Chapter 137: 137: Chance Encounter at the Bank

Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Chance Encounter at the Bank

The blue van slowly stopped at the entrance of the alley, and Chen Ke, Lucina, Hall, and Priskin got out of the vehicle.

“Good luck to you all.” The van driver gave a thumbs-up through the window and then hastily drove away.

The four stood at the entrance of the alley looking towards the bank. It was noon, and not many customers were conducting business in the main hall of the bank. The office area at the back was practically empty, with only a few employees working behind the counters.

“Chen Ke, you go in first to check out the situation. Count how many people are inside,” Lucina said.

“No problem, wait for my signal.” Chen Ke made an OK gesture.

“Everything’s in the blue pickup, you remember the last numbers of the license plate, right?” Hall asked Priskin.

“2217,” Priskin nodded.

The four made their preparations, put on leather gloves, adjusted their radios and ear mics, then concealed their masks inside the lining of their jackets; everything was ready for the walk to the bank.

This time, Chen Ke only carried the Holy Relics Diamond and didn’t bring a gun because against the S.W.A.T, handguns were virtually useless.

He and Hall approached the main entrance of the bank, while Lucina and Priskin went directly to the back parking lot to retrieve items. Hall sat on a bench by the road, took out a PSP, and pretended to play, signaling Chen Ke with his eyes to go in.

Chen Ke pushed the door open; a blast of cool air hit him. The bank’s air conditioning was cranked up high. Since it was a day off, only one of the three service windows was open, with four civilians lining up to conduct their business.

Chen Ke counted, there were four people behind the counter, three tellers, and one manager in a suit. He looked towards the back office area and saw a chubby man getting water from the water cooler.

Near the back door, a security guard in a blue hat was patrolling listlessly, no gun holster on his waist, but holding a police baton in his hand.

Chen Ke guessed that this bank’s guards were not armed, after all, if anything went wrong, the S.W.A.T could be there within 5 minutes, a luxury not many small banks had.

Just looking was not enough. Chen Ke silently lined up at the back of the queue, and his eyes began to emit a blue glow.

Within a 100-meter radius, all active humanoid life forms were outlined in blue, the range large enough to cover the entire bank and even some of the nearby shops.

Suddenly, Chen Ke was surrounded by blue humanoid shapes moving about.

He could only rely on himself to distinguish them, seeing two figures at the parking lot, guessing it was Lucina and Priskin. Near the back door, one security guard was smoking.

In the bank’s restroom, there was one on the toilet, and behind a nearby wall, a figure was looking at something, probably monitoring the security cameras.

The blue glow in his pupils faded, Chen Ke moved to the side of the wall, picked up a finance and insurance magazine from the rack to cover half of his face and whispered into the ear mic, “Three guards, four civilians, five employees. Plus one in the restroom, unknown identity; the guards are unarmed.”

“Thirteen people, not many pedestrians outside either, we can make it quick and clean,” Hall replied.

“There must be alarm buttons inside the counters, how are we going to deal with them?” Lucina’s voice came through the earpiece.

It was impossible to circle around from the outside, the doors to the counters were at the back. If anyone made an unusual move, the four employees inside would have enough time to sound the alarm.

“I can handle it,” Chen Ke said, his killer instinct was enough to frighten ordinary people, giving him enough time to rush in and control the situation.

“The main hall is yours and Hall’s responsibility, we’re about to start the action,” Priskin said.

Chen Ke saw two humanoid outlines standing near the back door, looking like they were ready to come in.

Just as the four were about to make their move, Hall’s voice came through the earpiece, “A female civilian just entered the bank.”

“Let her come in, adding one more person won’t matter,” Chen Ke said coldly.

“Waiting for your signal, Chen Ke; I’ve already opened the back door. The surveillance room is just diagonally across,” Lucina said.

Chen Ke closed the magazine, looked at the four employees behind the counter, and felt his killing intent rising up. He was about to unleash it when suddenly a hand patted his shoulder, startling him.

“Lin Ke? Is it really you?!” A familiar female voice rang in his ear.

Chen Ke turned in surprise and saw a purple-haired girl slightly shorter than him standing next to him, her face full of shock.

Sleery?!

Fuck, Sleery?

“You…” Chen Ke’s mind suddenly went blank, unable to utter another word.

“I thought I’d never see you again!” Sleery was also a bit agitated, grabbing Chen Ke’s arm with her right hand and shaking it back and forth.

“Chen… what happened? I heard a woman talking to you.” Lucina’s voice sounded somewhat displeased.

In Sleery’s eyes, he was an investigator, and moreover, he had been captured by the contract demon in the lobby of the West Gold Building and dragged into a beam of light…

This was definitely something that couldn’t be let known to the mail carriers.

“What… are you doing here?” Chen Ke countered and pondered how to get her to leave.

“What else would I be doing at a bank? Tell me, how did you escape from…” Sleery started to say, but was abruptly interrupted by Chen Ke.

“It’s a crazy world, you know, so nothing that happens is strange. How’s the wound on your waist?” Chen Ke changed the subject.

“Who would have thought you’d care so much about me? The wound hasn’t fully healed yet, but it doesn’t affect daily life. The only pity is that it will leave an ugly scar, so I won’t be able to wear my favorite belly shirts anymore.” Sleery blinked her eyes and gave a secretive smile.

“Sounds like a slut,” Lucina’s voice came through the earpiece.

“Uh… um… How long will you be staying?” Chen Ke ignored Lucina’s comment and suddenly asked.

“I’m just here to sign a fund contract, I’ll be leaving right away, but since I’ve bumped into you, I think we could have lunch together conveniently?” Sleery tilted her head and smiled.

“I’m afraid I’m busy,” Hall commented.

“I’m afraid I’m busy,” Chen Ke echoed.

“Miss Sleery, you are Miss Sleery, right? I’m Burick who called you!” The manager came out from behind the office area and greeted Sleery.

Sleery nodded towards the manager and turned back to Chen Ke, “Just wait for me for a moment, I have to go in and sign a contract. You have to wait for me.”

Chen Ke nodded helplessly, watching her follow the manager into his office.

“Chen Ke, we’re going in now!” Lucina said.

“Wait! Wait! Let’s talk after she leaves!” Chen Ke hastily said, turning back to pick up the finance magazine and sit on a nearby bench.

“It’s almost 12 o’clock, we don’t have much time left!” Lucina said angrily.

“Just wait a bit longer Lucina… Don’t rush…” Chen Ke was sweating profusely.

“Alright, Chen Ke, I’ll help you out then, who’s that woman?” Hall asked.

“Someone I met at a nightclub, we’re not particularly close, it was just a one-time encounter.” Chen Ke bluffed.

“I guess there’s more to your relationship,” Hall commented.

“You’re overthinking it, really overthinking it,” Chen Ke shook his head.

“I’m holding back Lucina for you, but don’t forget this favor,” Priskin said.

Chen Ke activated his Spiritual Vision, looking towards the back door. A woman’s silhouette was pacing back and forth, while a man’s silhouette stood in front of the door.

Chen Ke didn’t simply let Sleery go because of their one-time encounter, but because Sleery had seen his face.

Dressed in a gray suit, even with a mask on, Sleery would be able to recognize him right away.

Mail carriers don’t kill civilians, and Chen Ke didn’t want to kill people without reason or grievance. To keep from exposing the operation, he could only wait until Sleery had left.

“Chen Ke, another female civilian is about to go in,” Hall said.

“I bet it’s another one he knows,” Lucina taunted.

Chen Ke looked up nervously at the entrance and saw a woman with long chestnut hair pushing the door open, dressed in a brown leather jacket and black jeans, emanating an efficient vibe.

The woman glanced at the bank counter, where a guy seemed to be arguing with the clerk. She shook her head helplessly, then turned to the rows of seats on the other side and spotted Chen Ke with the finance magazine.

Chen Ke locked eyes with her, instantly feeling as if all the hairs on his body stood on end.

“Chen Ke, what a coincidence,” Diana smiled.
