drew back to her first piano lesson as a child with her mother. Back then, she was just as nervous as she was now.
Gently, her fingers pressed down-a single note, pure and low like the whisper of a child. Then, another note followed, and another.
She closed her eyes and pictured herself back in the swamp, on the back of the ostrich. She clouded herself in the feeling of freedom, warm sunshine and dancing blades of grass, accompanied by ripples of water.
Minor chords blended effortlessly with major ones, creating a hypnotizing harmony that sunk deeper into the listener's consciousness, tugging at their hearts in different ways, creating a longing within.
Outside of the classroom, Jin Kang who had simply been passing by to check on the progress of the class suddenly couldn't move. She found herself trapped where she was, and longing to stay there.
Too afraid she was to move, for the thought that one small distraction might bring this beautiful magical moment to an end.
Alix was playing the piano again!!! Not just playing but bewitching those who were listening with her playing. This was it, her old friend who treated the piano as an extension of her very being was back, Jin Kang thought.
But how? When did her fingers regain their movement?
Jin Kang was not alone in her wonder, the notes had made their way to the room next door and the one that followed. Teachers and students alike had come out to peep and assure themselves that this kind of playing was being done from inside their school.
Had an expert been invited?
Was there a new gifted student?
They piled into the doorway and crowded around the one window the small classroom had.
Jin Kang found herself being pushed into the room more and more as everyone struggled for a chance to get a look at the skillful player.
The pushing led to noise and the noise became a distraction, which broke through the dream like environment which Alix had created.
She opened her eyes, and suddenly stopped playing.
She turned an unpleasant glare on the onlookers, "What is going on? Don't you have classes?"
A few feet shuffled around, but no one seemed to move.
Again, Alix asked, "Seriously, don't you all have classes?"
"Teacher, that was so beautiful." a young girl, one the youngest here shouted from the window.
"Yes, teacher, you hid your talent from us." another said.
"Teacher, I have to join your class from now one."
"Teacher how long should I study the piano before learning to play like that?"
The questions being shouted were very unorderly and very loud.
"I teach a special class, I don't allow lazy students. All of you will not be allowed into my class if you dodge other lessons." Alix responded.
The room was small enough, if they all wanted to learn from her, where would she fit them?
"Alright, back to class, all of you." Jin Kang shooed them away as if she was chasing away cats or dogs.
While others left, she stayed behind and dragged Alix out of the classroom, taking her to her office.
"Explain, your fingers." Jing Kang said in astonishment.
Alix looked at the them, flexed them a bit and smiled. "I found the right doctor with some luck."
She did feel some pain now from playing the piano but it would be gone soon, she knew.
"What about the music you played? Who composed it?" Jin Kang needed to find it and listen to it again. It was just to enchanting to forget.
Alix coquettishly smiled and smiled, "Aaah, that one, I composed it myself." she said slowly.
On the virtual screen, the blue elf shook it's head and laughed contemptuously.
What do you think?
