Chapter 138: Chapter 138 Just Waiting for Your Signal

“Ha! Men!” Lucina’s voice came through the headset, sounding a bit annoyed.

Chen Ke slowly put down the magazine, only to greet Diana, whom he had never expected to encounter at the bank—a fellow sword-friend from Golden Arthur.

Diana glanced at the dispute in front of the counter where a Black man was arguing with the white girl inside about something related to social security funds, discernible through his hip-hop accent.

She sat down next to Chen Ke and struck up a conversation, “Didn’t see you at Golden Arthur yesterday?”

“I haven’t been going much lately,” Chen Ke replied, his mind racing with ways to convince Diana to leave.

“Are you free tonight?” Diana leaned back in her chair and asked with a smile.

“I’ll come with you—I want to meet that bitch,” Lucina said fiercely.

“No, no… not tonight…” Chen Ke shook his head.

Diana sized Chen Ke up and down as if she noticed something peculiar about him.

Suddenly, she grabbed Chen Ke’s wrist, lifted his hand, and asked, “Why are you wearing leather gloves? And that headset around your neck. You’re not planning to rob the bank, are you?”

The companions in the headset suddenly fell silent.

Chen Ke pulled his hand back and squinted at Diana, his expression rather ambiguous. After a few seconds of silence, Diana suddenly burst into laughter.

“I was just kidding, and you took it seriously?” she laughed.

At that moment, the door to the manager’s office opened, and Sleery walked out with the manager. After speaking briefly with the manager, she looked toward Chen Ke seated in the lobby.

“So, let’s leave it at that for today,” Sleery nodded to the manager and walked straight towards Chen Ke.

Seeing Sleery approaching, Chen Ke suddenly felt an immense headache coming on. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, contemplating his next move.

To the postmen, Sleery, and Diana, Chen Ke held entirely different identities, unable to fabricate a lie that could fool all three parties simultaneously.

Especially Sleery, who knew too many of his secrets, and even called him differently than others; more importantly, Sleery was an investigator, and in her eyes, so was Chen Ke.

He definitely couldn’t let anyone find out about his past activities in the West Gold Building, let alone the incident involving the contract demon and the light rift.

As soon as Sleery spoke, Chen Ke would be exposed; he had to keep her under control.

“Who is this?” Sleery stood in front of Chen Ke, her arms crossed, looking at Diana.

Diana took a moment to size up Sleery, her lips curling slightly.

“A sword-friend from the HEMA fencing studio,” Chen Ke replied.

“Hello, my name is Diana, and you are?” Diana smiled.

“My name is Sleery; I’m his girlfriend,” Sleery responded with a smile.

“Ha! That bitch finally said it!” Lucina said indignantly.

“Oh, I see, you’re here at the bank with your girlfriend today?” Diana looked at Chen Ke.

“Hmm… How long have you known him from the fencing studio?” Sleery asked earnestly.

“Why do you ask that?” Diana said with a laugh.

“It’s important to me,” Sleery stated, placing her hands on her hips.

“You like this type? I thought you preferred someone a bit more powerful,” Diana asked, looking at Chen Ke.

“He would like that,” Lucina chimed in.

“It’s nice to know you guys…” Chen Ke sighed, his mind a complete mess.

“You know nothing about power, Diana. The things he and I have faced together are beyond your imagination, right?” Sleery said, sounding a bit proud as she looked at Chen Ke.

Indeed, her words were not false; investigators of this world had indeed encountered more Transcendents than ordinary people. However, due to the confidentiality agreements signed upon employment, they couldn’t reveal even the slightest detail.

“Oh? Is that so? Sounds like you both are from the Administration Bureau?” Diana laughed.

“Chen Ke, is what she’s saying true?” Lucina asked.

“Chen Ke had thoroughly deceived that girl, how could he possibly be from the Administration Bureau? He doesn’t possess a shred of Spiritual Energy in him,” Hall commented.

“Not necessarily…” Chen Ke said hesitantly, deeply concerned that Sleery might blurt out his name.

“It seems I need to take care of my own matters now. If you are free tonight, I’ll be waiting for you at the Golden Arthur,” Diana said as she stood up.

“Lin…” Sleery was about to speak when Chen Ke suddenly rose, clasped his arms around her waist, and pulled her aside, nodding toward Diana as he did so.

Sleery’s heart raced, her hands naturally resting on Chen Ke’s waist as he led her toward the corner of the room.

Diana waved goodbye to Chen Ke and walked over to the counter.

Chen Ke took Sleery to the corner and, clutching the microphone of his headset, said, “Listen, I will find time to come to you and explain everything, but I have some matters to handle right now. So, I don’t want you to talk about this with anyone else.”

“No problem, Lin Ke, no problem… But I don’t even have your contact information,” Sleery said, looking up at him.

“Here is my number…” Chen Ke gave her his number.

“Then I’ll wait for your call. Just call, and I can handle the rest,” Sleery said with a smile.

“So, have you finished what you needed to do?” Chen Ke asked.

Sleery nodded.

“Good, you can go now,” Chen Ke said as he let go of her.

“Just like that? Aren’t we having lunch together?” Sleery asked.

“There will be other opportunities for dinner in the future…” Chen Ke hinted.

Sleery understood what Chen Ke meant and left satisfied.

Watching Sleery’s departing figure, Chen Ke breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look at Diana, who was almost done at the counter.

Meanwhile, more civilians had entered the bank. Chen Ke activated his Spiritual Vision again and carefully counted—there were 19 people in the bank at the moment.

“Chen Ke, that woman drove off in a pink Porsche,” Hall commented.

He sat outside where he could see Sleery driving away from the bank parking lot.

Chen Ke was startled. An investigator’s salary wasn’t low, but it shouldn’t afford a Porsche. It seemed Sleery came from a very wealthy background and was only working as an investigator for fun.

“When is the other one leaving?” Lucina asked.

“Soon,” Chen Ke assured, seeing Diana packing up her belongings. He moved behind a pillar, pretending to pick up an investment guide from the bookshelf but in reality, to stay out of Diana’s line of sight.

After packing up, Diana looked around, didn’t spot Chen Ke, shrugged, and left the bank.

“The other one has left as well, driving a red muscle car,” Hall mentioned after a while.

“Can we start now?” Lucina asked.

Chen Ke glanced at the clock on the wall; it was half-past eleven.

“Let’s begin. Lucina, take care of the surveillance room. There’s no one there now. Security is focused in the lobby,” Chen Ke instructed, his pupils turning blue.

The bank’s vault was across from the corridor in the employees’ area, a rather narrow space. As Priskin sneaked in, no one noticed him.

Chen Ke also saw through the wall that Lucina had breached the surveillance room, knocking out the security personnel with a karate chop; he instinctively touched the back of his neck.

By then, Hall had also entered through the main door, standing next to the bookshelf and picking up a magazine.

“You know what we are waiting for,” Priskin said as he placed the bag containing the drilling machine near the vault door, its back covered with a babayaga fabric.

Meanwhile, Lucina, hidden in the surveillance room, had Chen Ke’s and Hall’s long guns, holding an MP5.

“Just waiting for your signal,” Hall looked at Chen Ke.

As soon as he gave the signal, Priskin would start installing the drilling machine, and Lucina would rush out to throw the guns to Chen Ke and Hall.

Chen Ke once again surveyed the people in the main hall of the bank; a killing intent emerged from behind him and darted straight to the four employees behind the counter.

“Put on the mask!”
